Yesterday I looked at my games collection and realized that I've just been buying an buying and not finishing too much anymore. Which really made me think about which games I truly find to be among the best ever made.

Now, I could likely tell you my 10 favorite CD's or favorite movie's without too much trouble, but games are different. I skipped out on some real classics simply because I found them to be less appealing then others. Anyway, list time:

#10. Jet Force Gemini (N64)

One of the only N64 games I liked. A very challenging game featuring a great multiplayer mode (even a tuned-down co-op version) and some of the toughest bosses ever. Shooting ants never was this much fun.

#9. Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (SNES)

This made it on the list for one reason only, and that is that it is my favorite multiplayer game of all time. Whenever my friend comes over to play games, we always play the co-op mode once. Finishable in around 25 minutes, TNMT is a beat-em-all. Just beat the crap out of every enemy thrown at you. In singleplayer mode, it's nice too, but to get the full enjoyment out of it, play it with a friend.

#8. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)

The first Mario RPG I played. Quite different from the Paper Mario series, you control Mario and Luigi. At once. Which basically means: the L button is for Luigi and the R button for Mario. In battles, A controls Mario and B controls Luigi. With an awesome battle system which made great use of the timed commands also seem in Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario, this game was already outstanding. However, what really makes this game is the humor. From the setting and the villages you visit to the awesome evil minion Fawful, you'll be playing this game with a big smile on your face.

#7. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (GBC)

A vote for this game is of course also a vote for it's counterpart, Oracle of Seasons. This is my favorite Zelda game. You read correct, I like this better then Ocarina of Time. With Zelda games, it's always difficult to say exactly why you like one better then another, since the atmosphere really makes the games. Oracle of Ages was the very first Zelda game I played and the one that got me hooked. It features a neat story (be it without Zelda or Ganon...well, kinda anyway...) and 8 well-designed dungeons. The time-warp wasn't new at the time, but it works a lot better in 2D then it did in Ocarina of Time. Best part is, that when you've finished the game...you find out it's not yet over. That's where you need to link with the other Oracles game and unlock a second quest. And yes, that one does include Ganon...

#6. Super Metroid (SNES)

What can I say about this game that hasn't been said yet? It took the basics from Metroid and Metroid II and perfectioned them in every single way. Metroid Prime is nice, but when playing it, I really felt that Metroid is the kind of game that's just made to be played in 2 dimensions. Behind every corner is something new to discover. Be it a secret Missile Tank or a grappling point that finally gets you across that pit of lava that was blocking your way. Super Metroid shows why the SNES is one of the best consoles ever created: 2D gaming at it's best.

#5. Advance Wars (GBA)

The best Gameboy Advance game out there. Granted, the story is crapp, but the gameplay couldn't have been better. Being a turnbased game, it is best compared to chess...with tanks. The number of units is pretty limited, but that just adds to the balance in this game. Yes, balance is the keyword here. You pick a Commanding Officer (CO) before a mission, who adds his powers to your units. This can vary from stronger direct units (yet weaker indirect units) to a CO that works well in snow (but sucks in rain). Each CO has a power, which, is used correctly can completely turn the tide of battle. And finally, Advance Wars is hard. And hard is good. If you can finish Advance Campaign's secret mission 'Rivals!', I salute you. Unfortunately, the balance and difficulty weren't as good in it's sequels.

#4. Final Fantasy III/VI (SNES)

Don't be fooled, this is one and the same game. Final Fantasy III in the USA and Final Fantasy VI in Japan. And RPG with a story which develops at a great pace, which isn't afraid to go into side-quests deeply and which develops the characters in one of the best ways ever. You really grow attached to them. It plays like a standard RPG: each character can attack, defend and use magic. However, each character also has one special move. This can vary from transforming to copying the moves of your enemies. Magic isn't learned through leveling up, but through the use of magic creatures called Espers. I won't spoil anything for you, but these creatures play a vital part in the story. And finally...it features one of the best villains ever, Kefka. Just plain evil for the sake of it, who can forget him disobeying General Leo's orders at Doma castle and his rise against his superiors. RPG classic.

