Questions on creating Earth/Rocks...

Greetings all, hope I am posting this in the right location. Please inform me if I have not.

My question/s are quite simple and hopefully I can gain some knowledge from the experts here. I am looking to create an Earth/Rock golem that is roughly 5-6 lego characters tall. I have been working to mock some up using mostly slanted bricks (using some of the rock wall methods I have seen on here), however I am failing to come up with anything interesting/alive (for lack of a better word).

I am curious if anyone here has dabbled with the creation of such a creature, or if anyone might be able to point me in the direction of some techniques I might be able to utilize?

I thank anyone who responds in advance, and will gladly post pictures as my work progresses and share any insights I might come to on my own along the way.

I found these on BrickShelf, some interesting builds. Right now I am looking into joints and what will hold up with the most weight (although not a deal breaker as we will most likely use supports for the weight).

Curious if anyone has any info to share on joint building for fully (close enough) articulating joints.
