So after the 1-2 years of LOTR/Hobbit sets, what do you think we will get next?

I'm hoping for a forest men/robin hood motif, since LOTR and Kingdoms have already expended the fantasy/regular castle themes. Perhaps we'll see a return to vikings (not crazy about it) or something entirely new like Romans vs. Barbarians.

Also do you think we'll get a pirates or western theme after POTC? I'm betting western.

I hope for something new like romans, I would like to see a more historic Egypt theme set in like cleopatra/pharao times.

like the castle sets but set in egypt.

I don't know, but I think "1-2 years of LOTR/Hobbit sets" is a bit conservative, considering the forthcoming movies themselves will be running a couple back-to-back years, and that the theme is surely popular enough to sustain at least one or two more waves after the second Hobbit film's release. Certainly, it's pretty much given that it'll be at least 2 years, at a bare minimum. I think it's going to be more like "2-3 years," and perhaps even 3 1/2 or 4.

I really hope they will release roman/greek theme.

just imagine, colloseum scene; gladiator and a lion watched by the cezar and roman warrior :sweet:

I also keep my fingers crossed for the return of the falcon theme

Romans vs Egyptians vs. Barbarians? Lego castle theme's always have more than one faction

Your right, I forgot there are 2 hobbit movies. Damn it's going to be a long wait for the next castle theme. I hope it's only 2 years. Maybe the new castle theme will show up before Hobbit is over.

If they bring back Kingdoms they can do two new factions;

Falcon Knights

and

Forestmen

I think are the best choices and some accompany sets for the original 2 waves.

But while LOTR is running I hope for a different historical theme such as an ancient theme involving Greek or China or Japan etc.

I agree this would be really nice to have both the Falcon Knights and Forestment return in some form.

Yeah, I pretty much agree with you on this.

I would like to see a Roman or Greek theme and a bring back of the Ninja theme.

Ninja's driving motorcycles and helicopters not cutting it for you? lol

I'd bet real money they wont' be doing Ninja/Asian stuff until long after Ninjago goes away

A Greek/Roman/Spartan/Eygptian/Barbarian (something along those lines) type theme is something new Lego has never done before that I think might happen one day. The Spartan and Roman mining's might be a pre-cursor of things to come.

Still when was the last time we had forest men? early 1990? Forest men vs. black falcon would be cool. But I'm sure Lego will do some market research and find out that kids want space knights or something silly.

I think the thing I loved most about kingdoms was it had such an understated simplicity and very clean design. Nothing fancy or over the top. And I fear maybe that has something to do with why it didn't stay as long :(

I'd love:

1. Like many have said, a forestmen theme... with beautiful forests and amazing hideouts/fortresses

2. A greek theme

3. An Egyptian theme (in their times, not mummy hunting..) with the houses of those times, etc.

4. A System Disney theme! :cry_happy:

I assume they wil do something after LotR, to contrast the unique and fantasy aspects of LotR. Best-case scenario would be something like Kingdoms, worst-case scenario something like KK2. I hope it wont be the new Falcons, as I don’t find their shield compatible with the old Falcons. I’m not too keen on forestmen either (I find them too cartoonish).

Here follows a heavily edited version of my post from last September, in a thread discussing which direction we’d like Castle to go (before we knew about LotR):

I’d like to see a Mideastern-style subtheme. A simple way to avoid a "clash of civilizations" controversy could be to make it independent of the current „European“ factions and set it in its own universe with 2 or more Mideastern kingdoms, ali baba style bandits, etc.

In the same vein, I’d like a far eastern subtheme similar to the ninjas of ’98, but based more on China. Of course it wouldn’t actually be set in China, just like the past themes aren’t set in an actual European country.

The same would go for a classical antiquity theme which could be set in a fictional land (Atlantis...? – yeah, I know the names‘s been used) that would simply have a Greek feel to it (figs, armor, torsos, etc.). Ditto any Amerindian or other subthemes.

I doubt a Roman theme; The Romams didnt have a rich mythological world independent of the real world, so such a theme would have to be set in the real world, which would be too controversial, I think. After all, bothe the Romans and their enemy civilization have contemporary cultural heirs, who might take offense as being shown as the bad guy.

As for an Egyptian theme, it needs conflict. Who would they fight? Hittites or Sea Peoples? Too obscure. Romans? See above. Supernatural creatures? Possibly, but that would be too similar to PQ...

A well executed dark age / barbarian subtheme would also be welcome, though I was sorely disappointed with the Viking line.

A bandit/outlaw faction similar to Wolfpack would be cool; I remember someone suggesting a „villagers vs raiders“ subtheme some months back. I would prefer them to be more rag-tag than the Wolfpack with their smart uniforms. This subtheme would include ambush sets like MVR, an outlaw hideout/camp, and, of course, plenty of civilian minifigs!

Thinking about it what if they took the Atlantis theme in that direction? Like the divers find a hidden antique town somehow under the sea. I don't mind how, it could be through a time portal going back to the heydays of Atlantis. It would be a weird twist and is extremely unlikely but still one can dream.

I loved the City of Atlantis set for that sunken style, but the rest of the submarines and such were boring. If they concentrated more on the ancient city stuff, this would be great.

Forgot a Western theme would be nice to see too again.

Oh, heck yes! Hee-haww and touch my grand-pa!

I hope we get Black Falcons and Forestmen

Both factions could be part of a "Kingdoms 2" line/theme, with new sets for the Lion Knights and the Dragons too.

I think the Dragon Knights were just great, but Lego really let the faction down -- their buildings were just lacking!

If/when we get the Black Falcons, I hope we get modern versions of great sets from the past like 6074 Black Falcons Fortress -- much like 7096 King's Castle looked like an "updated" version of 6080.

But more, MANY more minifigs in each set, please!

Man...this conversation really makes me sad that they have (for now) retired the kingdoms/castle theme. It was always my favorite.

Me too. :cry_sad:

No. I'm saying that Historic Themes needs a sequel to Castle to get any of my money for their non-LotR themes.

I don't think they'd do anything like that. They are not going to to create competition from within by releasing similar style sets that are non-Lord of the Rings kits; not after ponying up for the licensing like that.
