Bleaching white bricks?

So... I have some old bricks that are somewhat discolored. The white ones for example have this yellowish tint to them. So I'm wondering if anyone has tried cleaning bricks with bleach or a similar product? Btw, toothpaste didn't seem to do anything :(

This is a common problem caused by the fire retardant in older bricks. Have you tried this?

I think I am going to do this for all the bulk legos I buy as some are questionable to where they have been. Don't get me wrong, I clean them but usually with hot, soapy water.
