smokebelch Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) Just seen the terribly sad new that Ralph MaQuarrie has passed away. This is the man who is responsible more than any other for the 'look' of Star Wars, and his conceptual designs were the basis for pretty much all the iconic characters from the original trilogy. A truly amazing artist, and a huge inspiration on my own photography of my Star Wars toys. RIP Ralph. Bit more info here- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-17249596 And check out some of his work here- http://www.ralphmcquarrie.com/ Edited March 4, 2012 by smokebelch Quote

Artifex Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 RIP Ralph -- you did a huge deed for everybody's imagination. Your job is done -- very well done. Quote
Jedd the Jedi Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Another legend has left us - RIP. Without Ralph MacQuarrie, Star Wars would've looked very different, and probably wouldn't even have been made as his drawings were crucial to getting it off the ground. It's a good thing we have his wonderful work to remember him bye. Sniff. Quote
Jedi master Brick Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 RIP Ralph. He is just as important to star wars as Lucas and responsible for how we see star wars Quote
mortesv Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I'm sad to hear this and I second everything that has been said here. He will continue to be a true inspiration in many years to come Quote
Brickadeer Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 A slideshow of his work can be watched here: http://starwars.com/news/ralph_mcquarrie_remembered.html I've never been aware of him and watched his work for the first time now. I like his ability to create depth. The lightsabres from ANH sketch have truely deserved this name, and the slender Y-Wings are simply fantastic. Quote
