brciktw Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 (edited) The Old Summer Palace, known in Chinese as Yuan Ming Yuan (the Gardens of Perfect Brightness), and originally called the Imperial Gardens, was a complex of palaces and gardens in Beijing. It is located 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) northwest of the walls of the Imperial City, built in the 18th and early 19th century, where the emperors of the Qing Dynasty resided and handled government affairs (the Forbidden City was used for formal ceremonies). Known for its extensive collection of garden and building architectures and other works of art (a popular name in China was the "Garden of Gardens", simplified Chinese: 万园之园; traditional Chinese: 萬園之園; pinyin: wàn yuán zhī yuán). In 1860 during the Second Opium War, two British envoys, a journalist for The Times and their small escort of British and Indian troopers met with the Royal Prince to negotiate. Instead they were confined and tortured, resulting in twenty deaths.[1][2] The British High Commissioner to China, Lord Elgin, retaliated by ordering the destruction of the palace, which was then carried out by French and British troops. The Old Summer Palace is located in Haidian District just outside the west gate of Tsinghua University, north of Peking University, and east of the Summer Palace. The postal address is: 28 Qinghua West Road, Beijing, 100084. Edited May 29, 2012 by brciktw Quote
freakwave Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 (edited) Definitely nice pictures here and a small history lesson on the Imperial Gardens However a few questions remain: Did you make those bricks? What is the source? That information I feel is missing... fW Edit: I was able to get to your original Flickr page, but that was not straight forward! Provide a Link to your Flickr to share more of your work! Edited May 29, 2012 by freakwave Quote

LuxorV Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 These are custom made bricks; brciktw sells them, as you may notice from the links in his signature. Yeah i dont get it... I cant tell what kind of bricks those are... I do recognize one or two.. On a side note, I'd like you to try better in checking spelling, punctuation and capitalisation when posting. It will make your comments easier to read. Thank you. Quote
