Right now, I think my Uruk army is somewhere in the teens. I plan on making a few mods/additions to my current Helm's Deep, which pretty much means I need to buy 8 more Uruk-hai Army sets. Three more for the Deeping Wall, four for the inner circle wall, and one for the outer circle wall. Then my Uruk army will be around 35-40, and my Rohan army will be a good size too. I'll take some pictures of what I have so far and post them in a new thread. The only thing is that I need to pour another $320 into it before it's done.

WOW. That's a lot of Uruks! I currently have an absolutely MASSIVE army at the enormous number of four. Pretty awesome, huh?

When these sets were first announced, I didn't really care. I was more angry that they weren't making any more Potter sets. Back in February when I saw the pictures, I thought the sets, especially the minifigs, looked really cool. At the start of last month, I decided to read The Hobbit, then Lord of the Rings. I loved the books so much that I went out and got the DVD boxset and I finished watching it today. And just like I loved the books, I loved the movies as well. If it wasn't for LEGO, I doubt I'd have every discovered how awesome Lord of the Rings is!

Anyway, back to the LEGO, they've done a fab job with the sets. I'm tempted to get Shelob Attacks, Weathertop, Mines & Gandalf Arrives just to get the fellowship in LEGO form!

Next wave, I really hope we get a Shire Set. Something as big as the Harry Potter Diagon Alley set. That'd be cool.

Probably in the first Hobbit wave though I doubt it would be as big as Diagon Alley.

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of making my own Rohan soldiers and was looking for some feedback. I read about some thoughts on them earlier in this thread but did not see any pictures or solution on which torso would work the best. Here are my two attempts using the Series 3 Elf legs and torso.

Thank you and feedback is appreciated!

The S3 Elf parts are absolutely perfect. I'd do the same thing if I had more than my one precious Elf. The short bow would probably be best for them, as opposed to the elf's longbow, but that's just picking knits. Thanks for the pics.

Found Helm's Deep, Weathertop & Uruk Hai Army on Saturday at the Myer 3for2 sale... bought & built them straight away. Great sets. Disappointed there weren't any sets with orcs in them, but at least I have an army of uruk hai and a couple of nazgul. New horses are awesome, shame the old helmets don't fit, but the barding is fine as long as the legs are in the normal position.

I hadn't even considered those torsos, but those work well!

I heard someone say the Kingdoms Dragon Knights torsos (without the dragon crest). I converted some to the licensed skin tone and they actually look really good. The only concern is they have black pants and the Rohan soldiers have dark brown pants, so I would have to buy a lot of them to make up for it. But definitely a good option.

Those work quite well, although I'm not so sure about the use of those torsos in large quantities.

Rohan soldiers wore many different things, ranging mostly from chainmail armor to leather armor. I've used several things for my own Rohirrim as well,

and I decided to start painting the helmets and some of the shields. Here's an example of one of my Rohirrim soldiers:

more LOTR pics in my photostream on Flickr)

I have used the elf figure's legs on a different torso. (Much like the torso as shown above)

This still makes me wonder if TLG is going to release different variations of the Rohan soldier, though.

I just found LOTR at my local Wal-Mart (southeastern Nebraska, USA). They were on an endcap by the Barbie dolls, so nowhere near the Lego aisle. Keep your eyes peeled, they may be there but hidden for some reason. Very puzzling. Maybe people who buy Bratz dolls will buy LOTR Lego??? They had the all of the sets other than 9474 Battle for Helm's Deep. My wife put all of them in the cart and walked off...silly woman

That helmet looks awesome! The shield looks like a spitting image of the horse head. I wish I had that steady of a hand to do something like that.

LOTR Lego is at all our Walmarts here in Canada (with the exception of helm's deep). There's a lot of stock, I hope there will be enough left over in six months when they go clearance as some of the sets are just way to expensive.

I heard we are not getting any of these in the uk untill August. I was really hoping it would be june 1st. Can anyone confirm the release date?

Has anyone done any alterantive builds with the Uruk ballista? I want to buy a few Uruk hai armies but I only want 1 or 2 ballistae so I was wondering if I could turn them into something else.

You could create a battering ram with wheels using the base of the ballista.

They're out in Meijer as well. They were putting new sets when I went to check for clearance sale and to get cat food. The price for 9472 is still insanely high at $65 :sceptic: (compare to Toys R Us' $80 but still a lot more than optimal $0.10 per piece target)

I still have not seen 9476 anywhere yet and I've been in 4 different Target stores. Either they are slow to put out the new sets or they are selling out real fast.

Does anyone have any idea or viable information on how long the LOTR theme is going to last? Hopefully it will long surpass the release dates of the two new hobbit movies and be just like Star Wars.

I believe we have at least 2 years with this theme. We have one wave coming out for The Hobbit part 1, their will probably be another LOTR wave in summer 2013 and then a wave for The Hobbit part 2.

Not all Walmarts. Mine still lacks any of the summer sets...