#10 Mario Kart DS (DS)

I chose this because of the awesome multiplayer; it is also the best Mario Kart ever. Online, 32 levels of both old and new, wireless 8-player multiplayer, what else would you want? Mario Kart 64 was also amazing.

#9 Street Fighter II Turbo (SNES)

I have had some of the most intense fights with this game. It is without a doubt one of the best fighting games out their, Killer Instinct (SNES) was great as well.

#8 Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)

This may be one of the best Mario Games I have ever played, or it was the boredom of me at my Grandparents for two weeks. Whatever it was I still loved it!

#7 Goldeneye 007 (N64)

Four words- Best console shooter EVER! Single player was a blast but multiplayer was even better. But what really made the game was Big Head mode, pure genius! :-P Perfect Dark was also just as good.

#6 Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past (SNES)

This was the first Zelda game I ever played, and boy was it fun. To this day I have beaten it three times and have still not gotten tired.

#5 Super Mario World (SNES)

This is another Mario classic, what made it so fun was the co-op and excellent level structure.

#4 Legend of Zelda Four Swords Adventure (GCN)

I loved this Zelda game as well but it would not have been nearly of good if there was not the co-op mode, me and my brother beat it over the summer and boy what a summer that was. One bad thing was you needed GBA to play multiplayer, so I bought a second one for $20 *sweet*

#3 Paper Mario 2 (GCN)

This was another awesome Mario RPG. With a great story line, lots to explore and tons of secrets this game is a classic.

#2 Mystical Ninja (N64)

I rented this game three times and beat, but I never actually owned it. This game had huge worlds, fun bosses and great towns.

#1 Earth Bound (SNES)

I remember waking up on those Saturday morning at 7:30 to play this game. The game was huge. I also really liked the originality. Normally when you think of an RPG you think of Swords and Dragons but with Earthbound you think of Baseball Bats and Aliens if you have never played it you should. *cough*emulator*cough*

Honorable Mentions

Advance Wars: Dual Strike (DS)

Advance Wars is a great turn based strategy game but on the DS it got stepped up with more modes, more levels ect.

Legend of Zelda Wind Waker (GCN)

10. Super Smash Brothers (N64)

The original version. I remember spending hours on this game when I was in 5th or 6th grade. Next to Pokemon it was the "in" thing. Like people didn't watch movies at parties, they played SSB instead.

9. Starcraft (PC)

I don't even know if Blizzard is around anymore. I think someone bought them out. But nonetheless, Starcraft was my obsession in junior high, almost 5 years after it first hit the market. That people are still playing it en masse even now is a tribute to how good it was.

8. Midtown Madness (PC)

This game was made by Microsoft in 97 or 98. It was a racing game, but it was also a "free driving" game, where you were given a map (Chicago) and allowed to roam the streets and create havoc. It was made all the better by 3rd party cars. There was an MM2 made in 2001 or 02.

7. Tetris

Yeah. Tetris. It was this or Microsoft Solitaire. I have a GBC version of Tetris that I still play when I go on trips. I mean... who doesn't like Tetris? It's... Tetris.

6. Pokemon, Second Generation (GBC)

I think Gold and Silver represent the "Golden Age" of Pokemon. They fixed all the numerous bugs (Missing No, duplication, etc) and added a whopping 100 new Pokemon to the pool. Pokemon was still "cool". I remember beating the Japanese version months before the english release with a two page guide from Gamefaqs.

5. Tales of Symphonia (GC)

It's all about the Beach Boy costume.

4. Roller Coaster Tycoon (PC)

I actually want to pick up this game again. You build theme parks. I played this game obsessively for years, beating every map in the original version and the two booster packs. Eventually 3rd party support was also allowed people to play the game in a "Sandbox" fashion.

