Mahri Nui, aka the Lost Land, is the former site of a Matoran village, which sank into the sea centuries ago (though is still connected to the main island). The Matoran living there survived, having domesticated some herd Rahi called Hydruka that harvest air bubbles for breathing. However, the land sank dangerously close to the Pit, where the Order of Mata Nui condemns the world's most vile beings, including the Barraki. The Toa are the Toa Mahri. Some confusion has surfaced, even though Mahri Nui hasn't, if the Toa Mahri are the Toa Inika or Toa Jovan's. The Kanohi Ignika will later fall into the water, down into The Land of the Lost. Dekar caught it only to have it stolen by the Barraki! More details are yet unknown.

And Toa Jovan is from a flashback.He has died long before the Inika came into existance.

I know that jovan has been dead but it says "Jovan's". I believe they are refering to his toa.

As unreliable as Wikipedia is that's all info confirmed by GregF. Best bet is that the Mahri are a transformation of the Inika but it's not for sure, it's just known that there will be heroes called Toa Mahri. Jovan's team is thousands of years in the past.
