Eskallon Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) Hiya all, Today while searching for a new HD wallpaper I came across this image, it had no description and no information that gave me any idea as to where it came from. So I decided to present it to you and see if you had any ideas, heres the picture: (I know its a large image, wanted to give readers the full size so they know what they are looking at) http://www.socwall.com/images/wallpapers/23965-1920x1200.jpg It might not even be real, if it is it will have to be a fairly famous place, by the looks of it there was a small landslide in the last 100 years, as you can see on the right of the image, then theres the forest which looks to me as if it is real where it meets up with the mountain at the back of the image. Anyway if you have any ideas then shoot, or maybe you just wanna say how amazing the wallpaper is. Thanks Eskallon Edited January 8, 2012 by Rick Deeplinking of images only allowed up to 800 x 600 px Quote
brickmack Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Did a Google Images reverse image search, all it turned up were wallpaper sites. Since I don't recognize it from anything, and no wikipedia or any other sites with actual information came up, I'm guessing it's fake. Good wallpaper though. Quote
into the blue Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 It looks really similar to a famous base jumping site in Norway. Just type 'base jump Norway' into a google image search. Quote
Eskallon Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 Yeah the Base Jump looks really similar, I also found this image of a similar area, it may even be the same place. But anyway its again in Norway: Quote
Hinckley Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 It's real. I just saw a Discovery Channel show on it. I can't remember where it is... I don't think it's in Norway. Update: It's Yosemite National Park...in the state that I live in. California. Quote
Eskallon Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 Update: It's Yosemite National Park...in the state that I live in. California. Thanks Hinckley, its remarkably surprising how someone can simply post a random image on a forum and so quickly find out so much about it. That place sure is beautiful, after looking at more of the images I wish I could live in/near a place like that. The world never stops surprising me with its natural wonders and beauty. Quote
prateek Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 (edited) Yes, that is in Yosemite Park. On Google Images, click the camera button beside the search button and enter the image URL, and it will give you info about that picture. For this particular image, this was the result. I got the same result. Not sure how brickmack didn't. I knew I had seen it. Thought it was here in the US. Kept coming up with "Yukon" and I knew that wasn't right... Reverse image search found it pretty quick. Quote
NiceMarmot Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Yup, that's Yosemite Valley. Picture is taken from Inspiration Point or the view from the tunnel below it, as you enter the valley from the Wawona road on the west end. There's a tunnel through the mountain, and immediately after you come out of the tunnel, there's a parking lot and vista point with this view. It's pretty incredible. The big cliff on the left is El Capitan, which is a really big deal in rockclimbing. In the middle you can see Half Dome in the distance, and that's Bridalveil Falls on the right. Ansel Adams has a fairly famous photo taken from this point too. It's probably one of the two most famous views of Yosemite Valley, the other being the view from Glacier Point (see this photo). Quote
into the blue Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 El Capitan! Of course! The Star Trek nerd in me is giving me a kick up the bum for not recognising that. Quote
Rook Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 Yeah that's probably the most recognizable rock face in North America. (Excluding maybe Mount Rushmore.) Quote
Eskallon Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 Thanks Prateek, never knew what that icon was for and I'm sure I will find lots of uses of that feature now! That Glacier Point view is also very beautiful NiceMarmot. Quote