3. Disgaea (PS2)

It's possible to do two billion points of damage in Disgaea 2. That should say everything.

2. Final Fantasy VII (PS)

This game doesn't even need an explanation.

1. Transport Tycoon Deluxe (PC)

Wtf, you say? This is a simulation game released in 1993, for DOS. It is the forerunner to Roller Coaster Tycoon. In TTD, you transport goods and make money. I don't know what makes it so good, but it is. Best thing is that it is basically freeware these days, as the company producing it stopped production years back.

well Kikuichimonji this is a real tough one. the more i think about my gaming past the more great games i remember. so here is my list in no particular order as that would just be to hard.

FARCRY(pc)

a amazing game with stunning graphics, huge levels and great game play.

F.E.A.R(pc)

the first game to really scare the crap out of me! dark room and headphones and this game can't be beat for atmosfear!

LEGO STAR WARS II(pc)

ok now this might be that i am playing this game to death at the moment, but i really love this game. great graphics, awesome gameplay what more could a lego and star wars fan want!

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA WINDWAKER(GC)

this game had it's flaws but was still and great game in it's own right. it was good enough for me to complete it twice.

TIE FIGHTER(pc)

probably the best star wars game ever! stunning!

GRAND THEFT AUTO:VICE CITY(pc)

a great game, probably made better by the great eighty's sound track

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA OCARINA OF TIME(N64)

my favourite roleplay game ever! (soon to be replaced by the twilight princess)

MARIO 64(n64)

best game ever? some might say.

THUNDERFORCE III(md)

a real blast from the past. one of the best arcade style shooters i ever played. hopefully it will appear on wii :-)

Posted (edited)

Hmmm. Not an easy question. I could add Street Fighter 2, but newer incarnations have since dwarfed it. Could put Mario Kart, but it's no fun since my brother lives far away now. Tekken 2... moved away from cousin.

So I guess I'll just list undeniable games I still love:

#1 Castlevania : Symphony of the Night (PS1) - I kid you not... it was inside my Playstation back in 1997, and it's still there now. I play it for 100's of hours each year. THIS is what happens when every aspect of a game comes together right (save for the omitted levels found only on the Saturn version... and maybe the easier difficulty later on in the game). I'd say not having the OTHER fairy familiar found only in the japanese version was a downside, but her (as well as her ability to sing in the library) can be put back in with a Gameshark device. Favorite PS1 game AND favorite game ever.

#2 Klonoa (PS1) - It met with a limited release, but Namco's sidescroller here is one of the most fun games I ever played. The music blends nicely with the graphics of the game... and holy freakin' crap... the ending nearly brought me to tears when I first saw it. I've played most of the others, but they don't compare to that "special" feeling of the first.

#3 DEZAEMON+ (Super Famicom) - Having had the foresight to preorder a SNES (so as to get the initial version, where you had but to break a tab in the cartridge slot to be able to avoid the anti-zoning that blocked Japanese games)... I was able to play Dezaemon Plus. It's a top-down shooter where you get to compose the music, and draw EVERYTHING. Background, sprites, weapons, explosions, etc.... programming enemy placement, movement, etc.... it was bliss. At one point (right before I was poor and had to sell it) I'd had a naughty level or two, where 3 screen-sized chicks were the background, and you could blow their clothes off while avoiding the milk and other bodily fluids they shot out of their various parts.

X-D I think I'll go hunt down the rom to this, now thatI'm remembering how much fun it was.

#4 Gunstar Heroes (Genesis / Megadrive) - Side-scrolling beat/shoot'em-up at it's finest.

#4.5 Astro Boy (Gameboy Advance) - See #4, also made by the programming team "Treasure". While Astro Boy blew on just about every other platform, on the GBA he was a GOD.

#5 Doom (Playstation 1) - Better sounds than on any other platform. It's a game I could pick up now and be lost for hours. God mode codes for the win.

