I have a project for my Anthropology class about eating behaviors. If you can take a minute or two and help me out. If you answer other please describe what the other is in a sentence or two.

Extra questions that will also help are

What vegetables would you eat/not eat?

How would you feel or react to someone sitting next to you eating something you would not?

Do you have any examples or horror stories about certain foods you would not eat (again)?

Thanks in advance,

-Dan

Well, being a vegetarian, I don't eat any meat at all. I do eat just about every kind of vegetable though.

And I don't really mind people next to me eating things I would not. After all, just about everyone eats meat.

As for your third extra question: I went to this Japanese restaurant on a trip with school and they served shrimps. I tried one which almost caused me to puke. I've basically stopped eating anything that comes from the sea since that day.

In terms of what animals ARE edible and what parts of animals ARE edible, I'm lead to believe from someone who's knowledge I trust that for humans, every part of every animal IS edible, apart from a Polar Bear's liver. The reason for this is fatally high levels of Potassium contained therein.

That does say what parts I WOULD eat, though!

#1- I'll eat any of the options listed.

#2- Liver is probably the furthest I'd go with entrails.

#3- If prefered options weren't available I'd consider just about anything providing I knew it wouldn't harm me in any way.

Extras:

- Veggies are good, not a big fan of bressle sprouts though. :-/

- Might be a little annoyed if it smelled awful but otherwise, It's their stomach.

- Not that I recall, had a bad experience with liver once but tried it again.

Hope that helps. :-)

I voted other for poll 1, since I like 'em all.

I voted no entrails on poll 2.

I voted that I wouldn't eat meat outside my normal types in poll 3. I'd rather go veggie.

Extra questions...

1. I like eating carrots, cucumbers, and at a push I'll eat some others, but in ways of fruit I like all kinds.

2. I really don't mind unless the smell (which I probably don't like) drifts over to me.

3. Baked Beans I just don't like, but my horror story is about peas. I found a snail in my peas, and since then I've heard of other people finding the same.

Okie Suvie, here is my help ;-)

Q1: I voted actually for cows because its my favorite, but I really hesitated with all of them since I really eat all of them.

Q2: I really love liver and its the only entrail I can eat. As a small child, kids used to eat brains but its not the case anymore. My parents recall I used to love brains but I don't remember at all hehe !!

Q3: Actually its a pretty hard one IMO that needs a bit more of explenation.

France has a tendency to eat a lot more diverse than the choices exposed in your first question: we eat (and I love) horse (absent from choices). Also we eat and I love it also austrich (that can be part of your exotic animals). French do also eat frogs (actually ONLY frog legs are edible and its mighty tasty) & snails. We also eat a lot of bunnies (great meat also !!). G, we French do eat a lot of meat hehe !!

I voted for Pigeons because its really an exquisite meat (which is not only found in Maroccan food) because its part of my favorite once again (like Q1).

I already ate snake and turtle meat in Asia (ok) but I didn't vote for "eat anything" for one reason: psychologically I can't eat insects (...).

But thats the difficulty of the question: in case of a life/death situation I would eat anything of course.

Bonus 1 - What vegetables would you eat/not eat?: I could eat all of them but I usually don't eat brocoli. My favorites are salad (iceberg, lamb's lettuce and spinach), love green beens also.

Bonus 2 - How would you feel or react to someone sitting next to you eating something you would not?

I wouldn't react at all since I am a strong believer of food freedom. However I try not to look that horror in a neighbour's plate.

Bonus 3 - Do you have any examples or horror stories about certain foods you would not eat (again)?

I sometimes have dinner with my parents' friend, and he loves veals' head and what we call heads' cheese, and that looks just nasty !! That jelly and the stuff in it is just gross. I really avoid looking at it to preserve my own appetite !!

Hope that helped Suvie ;-)

Cheers,

I would eat any kind of meat as long as it was muscle tissue only, thoroughly cooked, and NOT seasoned with onion, garlic or any of their botanically similar tasting relatives.

