Meatman Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Here is another one at TechnicBricks. Taking advantage of TLG's recent license with Lamborghini, which gave us some fantastic Racers models, LEGO Direct decided to partner with the LEGO Technic Designers team, the LEGO Racers Marketing Manager (formerly also at LEGO Technic as you might remember) and one of the best Technic fan builders, yes Paul Boratko (Crowkillers), to release an exclusive model based on his own design from the Lamborghini Murciélago. DLuders Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I sent an e-mail (and Eurobricks Private Message) to Paul Boratko to see if it's true or not. The story is VERY ELABORATE and COULD BE true; Technic AFOLs have been clamoring for a "fan-designed" Technic set for years. The Lego KOOOZOOOO or however the megabluck you spell it route is very daunting, so a "Limited Edition" set like this could be a moneymaker for TLG. Quote
Meatman Posted April 1, 2012 Author Posted April 1, 2012 (edited) No way that is real. If Lego would have used his design, they would have most certainly made new replica Lamborghini wheels or wheel covers for it and also applied Lamborghini stickers. Paul(or someone) should have submitted this to that C U U S O O website a long time ago. I can honestly see this possibly getting 10,000 votes. It would be a very solid entry in my opinion. DLuders Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 (edited) Other fine Lego Technic MOCs have been submitted to Lego C-U-U-S-O-O or however the megabluck you spell it in the past, but they only garnered a few hundred votes each. TLG can certainly chrome-plate its existing wheels without having to make new parts. There have been several Lego Modular Buildings and Lego Architecture sets designed by serious Lego AFOLs, so WHY NOT have Lego Technic/Racers sets designed by fans too? Fernando Correia (a.k.a. Conchas, who runs TechnicBRICKS) usually posts his new material on Sundays. It's unfortunate that the 1st day of this month falls on a Sunday. I think that this story (with its detailed box artwork) is true, but I'm trying to get Paul Boratko to confirm. Paul already posted a Homer Simpson-type video about this date on another topic, so if he were involved with a hoax, wouldn't he try to hide the date from everybody? Fernando Correia has been the main conduit of Lego Technic-exclusive news for years. If I'm a victim of a cruel wiener, so be it. I have a hard time believing that there's a worldwide conspiracy to FAKE OUT everyone all day long. Notice that the box art contains the LEGO logo (which is copyrighted). I doubt TLG would be involved with today's jokes, since they are VERY PROTECTIVE about their reputation and would not allow bogus stories to be published about THEIR private company. mahjqa Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Elaborate, but not convincing enough. Hey Paul, if you're reading this; let me do the Photoshopping next time. Quote
Meatman Posted April 1, 2012 Author Posted April 1, 2012 Besides, does Lego even still have the Lamborghini License? I would have rather seen the Vampire GT as a set. Quote
mahjqa Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I sure hope so, otherwise, they'd be in real trouble for releasing these: Bricklink result for 'Lamborghini'. Quote
sama Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I feel like a fool now. I thought this was a real set. Quote
Meatman Posted April 1, 2012 Author Posted April 1, 2012 (edited) @Mahjqa I know that Lego had it and made little use of it with those 2 block built sets, but do they still have it? Edited April 1, 2012 by Meatman Quote
Erik Leppen Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Count on this being 100% fake, for one simple reason: if it were real, then surely this wouldn't be published on APRIL FOOLS DAY. ;) Quote

Kronos Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I talked to Paul (Crowkiller) on the phone earlier today and he said it was a wiener. Very convincing... Quote
Paul Boratko Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 (edited) I would like to go on record and state that I had absolutely nothing to do with this... As someone stated before, even if Lego reworked this model to their liking, they would certainly not release it with chromed traditional Lego wheels, they would come up with something similar to what the real car has, especially if they had the Lamborghini Logo slapped on the Front... And the dead giveaway is the fact that Lego would never release a set with any text covering up any portion of the actual model's picture... Edited April 1, 2012 by Paul Boratko Quote

DLuders Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 There must have been a worldwide conspiracy after all: We-Brick.com -- An AFOL Dating Web Site: "A new Dating Web-Site for LEGO Fans" "Having a hard time finding that special person that shares your interst in LEGO? Sign up today with We-brick.com, create your profile and be matched up with other LEGO fans based on your building style and love of LEGO themes. "We-brick.com creates a safe, friendly environment to meet other LEGO fans, whether you're looking for a friend, romance, or just someone to start a LUG with." There is a need for replacement moderators (since they have probably been killed off after today's shenanigans): Quote
Conchas Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Indeed it was an january jagoff's wiener! I was not really expecting to fool any of you with my little Photoshop skills and available media resources. No dedicated photographic material was prepared beforehand, having this day in mind. It doesn't matter to say the effort put on this was also relative small, and I wouldn't be able to do it any better after all. Anyway I decided to play the january jagoff's this year after postponing it for several times the years before, to remember it was again the time almost too late... @Majhqa I didn't ask Paul to do this, despite I've promptly informed him once it was done. I recognize your Photoshop skills are far beyond my own. So I'd be very curious to see what you would come with. Honestly! Maybe also a good idea for an EB activity, to see what the folks come up with. Initially I made it more Technic like, with a typical background used on Technic sets boxes. But when it came to work the transparency on the model shadows I gave up for a more simplistic and faster approach. Otherwise I was still struggling with the task by now... Hence the Murciélago over that nice asphalt background in the photo taken by Paul. Then it must be a Racers set, which also fits better, the model itself. In the end it was the box layout that does not fit the Racers theme. But who cares?... A 3D box template would have been also great, but the effort and time would have been much higher also... Could have tried to overlay some fake stickers illusion, but that's definitely well above my Photoshop skills to make something decent and convincing! After all not many would have believed in it, as I didn't also believe in any of the other jokes running yesterday in almost every blog on the LEGO scene... @Paul Is it better now? BTW, I'm not so sure if LEGO once consider to produce a model like this, if they would develop specific rims or covers for the wheels. Would better bet on the customized stickers. However this story doesn't need to stop here!... You just need to submit your model at LEGO CUUSOO, so that we all can vote on it and show that the LEGO Technic fans community can also drive something out of the LEGO production lines in Billund.
