I'm not saying todays sets arn't as complex as the sets from years ago, they are. I consider the unimog to be the best set EVER RELEASED. But on the whole I just don't feel that modern sets use the modern system of technic parts to their full potencial whereas the sets from some time ago certainly did. Sure the modern sets are good, they have been getting better. But there is potencial for a new golden age that has not been tapped yet.

Some models really use the studless very well (8043, 8258, 8265, and even some models smaller)

On the contrary, the way the chassis of the Unimog is built is a nightmare... T_T

Someone said that the shorter time to develop each model had an impact on the final products.

I do agree with that.

i share a similar sentiment. the new models have very clean lines, but the older sets relied more on innovation. the designs were more inherently instructive.

Not sure i would say the unimog,s chassis is a nightmare, LOL. but its complicated that,s for sure. I liked it so much I just ordered another one, The older sets had their appeal, as time went by things got more complex, and more detailed. Sets today don,t look like square clunky boxes made out of bricks. They look more like the real thing, which is one of the reasons I like the studless designs of now over the older sets. Yes that older sets are cool, but really they don,t come close to the new stuff as far as function and appeal to the eye I think.