My favorite is clam, squid, and white fish. *y*

My most hated foods are beets, asparigus, garlic, onion, and anything resembling onion such as chives, Shallots, or cilantro :-X

I do not allow onion in my house, if you bring it, you will eat outside or you can just leave.

I also learned how to cook because it's difficult to find many foods that don't contain onion/garlic seasoning!

as for horror... I once ate so many pickled okra, I got sick and didn't eat any for 2 years.

Yeah, I know this survey isn't great. It is hard to have multiple answers and whatnot. Just answer anything as best as you can. If you aren't sure just use the other tab and then leave a little comment in a reply about what you think.

I only need about ten participants. So if you are in contact with someone frequently have them stop in and take the poll.

Thanks everyone for replying so far. I have to get back to class now though.

I didn't vote but I'll tell you;

Q1: I eat some/most seafood and everything else on the list.

Q2: I don't eat any entrails normally (does sausage casing count?) but if it is the only thing available I certainly will but I strongly perfer my meat fully cooked. EDIT: After reading 4Js post I remembered I like both dark and white meat but I perfer white slightly over dark.

Q3: I'll eat anything if familiar foods aren't available.

Bonus1: Lets see, I don't like spinach, mushroom, that might be about it. I've never tried rutabaga so......

(I don't like mustard beans[not string-beans beans, baked beans beans] but technically they are fruit)

Bonus2: No negative reaction at all.

Bonus3: Well I used to like some Indian food but not a lot because the fact that almost everything is in the form of mush and all the strong curry spices do not appeal to me that much. I have an allergy to nuts (peanuts are NOT nuts, they are legumes) although I get pretty minor effects. and sooo many candies and baked goods and such print on their labels "May contain traces of nuts" or "Processed on machinery that also processes nuts" for liability reasons and it sooo annoying because a lot of things like Nature something granola bars I can eat and not get a reaction because these contaminations happen very rarely for many but not so rarely for others. But this is beside the main point. So the last two times I've been to an Indian restaurant my throat and tongue have gotten itchy, I gotten stomach aches and I've thrown up. Now I just don't want to deal with it anymore.

I do not allow onion in my house, if you bring it, you will eat outside or you can just leave.

:-D That line made me crack up for apparent reason.

I voted:

Other/Other/Anything

The reasons being:

For the first question, I chose other because I'd probably eat all of the above mentioned food catagories.

For the second, I chose other because I wouldn't eat anything mentioned, but I wouldn't eat anything but entrails either (I'm picky :-P ) I mainly try to eat the "meat", specifically the white meat if available.

For the third, I chose anything, because when you're in a situation where you need to survive, and normal food sources aren't available, you need to eat whatever you can to live. Just don't think about it, and brush your teeth a lot when the threatening situation is over ;-)

If I didn't elaborate well enough, feel free to ask me about specific points.

Posted

1. Other, because I also like them all.

2. No entrails for me, as I really hate eating any part of an animal other than the pure meat.

3. I hardly think that would ever happen to me, but the most normal sounding food on that question to me was squirrels, rats, and other rodents. I don't like eating anything unusual, and to me, eating a squirel is not very different from eating cow or pig or other normal meat animals.

Bonus 1: I eat many vegtables (for the average 13 year old, anyway), including beans, corn, brocolli (sp?), carrots, tomatoes, and other veggies you can find in any average house. Ones I don't like are the more unusual ones (to me anyway) like asparagus and eggplant, as well as a couple ones like onions and celery (I don't like tangy ones like those).

Bonus 2: If someone sat by me eating something like eggplant or sushi or other foods I don't like, it woudn't bother me much at all. BUT, if someone sat by me and ate something I would never even dream of eating, like grasshoppers or tarantulas (they do eat them in certain places), then I would move as fast as possible. X-D

Bonus 3: No, I really don't have any stories like that. I've never eaten anything I hated so much I puked right on the spot. X-D

Hope that helped. ;-)

1) Being semi-vegetarian, I eat fish and shrimps, but no other seafood as scallops, muscles :-X

2) No entrails, just fishy and shrimpy meat :-)

3) If it is for surviving, everything that can be part of the D
