Sebeus I Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 (edited) I've always wanted to make a castle but I never got the chance because most of my parts were in ships already. I can forget about a gray castle, most of my old gray is in my Flying Dutchman and I barely have new gray so I chose Black For the rest I completely relied on the raised baseplate from 6090 Royal Knight's Castle, a set I got for my 7th birthday (you can imagine that's a great memory of mine ) The green raised baseplate already has castle prints which makes my castle look bigger than it is I'm thinking of making a castle based on this one but in its "former" glory (flags, knights and stuff). JackJonespaw Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Amazing! I love these "ruined" castle MOCs, and you pulled this one off quite nicely! The plants on the swamp looks fantastic! Great job! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Well done My only recommendation is to add some flowers or rocks to the green plate in front of the castle, it look a little dull now. But overall a very nice overgrown feel! Quote
gedren_y Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 It reminds me of one of the Scottish islands castles, the ones that were repeatedly distroyed, rebuilt and distroyed again. One from the era of Robert the Bruce and the Scottish War for Independence. Quote
1980-Something-Space-Guy Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I'm thinking of making a castle based on this one but in its "former" glory (flags, knights and stuff). That would make a very interesting contrast! I would like to see that. Great MOC. Ruins have something special that distinguishes them... Thanks for sharing. Quote
Knapen Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Good use of that raised baseplate. It totally has that 'ruin' feeling. Nice job. Quote
jFox Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I think the black works very well in this case. Depending on the location, wealth of the lord, etc many castles were built with a lot of wood. Seeing the black in this case makes me think of a wooden castle that was burned down. All that remains is the charred or ash-covered timbers. Quote
K-Nut Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I love it. The swamp is great and the ruins are superb! Quote
HawkLord Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Very well done. Interesting scene with the explorer having found an ancient ruined castle. I might suggest putting a spare animal or two somewhere around and maybe a skeleton lying amongst the ruins with some weapons or the like. Quote
Sebeus I Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 ... I might suggest putting a spare animal or two somewhere around and maybe a skeleton lying amongst the ruins with some weapons or the like. That would be a very good Idea indeed, I'll make it happen Quote
Vindicare Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 This is brilliant! It's a nice change of pace on here. Not many ruin MOCs. This is cool, my favorite photo is the one with the fig exploring the land. I'd like to see your before MOC as well, I see potential. Quote
Bilbo Baggins Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Awesome Wheres the raised baseplate from? Quote
LauraC Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Looks very atmospheric, wouldn't mind a wander around that castle myself Love all the greenery and plant life creeping over the ruins! Quote
Palathadric Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I like this MOC a lot. I love the overgrown castle look, but perhaps I just love all the green pieces in MOCs. I think the tower could have had a bit more plant life on it, but still Quote
KotZ Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 This is cool! I love all the green and black. It is rare to see ruin mocs, and this is a reason why there should be more. Quote
smitty9999 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Great job. I can't recall this baseplate being used often for MOCS Quote
