roamingstop Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 I recently stumbled upon the pictures of some long santa fe cars (44 studs? 48 studs?) undertaken by the brickshelf user legocastle. The proportions look much better than the original Lego versions; especially when compared to realife photos. However I cant see how the bases are done; whether it is two 24x6 train bases together; or custom plate solution. Does anyone know who Legocastle is in order to find out more? I especially like the ones for the superdome Quote
cimddwc Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 (Again wishing I hadn't been dark-aged in those Santa Fe times...) Judging by the gaps that are (barely) visible in some places – best seen on the freight car –, it looks like a train base plate in the middle and regular plates at the ends. And the file names tell that most cars are 48 studs long and the mail car 40 studs. :) Quote
Tearloch Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 I don't know if this is the same guy, but I did find this website a few weeks ago with a whole collection of extra long Santa Fe cars along with original pictures and pictures/line drawings of the actual cars. http://www.carneycastle.com/Trains/index.htm Quote

Hechristensen Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 I dont think its just regular plates in each end of the train-plates... How would you attach the bogeys? You need to build those ends out of regular plates and technic-plates...... Quote
roamingstop Posted February 6, 2012 Author Posted February 6, 2012 The owner of the website emailed me to say they are also 8 wide carriages. So definitely custom plates of some sort. Quote

But I consider Technic plates "regular enough" compared to train base plates. Quote
Danger19 Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 This was my favorite train when i was a kid, when i returned to LEGO i couldn't believe they made this model. To bad i had to pay 4 times the original price. Oh well i love it. Quote
Bricks-on-Rails Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Hi, very nice, they fit much better then the original ones. I expect the pictures look better if we can see the whole train. Greetz Martin Quote
