SheepEater Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 What are your favorite MOCs that best combine the Technic and Town/City themes? They are far less common than pure technic or pure town. They tend do be either of these two: - Large minifig scaled technic creations (I've seen quite a few crawler cranes like this over the years - the 8288 could also be considered minifig scale) - Incorporation of mechanics in town/train layouts and buildings. DLuders Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 (edited) I like Sariel's Monorail Mk5: Intercity MOC. Some of the 100 different minifigures on the loading platform are SCARY-looking dudes! Edited May 20, 2012 by DLuders Quote

dr_spock Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I so happen to enjoy Town and Technics. I got into Technics after my dark ages and started some combining of the two here and there. 8288 crawler crane was quite easy to MOD into my town. Picture 4437 by dr_spock_888, on Flickr I MOD the 8259 bulldozer into a drilling rig. Picture 4756 by dr_spock_888, on Flickr Sometimes I make use of Technic parts in my creations. dr_spock Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 8288 is probably the easiest set to cross over and looks good in the city. Quite easy to make your own minifig size cab for it too. Quote
Konajra Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 A bucyrus mining shovel: bucyrus 495HF syncrude-29 by Konajra, on Flickr A P&H mining shovel: P&H 4100xpc__1 by Konajra, on Flickr A liebherr mining shovel: Liebherr 996_2 by Konajra, on Flickr A komatsu dozer: komatsu D575a_1 by Konajra, on Flickr A Sandvik Mobile crusher: Sandvik PF 300 mobile Crusher by Konajra, on Flickr and at last a Sandvik beltbridge: Sandvik beltbridge by Konajra, on Flickr All models are minifig scale (for which I take 1:40) and are fully operational via Power function and/or pneumatics. Both Sandvik models are without PF because they are displayed in the headoffice of Sandvik in Leoben,Austria. But they can be easily motorized with PF. I have tested that before the were shipped to Austria. Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I think that Mahjqa makes the best smal minifig scale thechnic models Quote
gratefulnat Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Hi Konajra, Drinking my morning coffee and I stumble onto your pictures and was just speechless. Looking at your pictures gave me a jolt caffeine never will Absolutely amazing MOC's! This is more than worthy of front page news! Thanks! Quote
le60head Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 How about a minifig scale Remote Controlled bus ? Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Konajra, those are wonderful MOCs, but I have to say that machines like this are almost more terrifying than a MOC battle tank would be, the huge scale and destructive power they have and the noise they make is mind blowing and very scary for those coming up close to them. I don't think I could work in an open cast mine around such monsters. I have only ever come upon one such machine totally by accident and it scared me half to death with its awesomeness, it was hard to think that something such as that could have actually been hidden. Still they are excellent recreations of the originals and so detailed. I would not like to be a mini-fig who accidentally gets in the way of one of those buckets or those crawler treads though!! It is good to know though that some of them are on display in the company offices, did they ask you to make them or do you work around / with such machines as these? For myself I think, I have not used lots of technic parts, the only instances are in gearing for trains (Similar to on the EN.) that I have made. But then the gearing is hidden away. I would like to incorporate more, but as a child I did not have any technic stuff, just system so I don't have the knowledge of it in my bones so as to say and am finding it quite a challenge to get to grips with in old age. Konajra Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 thanks for the compliments. I don't work with such machines. I'm a bicycle mechanic. I just find those huge machine very intresting. Only the two Sandvik models are displayed. The rest has been broken down because I needed the bricks to build some new mocs. Right now I'm into ships. check my flickr page to see more. I build the Sandvik mobile crusher at first just for myself, but it turned out bigger then I thought it would. Then when Sandvik asked me if I wanted to build a second one for them, I decide to just sell my own. They did however wanted the beltbridge to go along with the crusher. So that one was build on request of Sandvik. glad you like them. Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 (edited) What Mahjqa is for small models is Konajra whit his big models. I loved them all and mine tugboat studless is inspired by Konajra's studded version Edited May 20, 2012 by VFracingteam Quote
CP5670 Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I made this a while ago, although it's more of a space model: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=44171&st=0&p=774822&fromsearch=1entry774822 Those mining excavators are fantastic. They have excellent detail especially given their sizes. Quote
