Dr Rod Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) Dr Rod has received word that construction has completed on his embassy located in the coastal town of Hykerbia, on the South Eastern border of Mitgardia. Ths embassy is designed to reflect the moods and character of Nocturnus, as well as to fit in with the Architecture of Hykerbia. Tomcat's description of Hykerbia is below: Our climate is temperate with a sea port view on your porch, snow cap mountain in your backyard and expansive farmland just outside the walls. The city is a mix of old historical medieval style of wood, rock and mortar, Nordic and Dwarvish homesteads and a rapidly growing urbanised Victorian style with glass and bricks. The embassy is available for all Nocturnians to visit, the Nocturnian vegetation, lava and swamp features should make any Nocturnians feel right at home. A couple of members of the North Rakath Mountains Trading Company are discussing a trade deal with a local Mitgardian dwarf, a couple of orcs have just entered and Lord Mocka the cat watches over all visitors. The embassy is particularly attractive after hours when the true beauty of the Nocturnian lava and swamp features can be appreciated. Oleg, Dr Rod Edited February 15, 2012 by Dr Rod Quote
Niku Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Interesting roof design, and such a great quantity of tiles used. I like the pics with light enhances the feeling of lava and polluting swamp. Quote
Evil Stu Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Brilliant roof, and great job on the smaller details like the foliage and windows. Yet another excellent standard MOC Quote
Jesperallen Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 That is a great roof! You´ve managed to give the moc the right atmosphere. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Some really nice techniques Dr. The roof is quite nice. Lovely to see some tastes of home on offer as well Quote
MikeyB Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Love the roof technique and the tile facade on the building. I hope one day Ill have enough of those tiles without destroying all my modular houses to do something similar! Quote
Tomcat RIO Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I love it Dr Rod!!! This is most beautiful especially the night scene! How did you know we Hykerbians have Ballroom dining, fireworks and drinking parties till the late of night :x The roof tiling and brickwork are what I like most. Quote
CptMugwash Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Awesome, looks like a proper modern bungalow with a fantasy twist and I'm a big fan of those light bricks I think the roof could have done with a chimney of sorts, mind you, if you have underfloor lava heating then you won't need one The abundance of tiles and the roof bricks is great, it has a nice modular building style fealing to it. SkaForHire Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 That is one very attractive building, I would go as far as saying it was almost "sexy". It is really eye catching, and I think one of the sharpest we have seen. The lights are a great touch, keep up the awesome work! Where do those roof tiles come from? Quote
Dr Rod Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Thanks for all the comments folks!! I have been wanting to make a roof with those bricks for a few months, glad I finally got my act together!! The roof is made from these: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=47457 Some thief has bought most of the dark red ones though!! I have plans for a bigger building using the same roof tiling system (with about 1000 of these) for Dr Rod's lair. I actually built the entire rear of the roof too, but none of the photos show it!! Dr Rod Quote
Maxim I Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 (edited) I am sure even the most fearsome Northmen will cross the street to pass by the house at the opposite side Like everyone else already said: great technic for the roof!! It really gives a nice result. How you did the lighting of the lava and swamp? Edited February 16, 2012 by DaMaximus Quote
Balthasar Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Interesting roof design indeed. I also like the red and grey tiles working together. Especially at the windows. Always such a great addition when lights are added to a MOC. Quote
Hersbrucker Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I love the roof, to bad that it is so shiny on that pictures Quote
de Gothia Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 That roof is excellent! Which bricks are used? The whole scene just breaths evil. The pits with the lights under is great! Lucky for us that it´s in Mitgardia and not Avalonia! Quote
Hersbrucker Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) ... Which bricks are used? Thats this one: I have 8 bricks of them in red or less, so its great to see that Dr Rod used them in this quantity of that building Edited February 17, 2012 by Hersbrucker Quote
Dr Rod Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Thats this one: I have 8 bricks of them in red or less, so its great to see that Dr Rod used them in this quantity of that building They are dark red and I used around 350 on the embassy. I did the rear too, even though it can't be seen in the photos!! I have 1000 of them, got a big roof coming for Dr Rod's Rakath Mtns lair some time Dr Rod Quote
Hersbrucker Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I have 1000 of them... Dr Rod Amazing Quote
Mike S Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Never seen this style roof used before but it looks awesome just like the walls! Quote
Rogue Angel Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 You've got some really nice building techniques here. Using that roof piece is a great idea! I love the tiling on the house though. The use of 2x1s instead of larger tiles really gives it a bricks n mortar feel. It really makes your embassy pop! I also love your piece usage for the flowers/plant on the right side of the house. And of course the lighting is awesome. Great job! Quote
robuko Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 This fits so well with the Hykerbia vibe, quite a brave and very successful idea go for this relatively "modern" style of building. I really like the vegetation. Brickwork around the windows especially is great, and of course the light bricks take it up another level. Quote
Dr Rod Posted February 18, 2012 Author Posted February 18, 2012 This fits so well with the Hykerbia vibe, quite a brave and very successful idea go for this relatively "modern" style of building. I really like the vegetation. Brickwork around the windows especially is great, and of course the light bricks take it up another level. Dr Rod decided to establish his embassy in the "rapidly growing urbanised Victorian style with glass and bricks" part of Hykerbia. I liked the idea of the "modernised" section of Hykerbia, it is a trading port and there would likely be a bit of money around... Next door is a trade office for the North Rakath Trading Company (NRTC), a successful trading group of which Dr Rod is part owner. I have MOCS planned for the NRTC in the next few months... Gabe Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Lovely embassy Dr. Rod! I think i like the nightime shot the best - so deliciously creepy. It looks like some of the interior light spills through the gaps in the roof tiles - is that so, or is it just reflections? Looks great anyway, like the house itself is mysteriously glowing. Quote
Palathadric Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 The roofing is really cool on this MOC. It looks really authentic. I also really appreciate the red bricks around the windows and the windows themselves also look really good somehow. Good lighting effects! Quote
