Here's a creation that I've been building a full two months, a few hours per day, for the 3rd exhibition of LUG Skockani (November 2011).

This time includes everything from planning on a paper (based on the vision that has existed since March 2011.) up to the last detail the diorama.

Diorama is made modular, so I could put it together in 2-3 hours, and disassemble it in about an hour...

If somebody is interested, you can see pictures of construction on this link ... the name of each image is day-month-year-number of image , so it is possible to see progress by days...

As a big fan of Lord of the Rings, an inspiration came to me from this movie ... I watched it 2-3 times in the 3 months before beginning of construction, plus I read the Hobbit and the Silmarillion ... The most concrete inspiration was the battle of Helm's Deep, i haven't tried to copy buildings, but pursued my vision ... There were many comments on the exhibition, and the vast majority of people recognize what it is, or at least from where came the inspiration ... and I am very glad about that ...

Here are a few pictures, the rest are available in this gallery (not the same gallery, a gallery of construction)

Dimensions are 4 by 6,5 baseplates...after lugbulk arrives I'll expand it to 6 by 8,5 baseplates...

Wow that´s such big and really really awesome!!!

I love it

Huge amount of lego for an absolutely superb creation!

thanks

I've used around 10,000 bricks for entire creation...

It looks good! I can definitely see the Helm's Deep inspiration, it looks like you've been inspired by the siege of Minas Tirith too! I like the small details such as the stepping stones.

I like this MOC.

A lot of good work has been done with the medieval market village sets.

Are the castle peices from the older Castle sets or the new Joust sets?

Good building technique for the ramp up to the main gate.

I like the apple tree and have thought of something similar for my diorama.

I also particularly like the burning oil pouring down onto the attackers.

Very impressive! I love the outer wall housing the city within. The castle itself is a nice design and well built. All the goings on in the city are well done and not too much or too little.

Except medieval market village set and kingdoms farm and blacksmith everything was custom built...

On the pictures only one MMV set is modified, but now both are...unfortunately I don't have time and space to put it all together again, so I can take new pictures... :cry_sad:

there is a cherry tree too, but have only a few of those, so it's not easy to notice...

burning oil was a problem on exhibition...a lot of people crossed the improvised fences to grab it...older people, not kids...

This is one of the things that stuck out for me as well. It's amazing how a little detail like that breaths life into a MOC. The whole thing is outstanding.

thanks for nice comments... :classic:

there is a lot of details across this MOC, but I've chosen only a few for the first post...that's why I've posted links to brickshelf folders...

Fantastic work. This is what I hope to do myself once I get the bricks and the space for it; an outer LOTR-ish wall with an attacking and a defending force and a small village within. Possibly with a harbor on the other side as well, if room for it.

Here you can see some pictures from exhibition, and here some during construction

On exhibition it was part of larger diorama, which I've made with EB member Sammael.

Here are some houses I've made for this diorama

I hope you like this version better, I certainly do. :classic:

Great job, the use of official Lego sets with your MOCs is seemless. Fantastic project and it looks like you took a little inspiration from LOTR:RotK.

thanks...

If you take a look at the first post at this topic, I've stated that inspiration came from LOTR movies, not from LEGO sets...

And I've forgot to mention, around 20,000 LEGO pieces were used, and dimension is 6x9,5 baseplates...
