Hive Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I was thinking that since we lost Kingdoms (a loss I am still personally grieving over ), and won't get any Castle sets for a while... how about a discussion on which non-Castle sets that can, without too many modifications, be used in a Castle setup (not taking the minifigs into consideration)? I'll start with the ones I either already have, for use with Castle, or plan on buying: Harry Potter 4738 Hagrid's Hut I can't recall the name of the guy who did it, but I saw a Castle village setup by someone here on Eurobricks in which he used it as a witch hut. I found that to be an absolutely great idea, and think it fits perfectly as a such. Also, it turned out to be a really interesting build! Pirates of The Caribbean 4183 The Mill I reckon this could pretty much be used as is, maybe just removing the green sea weed thingies. Though I'm not really sure that combining a mill with a clock tower is perfectly historical... 4193 The London Escape This one is pretty much good to go as well after removing/replacing the lamps with torches. Only drawback is that the building is not properly enclosed, and thus will not fit perfectly with MMV and MVR. 4194 Whitecap Bay Some more work is required here, as the light and the cannon are both a bit too futuristic. But a great assortment of bricks, and I could definately see it as a nice coastal Castle outpost. ...and of course, the LOTR sets coming this summer will all (more or less) be great for Castle builds - and I especially look forward to building Helm's Deep together with a castle. Any other thoughts on sets we can use to extend our Castle collection? Quote
Wardancer Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 (edited) Great thread!! I have been looking for a home for my elves for a while and came to the conclusion, that the last edition of 4842 Hogwarts is obviously a really nice castle for many factions. So I hope to buy a set soon and sell all the figs and pottery stuff. 9516 Jabbas Palace (upcoming) If you throw out all the Star Wars figs it is a very interestingly shaped building with a tower! Tan !! Edited February 18, 2012 by Wardancer Quote

Well, I am not a 100% on this myself. A few modifications I would make: Lots of big trees around it, a few tan ornaments here and there, make some areas a tad taller and less bulky. The chapel I would most likely leave as it is. An alternative would be Helms Deep, but this is too gray and bulky for what I imagine as an elven home. Edited February 18, 2012 by Wardancer Quote
dyntar Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I use the pirates of the Carribean sets. Escape from London and the Mill. but I also use The Diagon Alley set from HP with a few changes. Gringotts makes a good town hall for my medieval town. Olivanders fits in great and Borgin and Burkes is now a witches potion shop. I'm also planning on converting my 3 winter village sets into medieval shops. The buildings look rustic as they are so it won't take much converting. Quote
Fantu Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I use a modified version of 7573 Battle of Alamut as my elven home... I wish I had a few more of it to build a massive city for them. Quote

Very fitting set for a slightly fantasy-oriented castle world, I agree. Of the upcoming sets the Vampire Castle from Monster Fighters is quite a nobrainer, if your world has room for a dark "fright knightish" faction. The haunted house does look very promising too, whether it's Monster Fighters exclusive or a standalone set. I've been pondering about buying the 5766 Log Cabin and modifying it to a small medieval farmhouse. But I haven't yet seen it in any significant sale. Edited February 18, 2012 by Haltiamieli Quote
Huntleyfx Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 SInce I own the Log Cabin, it works well for American styled MOCs, even Revolutionary War, but it doesn't quite work as well with medieval. My suspicions are it is the roof, since it is almost completely sloped. Quote

Thanks for the inspiration, I would probably never have thought of it myself. But it fits so perfectly. I've been thinking about the same for a while, though the door and windows throws me off a bit. Quote
Phyre Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I'm curious as to how those of you that mentioned the Winter Village sets are planning on modifying them. I have all three sets, but I haven't really thought of good ways to modify them to fit in with my medieval village (I'm not that great at MOCing yet). I've incorporated all the 2009 Pirates sets into my village, as well as the majority of the Pharaoh's Quest theme (minus the vehicles of course), and some Ninjago sets. I also modified the old Jabba's Palace so it would fit in, and used pieces from the two white Creator houses released around 2006-2007 to build more medieval looking houses. One part of my medieval LEGO word is a haunted village, so I have alo included the Harry Potter Graveyard Duel set from 2005, and all of the old Halloween Studios sets. And so I also plan on somehow incorporating all of the Monster Fighters sets (even the train - I'll figure out some way to explain it) as well as the haunted house. And of course all the LotR sets, which are technically castle sets anyway. Oh, and if I get any more PotC sets besides Queen Anne's Revenge, they'll be included too. Quote

My mind makes it all fit somehow and then thats cool for me Quote

I have some limits, like no modern technology (although I may end up bringing a little of that into my village's story soon with the idea of a time portal). But yeah, I have ninjas, pharaohs, spartans, knights, skeletons, elves, imperial soldiers, and all sorts of other people and creatures incorporated. Well, since a few people seem interested in my setup, I'll try and get some pictures taken soon and post a topic. Quote
