I recently have built 8421 in LDD in blue.

Looks great.

A rerelease of that set (with the new gearracks, LA and PF) would be SO awesome!

This set which was my first large Technic set was fairly big and had plenty of blue beams, however, the underlying frame was dark grey and black. The body could detach by removing about 3 pins.

@merman - I am kind of wondering about re-releases, haven't seen one in a long, long time. Last Technic one I can recall for sure is the 8439 Pneumatic Loader (3rd release). I am rather surprised like you that the 8421 Crane (I think among most the best Technic set ever) hasn't been re-released, it would sell like hotcakes to all of us, I know I'd pick up a couple more, and LA's would make a lot more sense, the pneumatic cylinders wouldn't hold up the boom overnight even :cry_sad:. If it had 2 LA's on either side of the boom with the new PF elements it would be a huge seller as would be the iconic 8455 Backhoe Loader and 8285 Tow Truck. Doesn't seem they do re-releases any longer. They did 2 of the Front Loader and 2 of the older style Crane Truck (8431,38,60). Or possibly they didn't have many good new designs for a given year, seems in the past several years their Technic offerings have been very good and many, so maybe they are making enough cash from them, doesn't make sense to haul out the old ones and do previous molds anymore...I live in a huge metropolitan area and I have 4 TRU's and hardly see any of the larger Technic sets except right at their release(or beforehand  aka 9397) and sometimes an odd one or two show up every now and then. I saw 6-8070 Supercars from last spring show up a couple months ago and a couple 8043 Excavators, but since then I haven't even bothered to drive to the stores. Gas waste, time waste and all of them are in large malls so lots of traffic, makes more sense to order online where most are available from TRU Online, S@H, or Amazon (unless its a hugely marked up 3rd party seller's item). BL'ers seem to be much more scrupulous about pricing and don't gouge on recently released or just retired Lego items.

yes, rereleasing 8421 in blue would be an amazing idea to please fans and new Lego builders. It provides us with beams and bricks in blue (I have experimented with turning the light bley beams to dark bley, which looks amazing). They can put in PF motors and LA's. The biggest flaw of 8421 is the fact the pneumatic is not strong enough to lift the arm, which can be solved by using one or two LA's.

They could build in two driving rings. One for the arm to extend and the rope to unwind. The other for lifting the boom with the LA's and the outriggers (the axle for this can go through the turntable). They can exchange the wheel for turning the outriggers manually by a wheel that turns the boom (which now has to be done by hand, another flaw).

The steering can be modernized by using the new 7L gearrack and pinning them on regular 13L studless beams. They could use the new panels to hide the battery box and the XL motor. The superstructure needs some updating to build in the PF though, which is the hardest part...

An idea for CUUSOO???

I believe we should have more blue and white models. It would be great if they expanded the Technic colour palette but made sure there was enough good parts in each colour to build something useful!

this is where the bean counters again come into play, and i can appreciate that. if they can't afford to produce a broad range of colors with each seasonal catalog, then they should vary the pallette with each season; if they forego blue and white in 1H, then they should make them available in 2H.

Just like the topic says, where are all the blue kits? Looking through my collection of spare parts, all I see is black, grey, red, and yellow. The 2012 trucks have red frames with black bodies. A red plane. Why couldn't either the tow truck or log truck be blue? Most of my mocs are black cause that's all I have in variety. I can't believe kids don't like blue (if they get to pick the color of models during testing.)

Yes, it's nice to see orange in the mix. But I want huge blue kits!! Who's with me!?

I feel the pain, I believe the last larger set in blue was the 8435 4WD back in 2004 or 2005. As far as kids go with the younger style themes a lot of sets have blue color pieces in them. Would be cool to see a larger PF backhoe/loader in blue, like the New Holland line that is somewhat common in Michigan.

Nice coloring on the tow truck, looks like the 8285, no? I never did buy the 8462 Pneumatic Tow Truck, was in the dark ages then, but it looked pretty futuristic anyway and the 8285 had a lot more features, luckily I was out of the dark ages by then and have a couple still sealed. Our largest towing service in the city and suburbs where I live has dark blue wreckers, flatbeds and low boy tractor-trailers for hauling broke down construction equipment, etc. However, all of the tow trucks, and really there are only 2, the 8285 and the most recent 9395, are black. Lots of red and gray for the underpinnings and chassis, especially on the 8285, but once its built you would hardly know most of it except for the outer fairings, panels and front end, since they are all black. Clever design. But I too would like to see more Technic offerings in the white, orange (would like to see an orange excavator, a lot of contractors have those around here)and of course may favorite among many others here, blue...

There are worse offenses out there with the $1 per piece catagory. 3713 in black (3713.gif) are ridiculously hard to find and buy and are in the 1 dollar range to get any decent quantity. And add to that the fact that near every MOC uses them.

Then again, finding that same part in blue is even harder to find.

Funny I never noticed that on the full bushes that they are almost always gray. The 8436 truck had a lot of black full bushes, and I can't really which set or season had a lot of red bushes, but for the most part they are all gray. Would be kind of nice to see some different color axles instead of the black and gray ones, the 8416 Forklift had a long white axle for raising/lowering the forks, that was an interesting find when I built that set many moons ago...

That 8435 was the last set to really have that color palette, along with the small 8415 Dump Truck of the same general timeframe. Then it was red, yellow or black for the most part, with the 8288 Crane having mostly white. And on that note, why in the heck did a $49 MSRP set rise to astronomical levels. I bought one from Bricklink last fall for $400, and now on Amazon they are going for between $500-over 600 each. That has got to be the largest markup on a set in history. Even the 8421, 8285 and 8455 sets didn't rise that much in that short of time and they contain a lot more pieces and functions. Boggles my mind...kinda glad I kept one which is a bit faded (white pieces) from sunlight, gave the other one to a neighbor's kid (big mistake now that I know the value), and wanted another to make a tower crane so bit the bullet and forked over $400. Luckily the seller was in my city so no shipping involved, but man that set is just nuts in its rise in value.

Sometime next week I'm going to the Lego store in Copenhagen to buy some new parts, I'm on holiday in scandinavia now so I don't have to travel that far. When I'm back home in 2 weeks I'm able to finish my blue trial truck. Based on the tatra 6x6 by Nielsvdv (instructions on brickshelf) and the cabin is based on the 8285 B-model.

The color blue is a must-have for Technic. I was also thinking, who wants fuchsia colored beams? Huh...is it brilliant or not?!

I would love to design a blue koenigseg agera-r as a supercar for lego. If they only let me. :( I'd need crowkillers help for the body though. :)

I'd love to see more blue, especially in a Super Car!

I just hope LEGO doesn't read our wishes as "more blue pins" instead.

Brilliant it is, fuchsia is a real interesting color. Part of the reason I bought the 9457 Ninjago(sorry) Fangypre Wrecking Ball Crane. Plan to modify it to fit in with my other cranes (also have 2 ea 7632 City Cranes, they have a LOT of Technic in them). Will sit next to my 8288 Crawler Crane. Getting back to it though, fuchsia is a cool color, always been a fan of purplish type colors. Remember the days of cars getting painted with iridescent paint that changed colors depending on the sunlight? At first you might think they were red, then they would pass you and looked purplish, then blue. That was kind of cool paint.

That blue body, white frame and boom 8285 would be perfect size for next years model. Only black are the pins and axles. No red or yellow. Brilliant!

I don't want to know how much it would cost to replicate that model.

I would love to see you design just about anything for Lego, and for as well as I know your previous work, you certainly don't need any assistance from me to pull off something that is anything less than amazing...
