sama Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Hi, I bought my Unimog on Febuary, 17 and I opened it to verify the contents. But when I looked at the wheels, one of them had some ugly markings and deformities on the side. It looks like something happened during the molding process. I just wanted to know if anybody else had this problem and do you think LEGO would send another replacement wheel if I called them? I'll post pictures soon. Quote
Pat-Ard Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 hmmm, no didn't have any of this. But I think a call at Lego Customer Service would help you! Quote

I have not heard anyone complaining about there wheels,I doubt it's a moulding issue or we would have more notice this! Can u post pictures? Quote
Robert M Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Not nesessarily a molding problem, but maybe a finishing problem were the excess swarf hasn't been cut off. This part could have just missed this section on the production line. Quote
timslegos Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I would definitely call Lego, they are very nice people and will definitely replace the tires. tim Quote
tripletschiee Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Can you post some pictures? That would help to see what exactly xou mean. Thanks! Quote
sama Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 I got some pictures. Sorry if some aren't so clear but you could see the problem. They look ugly.(Sorry if the pics are two big, I rushed in getting them to LEGO) Here is the normal wheel Here is one faulty wheel Here is the other faulty wheel Here are all of them together Quote
sama Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 LEGO is so generous. I called them and in 10 days, I will get my new wheels! Quote
Blakbird Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 LEGO is so generous. I called them and in 10 days, I will get my new wheels! Looks like you meant tires, not wheels. There is certainly some odd damage there that I have not seen before. Glad to hear LEGO will be replacing them! Quote
allanp Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 looks like two parts of the mold did not properly mate together. Quote
davidmull Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I also taught u ment ur wheels not ur tires.lego are very helpfull :) Quote
sama Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 Whoops! The tires were the faulty parts. Quote
RohanBeckett Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Just a tip: I downloaded the jpg's, and looked at the EXIF info.. I can see they were taken with a Canon PowerShot S3 IS When taking Close-Up pictures.. make sure you enable Macro Mode, (little flower icon), then, when you aim, and partially hold down the shutter button, you'll hear the lens whir, and it'll focus SUPER Sharp on close up objects (as close as 5 cm!) You just need to make sure you've got a bit more ambient light, sometimes (esp with black objects like those tyres) RB Quote

I just forgot to use it when taking the first three pictures. I realized the quality was bad so I macro for the other pictures. I just had to take them in a hurry so I could get them to LEGO customer service. But, I think you guys know how bad the defects on the tire are. Quote
88high Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I took a look at several of my wheels under a light, including the 94.8X44R and the new unimog tires. Most all tires have these very very light deformitys. I just deal with em! Quote
sama Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 (edited) I don't know if you can see it but mine had all this patchy sticky stuff that wouldn't come off. And I just noticed my new wheels lego I received have a light pattern of those lines too, but luckily no sticky stuff! Edited March 21, 2012 by sama Quote
skylinedan Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 This is odd, I just got a set of Unimog tires n rims off ebay that look just like the ones you got with your set. I also got a set of super car wheels too, but they appear to look fine. For what they look like, i,m not gonna complain, I got them pretty cheap. Dan Quote
sama Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 I paid full price for my Mog, $260, tax included. Quote
skylinedan Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 I bought two 8110,s the first I got from LEGO, had to pay tax and shipping. That one cost me 230 something, the second one I got for 194.00 and shipping off ebay so it was a bit cheaper. I got all the wheels n tires for less than 20 bucks, just took almost 3 weeks to get them. Like I said the Unimog tires look a lot like your original ones did, my point was this maybe happening more than we know about. I,m wondering if someone got a set with "bad" tires like you did, got LEGO to replace them, then just puit the bad ones on ebay to make a few bucks. Dan Quote
