allanp Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 (edited) You need to have the diff the other way round, so that the red bushing above is in line with the large gear of the diff. You will notice that the middle portion of the red bushing is a small diameter so it will give enough room for the diff gear. Edited August 14, 2013 by allanp Quote
legomuppet9 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Check the Differentials in the axles are the correct way round... Quote
skppo Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Hi, for the problem of the unimog goes backwards when you try to ride forward, check the black piece of the second manual, page 54, section 2, i buy and unimog the last week, and i put on the contrary, leaving no move to the motor gear, if i try to move, the unimog only roll five centimeters and go back itself. Soory for my bad english, i´m spanish best regards! Sounds like your drive train is blocked. Axles bend and spring back. Quote

HI, I haven't build mine 8110 yet, but it sounds like same problem already discussed here - please check if your differentials facing different sides of the Unimog. Just check picture in post #11 in this same thread, and you should be able to observe that. Edited August 19, 2013 by zux Quote
FuzzyBallz Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Wow your 10 year old is building the Unimog? Holy crap, he must be an expert LEGO builder! I was building Castle and Pirate LEGO sets when I was 10! I finally opened up the 8110 last night, I'm building it today. Gonna be a lot of fun. The chassis looks awesome! I'm trying to decide if I want to do the plow in the front or the claw in the rear. Quote

I'm trying to decide if I want to do the plow in the front or the claw in the rear. I just took my 8110 off the shelf and I am rebuilding crane/claw into plow - I must say it is way more interesting and unconventional (we've had a lot of cranes and claws already). I just need more gray panels to cover the naked back of the truck :) Quote

Kronos Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 (edited) Wow, that plow was quite the investment. Those red panels are not cheap... I had to use bley panels for mine. Edited August 30, 2013 by Kronos Quote

BigTonka Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Kronos is right; the red panels are quite expensive but lucky for me, I found a BL store with 8 at $2.00 each one several years ago, otherwise it will be an impossible project :D Quote
FuzzyBallz Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I was actually thinking about doing the plow with orange panels, not that it's super expensive, but I didn't wanna wait, and ended up just building it as is. Really fun built. I made a few mistakes, one of them was forgetting to put a gear that's responsible for steering the truck. I had to pull the whole chassis apart and rebuild it. LOL! Quote
skriblez Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 My plow is orange :) Ill see if i can't take some pictures when i get the camera back :) Quote
Al69 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 1) How does the steering work? It looks like the differential was put in backwards, but if that's the case, your steering would be all messed up too. 2) Can you verify that the differentials in both axles have the ring gear on opposite sides, as illustrated in the renderings above? 3) Is the red bushing towards the front or back of the vehicle? We'll go from there... Edited to add question 3 Bushing was wrong way round! That fixed it. Thanks Quote
omegamaxx Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 First post, I've done a lot of lurking I too had that problem where the back wheels wouldn't reverse, so I rebuilt it what I thought was the correct way, now it rolls fine forward and reverse! BUT something went wrong during the build and I can't get the front and rear motor functions to work! The pump and crane work fine, but I can't use the winch or turn the crane I guess it's time for a rebuild from the ground up, but I think I need a break! My original build time was around 2 days, add on another 4 evenings for the first rebuild, I need to step away from this for a little while. Maybe when the missing bricks come in I'll start all over again. This is my first Technic set, I've only ever built Star Wars ships, and the VW Camper Van. Quote
jantjeuh Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 (edited) Yeah it's quite a complex Technic set, especially if it's your first one! Did you like the building experience (disregarding the mistakes)? Many people have trouble adjusting to the studless constructions paradigm. By the way, make sure you orient the dark blue grey clutch gears correctly in the gearbox, this might have caused those errors. Edited October 3, 2013 by jantjeuh Quote
omegamaxx Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 I've had a great time with this, the closest I've come to Technic building was my last Star Wars Sith Fury Class Interceptor, it had some frame pieces that were technic. I think I will need to redo most of the chassis anyways, I had "Different" parts left over, and in a couple of places I had to use longer beams since I didn't have the right size, all that measuring, counting holes, using the instruction 1X pictures, and I still messed up in more than a couple of places. I do have a set of Black Rims shipping from Germany, hopefully I'll have worked out the last of my errors by the time they arrive. Meanwhile It looks great and steers better than ever, and it's nice to put away the sorting containers and turn out all the extra lighting (I do not have the greatest work surface... my desk is mostly computer lol!) omegamaxx Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 After 3 rebuilds I have all the rear functions working including rotating the crane, but I still have not got the front to work! I thought I had it when I tested it, but the front gears turn only when there is no resistance! Once I put the winch on, it won't turn at all! I guess I have one more blue grey gear on the wrong way around! Quote
