trekman Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I was just wondering has anyone noticed any "wear" dust on the two 24Teeth gears from the motor of the Unimog. My son pointed out me the dust, which I have only ever seen on higher loaded gears in the past. Is it to do with the newer type 24 teeth gear in dark grey, extra load on the gears when using the compressor, or some of the loads which we are placing on from our MOC accessories? Actually our accessories do not load the 24T gears as much as the compressor. Any thoughts anyone? Quote

Alasdair Ryan Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 From the motor (24t) it goes to another 24 tooth gear before it goes to the the gear box,i have not had any trubble my self but i will check,this dust is common on driven axles i would not worry about it. Quote

TOP VIEW BOTTOM VIEW Just near the top of the "bottom view", (in the middle of the picture) you will see one of the two 24 T gears on which is connected to the m motor via an axle. As I remember, there are only two 24T gears on the Unimog, and they are taking a bit of load. The second 24T feeds through the selector either feeding the PTOs or sending rotational power straight through to the compressor crank. Everything is working perfectly with no other problems. Is this just a problem to be expected or due to the use we are putting our MOG through? Quote

nemu Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I too noticed this, when disassembling it the other day. I noticed it on one of the 24T gears but also on some of the axles (I think it was on some of the Axle 5.5 With Stop that I noticed it on). Quote
Dutch_EE Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I think it has to do with driving the air pump, when the pressure is high. With my build I replaced one of the 24 teeth gears to a 24-t clutch gear. Maybe this helps ? My model (read the M-motor) has run for about 20 Minutes. No visible wear on the gears. Nor the 24-t normal nor the clutch gear. So my tip : try to replace the 24-t gear on the engine axle with a 24-t clutch gear. Quote

It is strange because I have not had this before in MOCs where there is a higher load on them and that have been played with for longer. Are they a different plastic now?
