MattTheLegoman Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 (edited) I consider this of interest to Train Tech I call it the Retro Ghan, I have no idea what model it is. Reference taken from this picture taken by my dad in an Adelaide Museum. Edited January 20, 2012 by TheBrickster Thanks! Quote
kyphur Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Here's some more info about your exact prototype and it's class in general. Reminds me a lot of the US EMD-F7 class. For some build ideas you might want to look at the old Lego Set #10020-1 (Santa Fe Super Chief) for build ideas. I think you've got a good start but the roof line seems too sharp, needs curved edges. MattTheLegoman Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 Wow the Wikipedia article has the same train! I wanted to improve the design of the Santa-fe. But I will be trying some more curves in the roof. Carriages are next (But will take some extensive designing time). Too bad I cannot build this lovely Australian Train in real bricks. There are some real colour shenanigans for imaginary parts in this build. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 (edited) I like the red & white livery of this train! Edited January 22, 2012 by LEGO Train 12 Volts Quote
peterab Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I like the red & white livery of this train! It's actually red and silver, but I agree it's a nice livery. The silver doesn't photograph well so it's easy to mix it up. Quote

peterab Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 (edited) How about Metalic White? It's more like metallic grey in real life. The restored engine is definitely not white, and the photos of them during their working lives look even darker, though that could be because they were mostly pretty dirty. I doubt they would have been washed very often since they ran in mostly very arid areas where water is precious. I've been considering building 'The Overland' which had the same colour scheme and if I did I'd use one of the metallic greys if I could, otherwise light or even dark bluish grey.
