D2C and UCS sets are the best Sets Lego have ever offered. MMV, the best Castle set. Imperial Flagship, the Greatest ship in its theme. Death Star, large and detailed. The Batmobile is intricate and detailed.

But what is the best?

This poll is woefully incomplete. It's missing Diagon Alley, and one of my personal favorites, the Castle Giant Chess Set. If I checked further, I'd probably find others as well. It's hard to vote in a poll when you're not being presented with all the options.

I have updated the poll, but I wouldnt class the chess set as A D2C set as it is more of a gear set.

I disagree. The Castle Giant Chess Set (not to be confused with other LEGO chess sets) is 100% brick-built, with no preassembled sections. Moreover, it was never sold through retailers other than LEGO's official stores. Heck, it has twice as many parts as the UCS Batmobile, which you did list! Just because it is not a traditional playset or replica doesn't make it less fitting in this poll.

Additionally, this poll is still dreadfully lacking. Every single Ultimate Collectors Series set in the past few years was D2C. So was the Taj Mahal, the Volkswagen Beetle, the Volkswagen Microbus; the list goes on and on. And which Death Star are you even referring to: the UCS version or the minifig-compatible playset? Both, in fact, were D2C.

I can't consider such a poll to have any meaningful results unless it either makes the qualifications to be considered clearer, or includes a fuller list of qualifying sets.

I think the whole concept of D2C sets is a series of sets of such a high quality that you simply can't out and out describe one as better than the rest. They all have multiple strengths in different areas, and they're all equally incredible sets. The rating would have to come down to a person's individual theme preference. Some of them are parts packs, some are display models, some are functional, some are like playsets - the list goes on and on, but all the D2C sets are very strong at at least one thing.

One of the sets I greatly enjoyed in childhood was the BIONICLE Master Builder Set, so I'm voting that.

...What? That's not an option? Well I also liked the Special Edition Naboo Starfighter. Cloud City was also pretty neat. And who can forget the brilliance that was the Sandcrawler?

...Oh, I see, none of those are listed either.

AT-ST? Nope.

Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon?. There's no way that could have been left off the list. Errr... or maybe not.

Modular Buildings? Nope, none of those are on the list, despite them all being D2C sets.

Overall, it would seem there have been more D2C sets than would probably fit in a poll. It would help if there were some rhyme or reason to which ones are included and which are not.

It was between Death Star and MMV for me, but I went with Death Star, simply since it's huge, has a ton of playability, and is really impressive sitting on your shelf.

Can't vote on this myself, it's just impossible. There is like a 5 way tie for the best one I think, with most of the rest tied for second. ALl of them are best in some way.

It was a close competition, but I choose the Green Grocer as the best. Considering it's currently the only one I own, I think it is pretty useable in any city, and it has a wide array of unique pieces.

I think my favourite is 10181 Eiffel Tower 1:300. But it's not in the poll. If you're including the Taj Mahal, you can't exclude the Eiffel Tower and the Tower Bridge...

My vote was for VW Beetle, as it was a set I longed for when I saw it in the catalog, but it was already out of the stores. And it was the set for which I drove an hour to the neighbouring city based on a hint, someone saw it in a small store. And I had to wait there for two hours (during their lunch break) to check in the store if they really have it. I got it in the end, and that's made it a set high on my top list. When it's hard to decide between Green Grocer, the Taj Mahal, the Tower Bridge or MMV, it was pretty clear for me that the Beetle has a special place among these favourite sets.

Noob question: What's D2C?

D2C stands for Direct to Consumer. D2C sets are the sets you can only get through LEGO themselves, not through other toy retailers. These are often large, high quality sets.

^While the definition of D2C is correct, I don't think the second part is exactly true. Toys R Us, Amazon, and other retailers have started stocking and selling D2C sets such as the Super Star Destroyer, USC Death Star, Modulars, Medieval Market Village and many others.

As of now, there are 40 entries in the poll, and by my count, I get about 79 that I can think of. Stuff that I'd put on the list:

4 Factory sets (Garage, Hobby Train, Space Skulls, Star Justice)

11 Legends sets

Space Shuttle Adventure

Maersk Sealand

3 Aircraft (Red Baron, Wright Flyer, Sopwith Camel)

Tower Bridge

Mini Modular Buildings

3 Sculptures (Statue of Liberty, Ollie the dragon, Minifig Statue)

Lunar Lander

Motorized AT-AT

Ultimate TIE Collection

3 Winter Village sets

5 Trains (Santa Fe, BNSF, Santa Fe 1+2 cars, TTX Double Stack)

Train Shed

Grand Carosel

Blacksmith Shop

There are too many great options there. I chose Diagon Alley because I am a huge Potter-head and it was great seeing some of those buildings in lego form. But it was difficult to make that choice since MMV was a fun build. The modulars are amazing. The Eiffel Tower looks sweet. The IFS has yet to be built for me, but I am super excited to do so.

I just hope Lego (and they will) continue to keep busting out these great D2C sets for us fans. Granted, the expense can be a bit difficult to manage at times. But they look so amazing.
