DarkShadow73 Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 What is the deal with TRU? They had prices at a normal level for a while, but then they jack them WAY past MSRP through Lego S@H or Amazon. Three such examples: 9395 Tow Truck, MSRP $69.99 USD, TRU wants $87.99; 9394 Jet Plane, MSRP $49.99, TRU wants $60.99; 8070 Supercar, MSRP $119.99, TRU wants $131.99. This is ridiculous... Quote
CMP Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 When did they ever sell anything at MSRP? That's normal for TRU. Quote

Paul Boratko Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Ever since Toys R Us started running the Buy one get 50% off sale every week they last year, they jacked up the prices on everything... It used to be certain sets, but now it is just about everything.... You can still save a few dollars when they run the buy get 50% off, but not as much as you actually should... Quote
Portstevo Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Think yourself lucky that you don't live in Australia. From Lego.com: 9395 - not yet available 9394 - not yet available 8070 - 199.99 AUD which is roughly 207 USD I would be happy if I could go to a local store and buy these sets at the prices you quote. Kronos Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I won't shop @ TRU anymore. If I want something I'll get it through LEGO S@H. I might consider it if they run a GREAT sale, otherwise I'll just order it and wait. Quote

Thelonious monk Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 (edited) I bought the 8070 for 69€ and one week later it was 'on sale' for 89,99€!! Edited January 18, 2012 by Thelonious monk Quote
KEvron Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 heh. right before they went belly-up, i used to get great deals at k-b toys. i'm gonna miss those chumps! KEvron Quote
BobBongo1895 Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I can only talk for germany. Im my opinion TrU is killing a lot of the small toyshops during the last years. They swamped the german market massive with low prices. But now, there is not real opposition anymore. They got the advantage of being a kind of monopolist at the toy sector. The only enemy they have to fear is the internet. My 2 cents to this topic and I´m really missing some of the small shops. Quote
DarkShadow73 Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 The thing is I bought the 9397 Tow Truck when it first arrived at TRU and it was only $69.99, the Lego MSRP, then I decided to buy a couple extra for resell later and they were $87.99 towards Xmas, luckily they had a BOGO 50% off, so it made it worth it but still... When did they ever sell anything at MSRP? That's normal for TRU. @BobBongo: Here in USA, TRU seems to concentrate more on City and other themes, but Technic is I am guessing not a real big market as it is in Europe. They will have limited quantities and bring some in when released, but only the smaller sets, I found 1 8043 Excavator in the summer, but they were not stocking many of the medium size to larger sets from 2nd half 2011 whereas Europe's Amazon and TRU had most of them in stock It appears they only stock a few around the holidays but only for a limited time, Technic is a rare find at most TRU's in the States except the much smaller sets. I found a couple 8435's from 2004 or 2005 on the shelf at KB on clearance before the stores finally closed permanently... heh. right before they went belly-up, i used to get great deals at k-b toys. i'm gonna miss those chumps! KEvron @Camaro365: I agree there, S@H is best, but I have had trouble with delivery with them where I live, and the nearest Lego store is about 150 miles south or east of me in Michigan, USA. I like to just pick things up off the shelf instead or paying shipping costs and TRU has most in stock, but the shipping prices through them are astronomical. I won't shop @ TRU anymore. If I want something I'll get it through LEGO S@H. I might consider it if they run a GREAT sale, otherwise I'll just order it and wait. Quote
Mas Bambang Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 In Qatar, TRU charge my card incredibly huge. 8109 at about 719QR (Qatar Riyal). Average 1US$ is about 3.64-3.65QAR, just do simple calculation and you will get a 8109 for 197US$. Nut prize but my son like it too much. Quote
