andhe Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 This was being debated when the first pictures of series 7 CMF's were revealed. The Black Knight's shield was hidden but now it can be seen in a new advert/game page at the back of the current Lego Magazine (my copy arrived yesterday). Should get some army builders excited. The helmet is nothing new, but nice printing on the breastplate as well as the dark grey long sword. Quote
Hive Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Awesome! I hope I'll be able to get some of these. Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Nice catch-- I'm looking to load up on these guys in a big way. Quote
Wardancer Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 (edited) Very interesting!! I can't wait to get loads of them for 2,49 a fig. I wonder what torso is underneath. Plain black? Also, in this picture it strikes me what an utterly amazing helmet the Aztec has. Edit: Now that I think of it, I notice that the boar print seems quite unusual for LEGO. It's very detailled, yes, we already had that, but its also not stylized, simplified or iconified, but sort of realistic, evil and primeval. I don't find better words, but can you see what I mean? JackJonespaw Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Wow! That is a nice shield. But I believe that this topic belongs in the Series 7 discussion topic. Quote
andhe Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 Wow! That is a nice shield. But I believe that this topic belongs in the Series 7 discussion topic. I think it's still relevant to Castle builders. I've only highlighted the points of interest relating to this theme. But I was planning on surfing over to the special themes forum and joining the conversation anyway. Quote

I agree with you, for some reason, LEGO faction logo design in Castle has been consistently becoming more and more realistic / detailed. Since I view the LEGO aesthetics as a kind of "cartoonization" of real life (I mean, look at the minifigs ), I'm not sure this is the right path to go. One just has to look that the Kingdoms faction logos are much more detailed and sober than previous faction logos... Quote
TheLegoDr Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 I am definitely excited to army build this fella. I was kind of hoping it was a rhino on the shield, but a boar is pretty bad-a too. I am all for it. It'd be neat to have torso printing as well, but not necessary with that detailed armor piece. I may have to incorporate them into some other legion I have. Thanks for the post. I have yet to see my copy. Quote
Ecclesiastes Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Nice catch! But I want a lot of those golden spears! Quote
Stiel Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 And there are 5 of them in one box, so it should be a more readily available figure. From a production point of view, this makes sense, as no new moulds are necessary to produce this, and from a collector's/army builder's point of view, this figure is still awesome with all the exciting pieces of equipment (long sword in new colour, boar shield, armor with new print). Win-win! Quote
Nagyzee Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 The boar is nice. They have gone overboard with the silver lining/ornamentation on this figure though. At least in my opinion. The head is not that useful either (red eyes), and the helmet is also one of the less nice ones that Lego produces. I'll probably collect only 1-2 of this. The Aztec on the other hand is awesome. The Valkyrie is quite excellent, too. Quote
Donut Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 How do you know there will be 5 per box? WhiteFang has already done a review on this set and found there to be 5 per box. Quote
Stiel Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 Also, it is nice to see pearl dark gray as a weapon color used more and more. The Kingdoms dragon knights gave us the regular short sword, halberd, spear and crossbow, which was a good start, and the CM minifigs had the axehead, gladius, round shield and now long sword in pearl dark gray color (plus other themes had a few other weapons, like the khopesh in Pharaoh's Quest, and different guns etc., but those are less interesting to me).
