WesternOutlaw Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Jacob: your MOC is absolutely outstanding! I commented about the ship a few weeks ago, but next to the fortress, it looks super. What I like most about the entire display is the size/scale. To tell you the truth, it looks almost like a Playmobil castle with the red roofs. Some of the details that I love include: - the crossed windows/slits for crossbows. - the red roofs and the red and yellow flags. Great color combination. - the bridge with gate over the moat. - how you built up the side of the mountain in tan and dark grey BURPs/pieces and the foliage. The use of the palm and the other greenery really brings a lot of detail to the scene. - the side drawbridge. Overall, this is one of the best castle MOCs that I've seen; and as I've already mentioned, having the Medieval ship next to it adds that much more detail. Absolutely outstanding! Quote
Sting Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 I love the Desert Look of it! the palm trees, the tan baseplates - incredible! I love the ship, but since this is about the castle I will refrain from commenting on the ship. My favourite part is the little stream at the side full of plant life beside it. I love the details. The entire MOC has a perfect feel as TheBrickster said, with the height and width being perfect, making it not look to tall and thin (which would make it look like a tower) but not too wide and short (which would makesit look more like a walled town). This makes me jealous. Amazing job! Quote
Brick Miner Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 really cool jacob... man you have a lot of pieces !!! so how long do you keep these MOCs together (i would never want to destroy that, if it were mine)... and do you wreck one MOC to build another ??? or do you have enough pieces to keep them all built at once ??? your creations would make one helluva display if they could all be placed together 8- Quote

gylman Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 wow wow wow! On the one hand, very simple lines, very clean, uncluttered. Colours are very carefully chosen and used. Nothing is random. On the other hand, beautiful little details. And the inside details! So nice. I could look at these pictures all day. It's because of castles like this that I never try to build big castles. In my wildest dreams, with all the time and pieces available as needed, I could not match this. Thanks. Quote

What i like most is the details you put in the walls, some very nice ideas i see there... Makes me cry when looking at my own custom castle :-P I hope someday i will be able to make a castle just as beatifull as yours! Quote

They do go together very well. o how long do you keep these MOCs together (i would never want to destroy that, if it were mine)... and do you wreck one MOC to build another ??? or do you have enough pieces to keep them all built at once ??? I usually keep the mocs up for a few weeks at the most. To build new mocs, I have to take the older ones apart. My piece collection is big but not infinte. Thankfully, that's where the digital camera comes in! I keep back up pictures for all the mocs I build, just in case some disaster were to happen (Brickshelf closes down, nuclear war, etc.) How do you start building such a castle? Do you make some drawings/plans first?How much time did it take from design till result? I usually start out with just a picture in my head of what I want it to look like. Sometimes I'll make very brief drawings but nothing detailed. This castle took about 4 months from start to finish. During that time I also built the ship. My building times are very eratic. Sometimes I'll build for 3 hours straight, other times I might not build for an entire week. In my wildest dreams, with all the time and pieces available as needed, I could not match this.I bet you could.It just takes practice and becoming familiar with all the different pieces.
