Burf2000 Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Some of you may or may not know about this project, I first saw a topic about giant wheels a few months back and got inspired by one person post (S**t forgetten his name). Then I posted about a turn table issue which lots of people helped with (many thanks, especially to Alasdair Ryan). Now as you can see (sorry for the shaking at the start, it goes quickly) it moves really well. I did have to have some support wheels however its swings and roundabout to remove them. Less wheels, move leaning, more chance of crashing etc. It did go head first in to an Christmas tree and require a lot of fixing before the support wheels where added. Quote
timslegos Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Wow that robot is huge! What are the dimensions? tim Quote
Burf2000 Posted January 17, 2012 Author Posted January 17, 2012 Wow that robot is huge! What are the dimensions? tim 21cm x 77cm(width) 104cm (height). Pretty chuffed with it. Oh and not forgotten the video you want :) its on my desk! Quote
Smrgol Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 That is one nice robot Are you planning on going bigger or do you think larger would cause more stability problems? Quote
Burf2000 Posted January 18, 2012 Author Posted January 18, 2012 I think I could make a bigger one. The next thing to work out is if I should plate it or not? Quote
Smrgol Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I think I could make a bigger one. The next thing to work out is if I should plate it or not? I would have thought that plates would give it more strength and give you the extra size we all demand Quote
Burf2000 Posted January 18, 2012 Author Posted January 18, 2012 I would have thought that plates would give it more strength and give you the extra size we all demand So you think I should plate the main body? Quote
timslegos Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 So you think I should plate the main body? If you have enough plates I would say go for it. Although will the extra weight cause issues? Tim Quote
Burf2000 Posted January 18, 2012 Author Posted January 18, 2012 If you have enough plates I would say go for it. Although will the extra weight cause issues? Tim I might give that a go tonight, I will let you know mate Quote
KEvron Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 ....if I should plate it or not if you need the stability, then of course. otherwise, the skeletal look works just fine for me. i like things stripped down to just their essentials. KEvron Quote

KEvron SO if you had this robot, except taking it apart. what would you do mate? I do plan to make the head better. Quote
basbase Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Maybe you can add some more beams/bricks to make it look a bit more covered and strengthen it, but keep de frame visible. Or make it wear a t-shirt . Also, could you make some closeups of the turntable connections? I've become a bit curious about how you implemented them. Quote

I did a topic on the turntable issue http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=64260&st=30&p=1163117&hl=turntable&fromsearch=1entry1163117 I love the t-shirt idea, fantastic! Quote
KEvron Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 what would you do mate? well, like i say, i like to keep things to just the essentials. i always try to avoid superfluous elements. the down side, of course, is that my pieces tend to lack much in the way of aesthetics, other than symmetry. i let function more or less determine the form, not that i have much option in the matter. if anything, i'd put the "brains" in the head. give it some purpose. maybe make it modular, too. Burf2000 Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 Thanks mate, I will give it some thought Quote
