Dakar A Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Well, if you can say anything for this subject matter, you can say that it's great for a multi-sided discussion. Some may chose to ignore it, and focus on the build ( sonicstarlight), some will take it as a harmless joke (LT), and still others will take offense (L@go). It truly shows how diverse a community Eurobricks is, and is a perfect example of how the world is similar, yet still very different. Kudos to you, Bernd, on bringing up a controversial subject, even if deep discussion was not the original intent. I hope to see more discussion- bringing work, and I fell that this opens up whole new doors for what can be achieved with Lego, be it cultural understanding, issues put behind closed doors by society, or even a deeper understanding of ourselves. Philosophy on, Dakar Quote
L@go Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 (edited) Some may chose to ignore it, and focus on the build ( sonicstarlight), some will take it as a harmless joke (LT), and still others will take offense (L@go). Read my original post. I used one sentence to say that I didn't care for the subject, the rest of it is about how I really like the building and the techniques used. And for the record: I didn't take offense. I'm not personally easily offended, and I don't mind sexual references. I just pointed out that I don't think prostitution is something you should treat as a light subject, and I felt that the general tone in the original poster's original post did just that. Building a MOC that deals with prostitution (or whatever you prefer to call it) could be a very good thing, if presented properly. I didn't think this one was, although the MOC in itself is very, very nice. I'll leave it at that. But it ticks me off slightly that people so willingly read much more into a post than what it actually says (like the very mature ironic 'wah wah wah' post on top of this page). Rant over. It's a lovely building! Keep it up, next time I'll probably enjoy both the building and the subject :) Edited February 7, 2012 by L@go Quote
Gabe Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Hi there Bernd; I do like your build and i applaud your controversial subject matter, but possibly there are a couple of things you might want to consider about how it might be viewed: 1. The whole "house for female figs" thing - this reads as code for "a house for women", but it's not actually a house for women. It's a brothel, which is pretty much a house for men and thier appitites. The way your post is worded could thus be construed as offensive to many women, who wouldn't work in a brothel for any money. If it were me i would drop the coy joke and call it a "house of pleasure to relax" or something along those lines - much less chance of ppl getting upset. 2. The interior of the house, despite it's lively reputation, seems rather dead and devoid of humor or incident. Why not show any of the male figs in the house in a state of disrobe? Could be in the shower, arranging payment, getting a massage, being a bit dejected cause they can't get it up, whatever. What about interactions between the workers - sharing clothes, making a cup of tea on a break etc? How about a female client? What about someone in a wheelchair being brought in for thier monthly session of "joy"? (although scratch that, you aren't wheelchair accessible... whoops) Anyway, sorry to go on a bit, your build is technically lovely but i think you have the potential to make it much more thought-provoking and even realistic. Cheers! Quote
Bernd Posted February 7, 2012 Author Posted February 7, 2012 I think we should not discuss the matter any further, we all will probably not agree in every point. And I think this isn't the right place and Lego is not the most-fitted medium for telling any social message (At least I don't intend to, though others may succeed.) I am joyful, that you like the building itself. So it is a house of joy after all. And as some mentioned the toilet, here ist another picture: It's a 2x2 dish, a life preserver, an antenna and three of those clips. By the way, my next moc is medieval with just one woman. And you better don't mess with her. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Great building skill, I love the inner details and the numerous rooms. The Japanese room has a realistic door and so the customers of this house. No comment about the subject ...but a comment on the MOC: totally cool! Quote

I'm sorry, I should have re-read your posts, my mistake! How about a female client? What about someone in a wheelchair being brought in for thier monthly session of "joy"? By the way, my next moc is medieval with just one woman. And you better don't mess with her. I'm very much looking forward to that. You've got great building skills. Quote
