lightningtiger Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 (edited) I have now crossed the ocean again, this time to the U.S. Of A. ! Being a little bored this morning and on the spur of the moment I decided to make a small hardware store.....but one from the U.S.A. so I may present to you..... Okay, so what do we have, tools on display (minus drills and oil cans....used them else where....I wonder the BOC where ! )and toilet seats plus taps on the wall. Behind the metal trim look counter is drawers which would contain loose hardware, plumbing, electrical, etc., like it was in the old days. One of the reasons why I choose to design this was the number of people who prefer the more natural looking Lego structures - very few stickers - this only has one. I selected the colours to match the brand, but the design is similar to the TRU shop but I feel way cooler thanks to the sign....now that's what I call SNOT building ! Comments welcome....oh, yeah might be posting this on Cuusoo too....might have better luck with something American than U.K. or Aussie. Edited May 31, 2012 by lightningtiger Quote
LegoJalex Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Very nice! I like the simplicity in it and that it reminds me of classic town sets. Good use of colours too. Quote

Thanks 'LegoJalex' for your kind words, that was my goal to make something modern but with that classic town feel. I have posted it on Cuusoo, I'll link it when Lego Cuusoo gives the okay to the design for it to be listed. Quote
gotoAndLego Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 That's a good solution for holding tools, for when you run out of clip plates. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Nice hardware store The sign holder is very creative Excellent work on the interior details as well, especially the shelves behind the checkout. Quote
lightningtiger Posted May 31, 2012 Author Posted May 31, 2012 Thanks 'gotoAndLego' and 'soccerkid6' for your kind words, it's not the first time I have built a hardware store or used those little design tricks of mine but I thought it would be nice to Americanise something ! Still waiting on the Cuusoo review to give the thumbs up on posting it on Cuusoo. Keep watching, keep waiting ! Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 Surprise ! Bet you didn't see this coming did you ! I think New Mannum could do with a sister town maybe eh ? When I have more detailing done to my surprise plus a typical van for it....plus some workers who should go postal about it, I will open a topic of it's own ! Though if I get enough buildings, I'll stick them in one mega topic....we'll see. The building count is only two right now. Comments and suggestions always welcome.....especially American ones....more rural/country town ones thanks ! (I needed a break from BOC project for a few days) Quote
gotoAndLego Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I think your math is off for the post office: Number of Customer / 8 = Number of postal workers. :D Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 I think your math is off for the post office: Number of Customer / 8 = Number of postal workers. :D Oh, yeah the worker is on his or her lunch break ! I'm planning a custom figure to serve those 8 customers....must be a good half hour wait.....hey we have the same with Australia Post ! Oh, yeah...post van too is being planned but no rifles ! Quote
gotoAndLego Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Oh, yeah the worker is on his or her lunch break ! That sounds about right. You should seriously cram as many customers in there as will fit and have just one employee fig. LOL Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 That sounds about right. You should seriously cram as many customers in there as will fit and have just one employee fig. LOL Yeah, I might do that with a custom Dog The Bounty Hunter chasing someone in there too ! Quote
LegoJalex Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Cool! It really did surprise me! ;) I like the new one also, but I think I kind of like them seperated. Will you post an interior view of the Post Office? Quote

Will you post an interior view of the Post Office? Thanks for the positive feedback there 'LegoJalex', they can be seperated...but I could make them part of a modern-ish shopping strip along a road in a rural town. I'll looking into modern gas stations to sit near this....I'm think Gulf...suggestions ? The sign on the post office only took 20 minutes to make the fastest one ever, that's finding images, copy & paste, resize and colour correction, printing and final applying to the model. Edit - Cuusoo link - if you like it support it. Edited June 1, 2012 by lightningtiger Quote
Hoexbroe Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) Nice little store. Somewhat different to the fantastic Gas & Gear stoer you are also building... Edited June 2, 2012 by Hoexbroe Quote
vriverajr3 Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 i like both shops. really digging the post office sign. both would look good in a town Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 2, 2012 Author Posted June 2, 2012 Thanks for the comments 'vriverajr3' and 'Hoexbroe', on a whim I decided to build the True Value just a boredom breaker, but then I thought why not an American rural town to a be sister-town to my Aussie country town. So yes, there is more to come for sure......working on a mail box, slightly oversized but I should be able to make it work for real...all the flaps and doors open that is. Now any suggestions especially those living in the U.S.A. will be taken on board and considered. I'll decide later down the track if I'll tile the floors and pavement just like New Mannum (though I have stolen stacks of tiles to into the BOC which needed a few hundred 2x2's ). Keep watching over the next few days. Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 Fresh shots.... I still must sticker the mail box and it does work.....you get the mail out through the back though. Above is a tease shot of a unstickered gas pump.....for those members in the U.S.A. care to guess for which brand of gas station....clue is they are also a supermarket chain in the states ? More to come (though I must finish the BOC this week too).....keep watching ! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 The mail box looks great as does the street lamp I still haven't figured out the brand of the gas station... Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 The mail box looks great as does the street lamp I still haven't figured out the brand of the gas station... Thanks for the comments 'soccerkid6', another clue....they own more than one chain of gas stations but they all share the same multi-coloured logo. Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 (edited) Now what do people think of pavement and tiled floors..... I'm opening a fresh topic for one of my other US creations so keep watching here and there for more U.S. of A. Comments and suggestions still welcome.....in fact suggestions for more 8x16 structures would be very handy thanks. Edit - replaced the photo with one after the stickers were applied to the mail box. lightningtiger Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 Nice and simple MOC. Thanks 'Ferrik', any one with suggestions for my USA rural street scape ? Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 12, 2012 Author Posted June 12, 2012 I want to build a bank, so which one do you folks living state-side recommend ? It will sit next to the post office. Quote
