Hi all,

Having looked through some of the threads for other people's creations I really want to do more and as I only have 3 sets (one isn't even complete :-( ).

So my plan is to try and get more bricks and pieces as quickly as possible without breaking the bank.

I dont mind starting small, but I'm sure you appreciate that once you have the bug you want more and more and more haha.

So my question is what is the best way to increase a collection and get as many types of bricks and other parts, i.e. is there a set that isnt too badly priced and has lots of parts or is there a "starter" set that gives you lots of various parts to play with.

It is my intention to buy the power functions set (I have the 8109 set so have 1 motor and battery pack) and as a fair few of the other models people have made use multiple motors etc.

Cheers,

@ Smrgol: You really should consider buying from Bricklink.com . It is the "Unofficial Lego Marketplace", and you can use its "Catalog" function to find EXACTLY what you want. There are vendors selling parts worldwide -- even in your country. It is more cost-effective to buy the parts you need than whole sets (which tends to waste money on parts you don't want/need).

eBay is also another way of getting some good deals. I like searching for "Lego Technic Incomplete" to find GOOD SETS that are missing just a few parts. The bids end up being low on those auctions, and one can get the missing parts via Bricklink. :classic:

Bricklink is good for specific parts, but if you want to increase bulk quantity of your bricks, buying new sets on discount is the best way. Used set on ebay is also good way, but it depends also on your luck.

Buying second hand may be an option, but personally I only buy new, as I hate pieces that smell of smoke or damaged pieces, you never know what you may get unless you can see it before you buy.

I usually keep an eye on store sales for sets with larger part counts even if I dont particularly like the set, or already have one, one of the best in the last few years was the Telescopic handler, also the tractor with log loader is well priced with pneumatic parts.

The cheapest to get new parts is to buy sets... New Technic parts on Ebay seem to sell for WAY more than they actually cost... What you want to do is shop around between www.bricklink.com and order parts from Lego direct if you are looking for specific pieces...

Hi.

Buying technic sets is no doubt a good source of parts but IMHO I still believe that getting inexpensive bulk TECHNIC parts has been in my opinion, one of the weakest point on the Lego Business (especially for AFOLS) for years. I still do not understand why LEGO does not offer a set that only contains specific technic parts, for example a set of one color beams of all sizes. I have purchased sets in order to build a stock of parts; however I always end up with parts that I do not need or does not contain a good sample of beams, too many of one size and none of other.

cheers

For more Technic parts you can buy the 9695 LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education Resource Set, from Lego Education, for $100 plus shipping.

http://www.legoeducation.us/eng/product/lego_mindstorms_education_resource_set/2214

http://education.lego.com/en-gb/products/mindstorms/9695/

It comes with a nice storage container

.

And very nice for dark gray only MOC´s.... :-)

seriously, it is a great value for your money (I got one of this sets after I bought my Mindstorm set) but not a solution when you are looking for pieces for some technic project were the pieces you need are beams and panels.

regards

Jaime

Yes, exactly but more quantity and color options…

Hey, Why not?

Hi,

You can always buy used lots on EBay - search for "lego technic lot"

There are many options to chose from, ranging from a few connectors/gears/beams to lots by the pound.
