Guest Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 I've been working on a Lego price comparison website to compare all the discounted Lego deals for the US. I'd like some advice on what other US Lego websites should be included? Currently it has: Lego S@H, Amazon US, Target, B&N, Yoyo, Sears / Kmart, Toys r us Still a work in progress, but would appreciate any feedback: http://www.bricksalefinder.com/ Thanks, Lawrence James Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) Maybe eBay? Though it's not a retailer, it does have completive prices with sets currently available from other retailers Edited January 8, 2012 by Leg Godt Gud Quote
Vindicare Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Also, Bricklink. It's not a retailer either...I think. Quote
slovakiasteph Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Wow, this is nice! Thanks! I was looking for something like this (we have one for board games). Quote
Dfenz Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 This is a great idea if the technology can deliver up to date prices. Of course I'd like to see country specific versions so that those outside the US could benefit. No doubt a list of retailers with prices available online could be compiled for each country if you wanted to go international. Quote

Its a great idea and it would be more useful if you include applicable coupons, sales, or promotions at the retailer that can be applied to that particular item. A lot of people plan out their purchase to stack coupons or promotions to maximize the savings. Quote
Guest Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Thanks for the comments. I may consider including ebay/bricklink in the future. I haven't for now because of the wide variety of shipping costs and difficulty of ensuring the sets are BNIB so prices can be accurately compared. Showing coupons is a good idea, i'll put it on the list. Quote
Darkdragon Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Pretty cool site. You should probably add WalMart to the list, it's usually on part with Amazon as far as prices but sometimes even lower. Quote
Yucca Patrol Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 (edited) this is really great. I've seen one for Amazon that is pretty good, but this one has lots of sites. However, the other Amazon-only price checker site is picking up Amazon items that your site is not? Thanks for making this. I'll check it daily! Also, a price per piece column would be handy. And it took me a while to discover the bricklink icon on the right side of the chart. Edited March 5, 2012 by Yucca Patrol Quote
MCNwakeboard Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Great looking site and it looks good on the iphone as well. How often do the prices update? When I was on, the site indicated that it was "last updated: 56 minutes ago" so it seems fairly often. Also, the search feature is great because it is fast. One cosmetic detail that I noticed was that the set headings seem to overlap on the search box so it took me a second to find it, though the problem doesn't show up on my iphone so maybe it is just my old laptop that has issues. Should be a easy fix. Quote
Mothy Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I'm wondering how you grab the prices and other info from these websites, it's gotta require at least some sort of maintenance to add new sets to the list? The only thing I can think of including in the information is piece count and possibly minifigure count. But thanks to this I might go pick up that Transport Truck Creator set for the heck of it. $14 for over 270 pieces is kind of hard to pass up. Quote

With regard to update speed, most of them are every hour, some are every 2 hours, depends on how frequently the store updates its prices. It's almost totally automated, it's mostly algorithm based. Edited March 5, 2012 by ljames28 Quote
BrickBox Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 That looks like a very handy site, very clear and easy to use. Thanks for putting your effort into this. Do you have any plans yet on including retailers based outside the US? Quote

Thank you, if the US version of the site became more popular I'd definitely be interested in country specific versions, but because the traffic is currently so low it's difficult to justify the effort unfortunately. I have used this quite often in the last couple months. However, I have noticed sometimes sets don't show up correctly, if they aren't listed with a set # (by the retailer). For example: http://www.target.com/p/LEGO-Pirates-Of-The-Caribbean-The-London-Escape-4193/-/A-13354016 Does not show as a result here: http://www.bricksalefinder.com/ when 4193 (or The London Escape) is typed into the search box, even though it's currently the lowest price online. There are many other examples of the same problem, usually associated when, as I said before, the retailer doesn't list the set # in the description (go to the Lego section at Target.com and you'll notice The London Escape (and others) doesn't have the set # listed in the preview pane (because the title is too long), even though it is listed in the individual set webpage). Does this make sense? Edited March 5, 2012 by Edmond Dantes Quote

Yucca Patrol Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) I've been using this other site for Amazon pricing, and it seems to be picking up more Amazon sets than your site is right now. http://www.brickset.com/buy/us/Amazon/ Hopefully, you can figure out why some of the Amazon stuff is not finding its way onto your site, because having all the different online retailers displayed together like you have is really fantastic! For now, I'll use both of these sites, but once your site picks up all the Amazon stuff a little better, it will definitely be the winner. Again, thanks for doing this. Thanks for pointing that out, I've had a look through and compared brickset versus bricksalefinder - I had Ninjago disable in the theme filter at the top by default, i've now enabled it by default as it's a popular theme. (Racers/hero factory/duplo etc are still disabled, you can change that in the theme filter at the top) - Some of bricksets sale prices are out of date as their crawler is run less frequently (for example 4193) - I don't have RRPs for anything that went out of stock at S@H before this January at that's when my site started crawling, so my discount % won't show, this will resolve itself over time. I still pickup the discount, but my site doesn't know how big the discount is (for example 7326) Quote
