TinkerBrick Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Hi Folks! This is just my 2nd post regarding something i'm building myself. My dark ages ended about 14 month ago and the 8258 was the first "new" set besides the 8043. The last lego set before my dark ages was the green code pilot truck. Good set, but now i have to learn everything new, since it is all studless now. So, please be patient if some solutions to my mod are not as smooth or technically sophisticated. During last year a added a couple mods to the 8258, especially Han's. But i wasn't quite satisfied withe the outcome - Han's mod had dual wheel on the rear axles but only one differential. I found a solution to that at BrickShelf to set. Anyway, i wanted a 5th axle really bad, and it had to be steered! I wanted it to be mostly remote controllable, but when it comes to driving, i wanted to keep the V8-engine. I started on the a couple weeks ago. I adopted some ideas i found around the web (Eurobricks, MOCPages, Brickshelf, ...). I'll make a bibliography when the project is done. Well, here is the first result. I set up a BrickShelf Folder: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=TinkerBrick13 Unfortunately, i'm not allowed to deep link images yet. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5397655 5 axles in total http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5397656 Axles 1,2 and 5 are steered http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5397657 Cab doors open http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5397658 Motorized Steering (1 PF M-Motor) http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5397660 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5397661 Separat Motor for the outriggers. Located above axle 3. Gear down with a worm gear, a clutch gear and bewel gears. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5397662 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5397665 Axle 5 is steered, above axle 4 is a XL-Motor for driving. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5397663 Driveshaft for rear steering http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5397664 Axles 3 and 4 are driven What needs to be done: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5397659 Rebuilt gearbox to fit 3 more M-Motors to power the crane. And of course, a complete rewiring. For completion i need a few more parts anyway, such as extension wires, LED-Lights and one more IR-receiver I'd be grateful for any comments, suggestion or ideas. Regards, Tinkerbrick Quote
DLuders Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) Here are TinkerBrick's photos (for ease of discussion and feedback): "5 Axles in Total: Axles 1, 2, and 5 are steered: Cab doors open: Motorized steering (one PF M-motor): Separate motor for the outriggers, located above Axle 3. Gear down with a worm gear, a clutch gear and bevel gears: Axle 5 is steered. Above Axle 4 is a PF XL-Motor for driving: Driveshaft for rear steering: Axles 3 and 4 are driven: What needs to be done -- Rebuild gearbox to fit 3 more M-Motors to power the crane. And of course, a complete rewiring: For completion I need a few more parts anyway, such as extension wires, LED-Lights and one more IR-receiver. I'd be grateful for any comments, suggestion or ideas. dfs473 Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 good so far^^ Do you put the original arm onto the truck or do you make a bigger crane? Regards dfs473 Quote
TinkerBrick Posted March 4, 2012 Author Posted March 4, 2012 @ DLuders: Many Thanks for Deeplinking the images. @ dfs473: For starters i'll set up the original crane, although my mind boggles with setting the up the extendible part of the structure with micro motor as well as the winch. I Don't know yet were to place the small AAA battery box. But first of all, i need to fix the gearbox for turning and lifting the crane. Quote
Porty Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) Nice work! I did not know you could RC this set. I really like the steering design. Edited March 4, 2012 by Porty Quote
