harry27 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) It just had to be done, I recently decided to off load an old school bmx and put the cash to good use. So I made a wish list, a small one but it contained 2 of my most coverted trains of all time, the 7740 intercity 12v masterpiece and the 9v metroliner. The amount of hours I'd stare at them in the catologue is uncountable. But now the wait is finally over and with owning more 9v than 12v the choice was obvious. I would like to say a very big thank you to Ivor Williams of the Zedfactory @bricklink and highly rated in my opinion. Just waiting on extra motor I won on ebay then I,ll post some more pics, I just had to share this with every one! I feel like a kid again!!!!!! Edited January 28, 2012 by harry27 Quote
Jeff Huntington Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) Congratulations! I felt the same way when I was finally able to get this in 2002 when it was the first LEGO Legends set. Man, how I wish they'd have kept that program going. Not only is it a great train but I thought it was a great build as well. Now you have to try to find a Club Car or two to go with it! harry27 Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 I'm hoping to build it tonight and I cant wait, as for the club car I've seen a couple come up for sale on ebay recently but they are far to over priced I'll have to look on bricklink and go from there. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 This is one of my top, favorite trains of all time (I'm a 9V buff)! I got the Legends version for my 15th birthday with the club car and ran it for years. Trying to get one off eBay or Bricklink at a good price is almost impossible. I always wanted a second club car but, only found a good deal with an eBay listing of it and the train for $150. No one else bid, so I had to... Since then I've checked periodically for that car but, they are ridiculously priced. Still even on it's own this train is a gem I feel like a kid again!!!!!! ... that did it's job Quote
Legobrandon Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Lucky you... I've always wanted this set but never had the money to purchase it. At times I have dreams about finding this set at a thrift store for $5... is that weird? Congrats! Can't wait to see some photographs. Quote
legomaniac83 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Nice grab! I too got lucky in 2002 and got the Legends release. It has never been taken apart since I built it! Enjoy the build! Quote
medib Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 how much did you pay for it? I bought 1 in box before they re-released it as a legend for almost $300. And bought the companion club car, for over $100. Congrats. This is one of my favorite train sets. I hope you thoroughly enjoy yours. Quote
Remydodge Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I can relate. I bought a MISB Metroliner from a well known Bricklink seller that was selling his tremendous collection last year. I could only dream of this train as a child, so as an adult, I had to buy it. I own most 9v trains and all the PF trains(converted to 9v)...and NOTHING compares to the Metroliner, in my opinion. Watching it go around my layout is magical. They just don't make trains like that anymore... Congratulations. Quote
fyrmedhatt Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Congrats on acquiring the dream! The Metroliner is my favorite Lego passenger train (with the 7740 being second), and it's one set I've wanted for a very long time, in fact I remember drooling over the set as a four year old when it just came out, and again I remember seeing it during my dark ages without having the guts to get it. It's surprisingly affordable as a set despite it's status as a classic, so I really should pick it up! Anyways, enjoy building the set and living the childhood dream! Quote
mikka says Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 congrats man, im hoping to break even and try and obtain some older designs, unfortunately seeing as a certain 7750 is Waaaaaaaaaay... out of my price range, im planning to just get parts from bricklink and make do with cheaper items that are more readily available, not to mention PF-ing the engine. but wow, ive gawked at the metroliner for too long also....must try and snap one up.... thanks for the reminder ;) Quote
harry27 Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Hi all, I've just finished putting her together and I've got to say its nice!, I did'nt even know it had working front lights and the (fake) motor boogie at the rear of the train is really cool and has given me some good ideas. I just can't believe the condition of the bricks there still super glossy and sharp the only concern was putting the decals on I was'nt sure about making copys or not, this truly is the best set I've ever had and if you get the chance take my advice and get one! don't leave it as long as I did. WesternOutlaw Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Great find/buy Harry. Good luck finding the observation car. Quote
