SirScottLego Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Ahoy, I don't have the rankings to post in the "Library of Hond.." so someone will have to move but here are a few of the sites I've used for reference in my pirate building projects... some excellent photos here. The links... http://members.visi.net/~markmcb/ http://san.siberia.net/photo/lj/337/kor/ (This site has over 90 ship paintings for reference through the index) http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/blackbeard/ (National Geographic site on Blackbeard) http://www.wizkidsgames.com/pirates/ (Fantastic references in the gallery section to spurn ideas) Quote
Scouty Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 Wow. Thanks for the pictures SirScottLego! As I looked at these pics, I noticed some ships have extended masts with sails to increase speed, never seen anything like it! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 6, 2006 Governor Posted October 6, 2006 I don't have the rankings to post in the "Library of Hond.." so someone will have to move but here are a few of the sites I've used for reference in my pirate building projects... some excellent photos here. Its probably best you post them here anyway because most users probably wouldn't think to look in there. After everyone's had a gander I'll move it to the Great Library. Quote
Captain Ironhook Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Maybe this forum could have an internet version of a game such as this it would be fun to play and more people would keep coming back to forum if game was good enough. Quote
El Bucanero Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 If you want clear ship reference, I strongly reccomend you to buy this book, I got this book and it is a great information source for tall ships. It explains alot about ships from the first boat(canoe) to the big cruiseships like the Queen Mary II, in between there are the sailing ships off course....over 2000 illustration, I think that is enough... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 10, 2006 Governor Posted October 10, 2006 So Mr Tiber it would be no trouble if you extracted the pictures and information from that book and entered them into The Great Library? :-D Did you acquire it from Amazon.com or another source? Quote
El Bucanero Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 A local book shop I think, got it last year for my birthday... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 10, 2006 Governor Posted October 10, 2006 Lets post an image of the cover at Brickhself's expense and see if they even notice *skull* Quote
Scouty Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 What purpose does that serve? (I'm not being negative here, just wondering :-) ) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 10, 2006 Governor Posted October 10, 2006 That's not being negative, that's being intelligent! You should question things they're uncertain of. The reason is because Mr Tiber's link to Amazon.com is somewhat inconspicuous and easily missed. So I post the cover of the book to so everyone could see what he was referring to, and perhaps someone else may have a copy or have read it, but they didn't recall the title. Quote
Scouty Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Lets post an image of the cover at Brickhself's expense and see if they even notice *skull* I was more refering to ^^^ that quote. I would like to check this book out and see it's contents. Quote
El Bucanero Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 So Mr Tiber it would be no trouble if you extracted the pictures and information from that book and entered them into The Great Library? :-D I don't have permission to start a topic in that forum... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted October 15, 2006 Governor Posted October 15, 2006 It was only kidding about that! If you want to share images from that book then create a new thread for it in the main forum, and after its thoroughly discussed I'll move it into the Great Library. This is because the thread will get more discussion in the main forum as not as many users check the Library sub-forums. Quote

Wes Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I recommend the following books: The Story of Sail: Illustrated With 1000 Scale Drawings (Hardcover) http://www.amazon.com/Story-Sail-Illustrat...282&sr=11-1 The Illustrated Companion to Nelson's Navy (Paperback) http://www.amazon.com/Illustrated-Companio...369&sr=11-1 The Pirate Ship 1660-1730 (New Vanguard) (Paperback) http://www.amazon.com/Pirate-Ship-1660-173...245&sr=11-1 The first is a huge, very comprehensive collections of information and drawings. The second is a very heavily illustrated, extremely detailed reference to everything relating to ships in the pirate era, and the third book is a nifty little booklet with pirate-specific info and a nice cutaway or two. Antsa Antero Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I've been trying to find pics from inside pirate ships cabinets but so far no luck :( Does somebody here got any? Quote
Wes Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I've been trying to find pics from inside pirate ships cabinets but so far no luck :( Probably because a cabinet is a type of furniture piece. :P Try "stern castle" or "captain's cabin." I didn't have a lot of luck finding pics either, though. Here's what I found so far: Here's the cabin of the USS Hartford: HMS Grant Turk, Nelson-era sixth-rate frigate HMS Rose I hope this helps!
