Paul B Technic Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 This is the start of my train layout. My plan is to build the following on it: - Train control tower - Storage shed - Take away shop - Train workshop - Break room / office I spent quite a bit of time last night making sure I was happy with the track before I start building the buildings, I think it is about the best track layout I can do with the space and pieces I have. kyphur Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Nice start... You know that siding on the back side is way too close to your main line, right? With 2 curves you can fix that: Put a curve between your two switches, that will move the long siding to a better angle inside the main line. A second curve on the siding of the second switch should get the "crane" siding back in line also. Quote

Thanks for the feedback, I don't have any more track so I am stuck with what I have shown in the pictures. I am going to move the long siding in a little bit. Quote
JopieK Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Well if you don't have that many trains than it is not a problem I think (that your tracks are too close)... Can you also extend your table, I think this will become full very soon! Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 It does seem as some people have said that the siding is a little close. However I note that you have plans to fix this. It can be very hard when there is limited space. I had a thought about maybe making the oval a bit thinner by taking out the straight and putting a siding on the outside? The benefit of this is that then even if it is a dead end (Which I guess most sidings are.) then you can cover it in a tunnel entrance or something so as to give the impression of your train disappearing on some long journey even if in reality it is parked in the tunnel. Just a thought. Quote

Nikola Bathory Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Other than the pink part in the train control room, it looks pretty nice, I must say! It's great to see old style buildings, the '80s LEGO sets are great. Quote

WesternOutlaw Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Paul: We have pictures of your layout in this topic, your blog site with pictures of your layout in another topic, and now a video of pictures of your layout. I'm going to merge all three topics together for those interested in seeing pictures of your layout. EDIT: I actually took a little time to watch your video and looked at the pictures posted on your blog site. My suggestion would be to take some hot soapy water and clean your roadplates and baseplates. Next, perhaps press down on the sections of buildings that do not fit together tightly, like this one: A clean and organized presentation helps draw others to your creations. I say this constructively. Quote
Paul B Technic Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 Thank you for merging them, some forums I am part of prefer to have things split up. I will keep that in mind for the future. In that photo I had removed the roof and then put it back on but had not pushed it down, I will fix that up as it was something I didn't notice myself. I am planning on giving it all a good clean once I am happy with the general layout. Paul Quote
Paul B Technic Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 Hi, I am in the process of building up a train layout with some buildings to help add to the overall theme of it. I have built the following buildings: -Crane loaded (from set 7939) - Office on poles - Take away shop - Union office - Works Depot - Train Inspector / OH&S office - Train Control tower. What are some ideas of other buildings that would fit in with this theme? I donβt have a lot of space left so smaller type buildings would work best. Paul Quote
