highlandcattle Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 (edited) So I'm saving up to buy a BNSF and a caboose (the TTX will follow later). And what do I do? I buy the Scorpion Palace (7418). Granted it was only 31 euro but it has so many useless pieces (the boardgame,a big ball and an elephant). I will make a beautifull sikh temple out of it and it will make my city more multicultural :'-) Edited October 10, 2006 by Hobbes Quote

xwingyoda Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 No megablock !! Discussion on what ?? You bought Scorpion Palace good for you !! You did not buy the best train sets, shame on you !! *yoda* Quote
Hobbes Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 What is the purpose of all these threads: discussion! You should give us something to discuss, though. Your thread reads like "Snow is white, and i made a green spot in it." Umm... yeah, well... On the other hand, we have sort of a discussion now, just not about what you wanted... Quote
Starwars4J Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 This would go well in the "What did you buy today?" thread in Community ;-) Quote
highlandcattle Posted October 10, 2006 Author Posted October 10, 2006 Okay how about this discussion: Incorperating other system sets in your town ! Discuss I've already tried it with the Harry potter quidditch shop but it doesn't look quite finished yet! Quote
xwingyoda Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 In that sense, I fully agree !! A sikh temple in a city would be sweet IMO ;-) I bought the chinese fortress to incorporate somehow in the future in my layout ;-) *yoda* Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Here's a question... has anyone ever made a long train dealie where the track hits different time periods from steam train to futuristic? Be neat if you could park it, then switch tracks to release a train from that time period until you hit the next era. Ew... that's a bit abstract... Quote
EXO-CHAMP Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 You could use Exo-Force hair for crazy teenagers, rockers, punkers, scaters, circus clowns. Not worth an entire set though, but maybe you could find them on bricklink. Quote
Hobbes Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Okay how about this discussion:Incorperating other system sets in your town ! Better. I've changed the thread title accordingly :-) I've already tried it with the Harry potter quidditch shop but it doesn't look quite finished yet! I plan to incorporate Pirates (a shipwrecked SES with Divers, and a modified Eldorado Fortress as a seaside restaurant) into my city. Haven't started yet, though. Also the 4888 Designer set is easily integratable as a Divers station. Then I have a Fort Legorado which I could use as some sort of old town center, will see about that... I used to play with my brother's 6073 and my trains when I was a kid. That wasn't really "integrating" but rather mixing themes. And it worked well, it didn't look "wrong" to me. I've always liked that. Here's a question... has anyone ever made a long train dealie where the track hits different time periods from steam train to futuristic? I have thought about something similar actually... Be neat if you could park it, then switch tracks to release a train from that time period until you hit the next era.Ew... that's a bit abstract... Nope, it isn't ;-) Since I have Pirates and Western sets I wanted to use Fort Legorado's gate as some sort of "gate through time" where the trains would pass into other timelines. My new layout doesn't fit that setup anymore, though. Maybe if I have a house with more room once... ;-) Quote

Hinckley Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Incorperating other system sets in your town !Discuss Okay, I want to put a spaceship in my castle and have Harry Potter drive the fire engine. That would be neat. Here's a question... has anyone ever made a long train dealie where the track hits different time periods from steam train to futuristic?Be neat if you could park it, then switch tracks to release a train from that time period until you hit the next era. Ew... that's a bit abstract... I would love to do that! All I'd have to do is buy a new house where I could fit all my train dealies... Snow is white, and i made a green spot in it. Okay, if you made the snow green, you should really see a doctor... I have to confess something, I'm making fun of this thread. But not in a cruel way, in a loving, I'm-your-older-brother-busting-your-chops way. ;-) See? I even winked! Quote
captaintau Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 I'll just have my LULS Darth Vader wander through your town and decapitate anyone that doesn't swear instant allegience to the Empire That's how other system themes fit in with town. Mwah-hah-hahhhh Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Ooh, brainstorm. Instead of parking a train and then manually activating the one for the next era, you run the train into a strong, cleverly designed switch that switches tracks automatically! X-O I so have to get me some 9V trains sometime... Quote
Section8 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Let's see...from my youth I had a small collection of non-Town sets compared to my large town collection and I always tried to incorporate them into my town. For instance, Saber Island became the old watchtower in the town harbor that was still standing, and the BSB was a docked museum. The space sets were models at an amusement park, and once I had them be experimental aircraft. Castle sets were much harder, aside from the old town square or renaissance fairs. I usually knocked them down and used the wall parts to build town models. Quote
alex54 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I integrated some non city set in my town like HP, spiderman and batman. Ok, it is easy because they are not so different themes... Maybe I will integrate a castle part in my town, but I don't want to shake my other old sets with my city sets. In fact, when I bought the arkam asilum, I bought it with the idea to integarte it, contrary to my castle and pirate sets... Stupid feeling! Quote
osakana Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I will show you my layout in a few weeks (after I move it), but I got some mixed themes in my City. First of all, Castle works great - gives you the feeling of classic Town Square set and nice history touch to the city. Exo-force - mecha look nice on the street, giving you anime Patlabor style - and you could repleace exo-pilots with policemen. Having starwars droids walking around make no difference then - it is just kind of "near future" city. With 90s cars like "Night patrol" it is all right. And then I thought a nice thing to do would be building robot/mecha factory. Then I'm using modified 7900 for Stealth Hunter transporter. In this robot factory I am using " 30556 Lime Technic Racer Launcher" (from Crash 'Em Racers) as a "power generator". Last thing I did was to mix classic space theme in the city - I got "Classic space monument" on town square and have built "Portal", where classic space guys can teleport themselves to my city. Quote

Minifig Lecturer Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 I think an okay way to integrate castle/carribean sets with a modern town is to split them by water and if desired create a bridge between the two. The overall result can make the castle/carribean sets look like rural countryside outside the city and not look stupid. Well I am trying this at the moment, I have improvements to make, I will post a couple of updated pics soon. Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 osakana, have you moved your town yet??? Last thing I did was to mix classic space theme in the city - I got "Classic space monument" on town square and have built "Portal", where classic space guys can teleport themselves to my city. I wish I could teleport myself to the kitchen right now Quote
casewindu Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 You could use Exo-Force hair for crazy teenagers, rockers, punkers, scaters, circus clowns. Not worth an entire set though, but maybe you could find them on bricklink. i was thinking of using those exo force mini sets like tis dark green one i got as sort of army machines and i am going to put them like fighting some escaped dinosaur or something. I also use things Like Darth Vader just going into a shop to buy the paper! i love making my Dad spend ages finding them all! >:-) i am also making a litle Rocky to climb up the town hall steps and spiderman will surely be in there somewhere! post pics when its finished! (warning: because the STUPID brumingham lego shop closed down i gant get many new bricks so this could take a while! ;-) Quote
rriggs Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 (edited) Good for you, and what is the purpose of this thread ? :-| This seems a bit harsh? Anyway, when I build a Town/City (I'm doing one right now) I always include some Castle and Pirate features. I incorporate them by building them with the Castle sets right in the middle of the town creating an Old Town area and generally put the Pirate sets at the coastal edge of the town as the remnants of an historic dock area. I then add tourists and police minifigs (on guard) to the old buildings to integrate them. Some Pirate & Castle soldiers are usually on ceremonial guard duties too. The 6067 Town Inn makes a great pub for modern minifigs to hang out in! Edited August 10, 2008 by rriggs Quote
maiq the liar Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 i incorporated hogwarts as a small mansion. Quote
welcomestranger Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Okay, if you made the snow green, you should really see a doctor... It could be worse, they could be yellow spots... Quote
