Hello fellow Lego fans

I am from South Africa and used to have a fair amount of Lego as a child. I recently started to pick up an interest in collecting Lego again, mainly to try get creative. I love building things however i am far form an expert in design etc.

I am a huge Star wars and sci-fi fan, although I do enjoy all sorts of genres in movies. I quite enjoy PC gaming and tech stuff, but I am also quite happy to be out in the beautiful countryside/wilderness we have here in South Africa. Another one of my interests is Airsoft, a military simulation sport. I am not sure if any of you ever played a game called Spore, but it was quite enjoyable to be able to design your own creation to be used in game. I spent a LOT of time just creating. I stumbled across LDD a few weeks back and that has sparked my sudden interest in Lego again. It reminded me of my days creating in Spore.

For what it is worth, here is a link to my Spore page

EDIT: Ok cant post links yet. Will come back and post the link if anyone would like to see it later once I have some more posts ;)

I found a mom doing some toy clean out and managed to buy well over 2500 pieces from around 40 sets of lego at an almost give away price.( Many just small sets ) This was enough to get me started again, and I have since bought about 7 new sets, about 1 a week. I'll admit it has been expensive for me , but now I have a nice variety to start with.

I made my first little mini "mech" walker today and will try post the lxf file in the correct topic.EDIT: posted LDD MOC: Mini Walker Mech

I am also starting to take an interest in photography so hopefully one day I can add some high quality MOC scene based photograph.

See you all around ;)

Welcome to EB!

Great to have more Sci-Fi fans on the board :excited:

I never did try spore - though I have quite enjoyed Sid Meier's other games.

I look forward to your well photographed Sci-Fi builds

Thanks for the welcome :)

There is a lot of Lego here, but I don't think collecting/ advanced MOC is very big, it seems more sales are for kids as toys.

The only real downside is the steep price of Lego here. Using the example of set 9495 Gold Leaders Y wing that I just bought. RRP is $50 which should be around R400 direct exchange rate. I ended up paying R700 for this, nearly double the direct exchange rate and this was from a major retail toys store. Won't mention any names to be fair. Lego is in that price range markup everywhere here in South Africa. It obviously has to do with the shipping, customs and import duties etc.
