I tried, and failed many times last year to enter in the lego technic challenge. one of the creations i built for that challenge was this, a futuristic VTOL aircraft. it was loosely based off of the NERV VTOL's in the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. as for functions, the large engines are controlled via a complex joystick mechanism, and the landing gear extend via a linear actuator and worm gear mechanism. Please don't ask for more pictures, it's been take apart and all i have is this.

Try to put in some functions and stuff, i think this looks like a good base for another go
