boxcar3 Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I was wondering if there was any news on the 2007 ootp harry potter sets. I hope they make a st. mungos set! *skull* *skull* *y* Quote
UltraPrime Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Isn't there a big toyfair around Feb time? I would expect news round about then. Quote
gylman Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Seems like Harry Potter Lego is probably finished. http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=166702 Based on the lousy product from last year (except Graveyard Duel), not surprising. No facts though... no one is sure. Quote
gusmoore17 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I'm hoping to see Lego sets from HPOOTP!! HP fans and of course the ones who have been buying the HP sets these years do have to point as guilty the Lego Company for making so few of the GoF sets, and it's their fault if the sets didn't sell well. Anyway, did the sets really sell that bad?? At least in Mexico they were very popular and sold very very quickly, you couldn't find them for christmas, even they were released in november 15th, 2005!!!! (I remember this because of the expectation they caused in me, but didn't know they were going to produce such expectation all around the country) There are very very good parts of the new movie which will make an improve on the HP sets only if TLC really get ready for that. Hoping to *sweet* Quote
oo7 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=166702 and they've just released photos online of Umbridge and Dumbledore's Army and Luna Lovegood, ??? If there has been pics released of course there will be sets, but if pics have been released how come they haven't found their way here yet??? Quote
UltraPrime Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 ??? If there has been pics released of course there will be sets, but if pics have been released how come they haven't found their way here yet??? The pics he refered to were movie stills, not Lego. Quote

For real... they NEVER even had shelf tags at the place that sells Lego in this town. It's not like they came in and were sold... they never arrived! If not for one of the Lego catalogs in the mail, I wouldn't even have known they'd been made. And that's sad, because there were times I bought other, non-Lego toys but really wanted the mermaid set I'd seen. Quote
oo7 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Ah, ok sorry, that wasn't very clear, but now it makes sense. Quote

JoeMI6 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I considered buying some of the GoF stuff, but as they were all fleshies, I kind of got put off. And that Hungarian Horntail was just one huge load of molded plastic rubbish. I think the HP license has gone downhill recently. Quote
snefroe Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 i can't imagine Lego to stop producing HP sets. soon we'll have a new film and the last book will create a huuge hype when it's released (isn't that next year?); the last hp film was a stunning success in terms of box office results, so it's not as if hp isn't successful anymore... it's just a question of what sets they'll produce. if they're lousy, then it won't sell. Quote
Holly Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I'll be really disappointed if there are no more HP sets - I hadn't heard the rumours that there aren't going to be any more. The HP licence is mostly responsible for my renewed interest in Lego in general and I've spent the past couple of years collecting every single one of the sets from the first four movies - it didn't even occur to me that there wouldn't be any more (though, like most people, I was disappointed in the GOF offerings in comparison to the fantastic sets from the first three films). I've been daydreaming about which bits of OOTP Lego would immortalise in plastic. Oh dear..... Holly Quote
gylman Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 It has been suggested that part of the reason is not only poor sales (everything but Graveyard Duel has sold poorly as far as I can tell - they have been on the shelves for a year, and not moving here in Toronto, nor at Shop@Home). Also, the target audience for HP is moving past the target audience for Lego. As the series progresses it becomes more teen-oriented - scarier, romance, etc etc. Harry Potter is growing up, and so is the target audience. My own kids lost interest in HP in the third book. I'm sure they will pick up again in a few years, but the point is that the current episodes are not for little kids, but Lego mostly is. Quote
SupaaSayajin Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Well they should rather bring out either some Lord of the Rings Lego or some Pirates of the Carribean Lego, that would rock way more than Harry Potter X-D Quote
El Bucanero Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Well they should rather bring out either some Lord of the Rings Lego or some Pirates of the Carribean Lego, that would rock way more than Harry Potter X-D Agreed!! Quote
WhiteHexagon Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I think Mega blox has the pirates of the carabean license. I saw some in TRU the other day at least I think I did. The HP bus is half price here now (20EUR) so I got one two weeks ago. apart from yukie fleshies the purple bricks are really nice and it was a good set for windows :) Dont think I'll buy anymore sets though, a bit too <insert that tiresome argument>.. sam89 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 This article on action-figure.com says that they will be releasing OOTP sets: http://www.action-figure.com/index.php?name=News&catid=46 However, the article was written a whlile ago. Quote
Holly Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Thank you Sam89 - some hope at least! Megabloks do have the Pirates of the Carribbean licence - I've just come back from Disneyland Paris and those sets were everywhere :-/ Holly Quote
KMOI Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I've seen around here as well. They're not that big around here, but they certainly exist. I don't like them mostly because they miggitized Sparrow, Turner and Swan. And don't get me started with Narnia! Sure, they pay close attention to facial accuracy, but it makes everyone look distorted. Heck, they made Jessica Alba look ugly! Ungh! I like their ideas of sets though. THey have minifigure sets, so you can make an army of Sparrows or Davy Jones. Still, with LEGO's new Clone and Droid packs, those Megabloks products will be blown straight out of the water! While the article is old, I think it still rings true. With Lego finally heading in the right direction, I'd say these new sets will be truly mindblowing! Quote
El Bucanero Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I think Mega blox has the pirates of the carabean license. I saw some in TRU the other day at least I think I did. But why can't LEGO have it? Dead Man's Chest was a succes, I'm sure that it would be very appealing. Quote
KMOI Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Guess they never went for it. Besides, after Megabloks got it, it's pretty well much game over. :'-( While it would have been awesome to have those sets, I'm sure LEGO has a good reason. Perhaps the loyalties were a tad high? Quote
boxcar3 Posted October 16, 2006 Author Posted October 16, 2006 I remember seeing on some toy website that had toyfair 06 pics that lego wasn't going to make anymore harry potter legos until the order of the phoenix. Quote
El Bucanero Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I'm sure LEGO has a good reason. Why don't we ask them that reason? X-D Quote
alex54 Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I think Gylman is right. But I hope to see some new sets with TOOTP (the order of the poenix for people who don't know harry potter world, the 6th book). The Sirius' house will be very cool! HP sets are good ones for city fan, because it is easy to use them in a town. So I Hope... Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 (edited) hmm, you can find HP sets in TRU. all the gof sets are there. the mermaid, the dumstrang ship, etc...all there. hmm, come to think of it, i never bought a HP or technic set....yet. :-P There's only 3 stores here that sell Lego... a drug store with overpriced Bionicle figures from 4 years ago, a supermarket that gets shipments in once in a blue moon, and Walmart. V__V You might say I'm screwed, save for Shop@Home. Mr Tiber Posted Today, 08:44 AMWhy don't we ask them that reason? laugh2.gif If I recall, didn't Lego get shafted somehow by Disney, leading to record-low sales one year? Probably some bad blood between them... which is fine by me. The less Disney in Lego, the better. You don't need..."them"... to make good pirate sets. (They can do it cheaper, too).
