Palathadric Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 (edited) I too like flickr, in particular because downloading the pictures I post on it is made harder. As a flickr use you can limit downloads to your contacts or to other flickr users only (although there are ways around it, of course). I've done that for my pictures. Doing that has cut down plagiarism of my photos dramatically. I do understand the sentiment about flickr a bit, though. Before I used flickr myself I didn't really like using the site either. Going from a single picture linked in a thread to an overview of all the pictures of the MOC in question is awkward, unless you know about tags or they are all in the same set. Brickshelf has been on the verge of going belly up so long now that I don't even remember the last time I uploaded anything there. Looking at the replies in this thread, there's no obvious consensus on what people prefer. Some prefer all pictures in the thread because the don't like going to an external site. Other people prefer a few, because it takes less time and if the MOC in question is good, they will go to the external site. I think I'll stick to doing what I always do: a few pictures in the thread and the rest on flickr, but perhaps I'll add a link to the set as well. Cheers, Ralph I guess that's what I meant about Flicker pictures being hard to download. Perhaps somebody limited the downloads to their contacts, thus I wasn't able to download their pictures or something. I still think Flicker is unwielding; although, undoubtedly, it has a lot more features and is a lot more up to the times than Brickshelf. I, think for the most part, people have seemed to say that they would prefer a few more of the best pictures here in EB and then a link to Flicker, Brickshelf, etc., in case they deem the MOC exceptionally good. Brickdoctor Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 When flickr pictures are embedded on other sites (such as EB), downloading is as easy as right-clicking and saving the image to your hard drive. Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 If you're using a recent version of Internet Explorer, that behaviour seems to be caused by the forum software sending older HTML to IE. If you turn on the broken page function for EB, by clicking the little torn page icon near refresh, you'll find things work as expected. No doubt I'm being thick here, but I have no idea where this is? I have no 'torn page' icon that I can see? I have tried search and got nothing back for this function? Where am I supposed to be looking? Quote

It should be near the end of the address bar, like so: When it's coloured blue like that, IE's "broken page" mode is turned on for the site/page. If not, just click it to enable it. Quote
CP5670 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 (edited) I post one or two teaser images on the forum and link to the rest on Brickshelf, with the images themselves as the links. This seems to be the best middle ground; people who like what they see can click the images to see more. When I'm looking at MOC threads, if there is no image or too many images (especially oversized ones), I often don't look at the MOC at all. I am not a fan of flickr. The interface is clunky, especially when trying to access different images of the same model, and the default image sizes are very small, with far too much work required to see the larger sizes. As for downloading pictures, it's more accurate to say that flickr deters people who aren't very bright. Most browsers have settings to prevent sites from disabling context menus, and even aside from that, if the picture can be seen at all, it's trivial to take a screenshot of it. On the other hand, most people who plagiarize models probably fall into that category, so maybe it works out. Brickshelf has plenty of its own issues but I like the "no nonsense" nature of the site, with no image size or quantity limits and easy, intuitive access to all the images in a user's folder. Palathadric Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Well, Brickshelf seems to be down today. I guess Flicker is the way to go then. Shame! Quote