#6 Galactic Pinball (Virtual Boy) - Oh, poor Virtual Boy. Your time was too short on this Earth. But I will never forget the hours of bleary-eyed, sweaty-faced fun you gave me from this game.

#7 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4 : Turtles in Time (SNES) - Konami kicked azz during the SNES days. This, like most of their larger titles were no exception.

#8 Castlevania IV (SNES) - Hello again, Konami. Different enough from Castlevania : SotN to distinguish itself as not just a prequel version.

#9 Bonk's Adventure (Turbografx16 / PC Engine) - Oh yes. This is another one of those "perfect" games where everything meshes perfectly with everything else. The music? Pure awesome... laid-back but good. The sequels did not compare.

#10 Dragon Spirit (Turbografx16 / PC Engine) - My god... the music was heavenly, and the enemies were placed to coincide (maybe accidentally) with the ups and downs of that music. Unfortunately, some levels were missing from this arcade port, but what's still there is worthy. Oh, how I miss those days.

Honorable mention:

Ridge Racer (mainly for it's soundtrack.

Wipeout XL (same reason).

Tekken series (music again lol).

Gaiares (Genesis).

1942

1943

Bubble Bobble (arcade) - Would rank higher, but 1 or 2 levels near end nearly REQUIRE that a second player be present to do the trick to get the "good" ending.

Bomberman

Street Fighter 2, Alpha and all other incarnations.

Darkstalkers, etc.

Mortal Kombat 2 (and ONLY #2).

SUPER Smash TV (SNES) - You are not a gamer if you don't play this from start to finish at least once.

Too many games over the 33 years of my life to mention.

Here's my list. Keep in mind this reflects my personal taste. While Zelda games may deserve a high spot on here, they're not my cup of tea ;-)

10. Super Smash Bros. (N64)

One of the best selling all time multiplayer fighting games, Super Smash Bros. brought a collection of Nintendo's most popular characters together in an arena where they could duke it out (in toy form), using a multitude of their signature moves, and throwbacks to their games. While it's sequel may be even more fun in some areas (more characters, moves, locations, minigames, items, modes, events, trophies), the original has not only the prestige of being the first in the series, but has much more memorable stages (and in many cases, a better control scheme).

9. Super Mario Bros. (NES)

A childhood favorite that almost everyone can remember playing. The kind of game that, while the same, was somehow different every time you played it, and never got boring. Mostly remembered packaged with the game Duckhunt, the original Super Mario Bros. brought videogame entertainment into the homes for millions of people, who remember this as their first video game experience. This introduced the evil King Koopa, Bowser, as well as an assortment of enemies for the Italian Plumber, Mario, to stomp on and defeat. Truly a classic.

8. F-Zero (SNES)

Although I'm not a fan of racing games, I fondly remember playing the original F-Zero on my old SNES. For its day, F-Zero had phenomenal graphics, and a soundtrack memorable even till this day that perfectly fit each scene and made the racing game into something truly epic.

7. Advance Wars

The first in the series for the GameBoy Advance, Advance Wars put you in charge of an army trying to defeat the sinister Black Hole organization. This game (and series) was interesting in that you could capture cities and factories to gain resources and build armies. You could afford to sacrafice units for the sake of victory, or be overwhelmed and let your whole army be destroyed. It's well known for its difficulty towards the later levels on Hard mode, and its assortment of units made the game different each time you played, and an enjoyable (though sometimes frustrating) experience.

6. Megaman Battle Network 2 (GBA)

The sequel to the first Megaman Battle Network game (also for the GameBoy Advance) improved upon it in ways most sequels only dream of. A bigger world, improved graphics, and an increased variety in Chip selection. Megaman Battle Network takes place in an alternate reality of the normal Megaman Universe, where instead of robots, the internet won out. People have PErsonal Terminals called PETs, which are basically advanced AI that can stay in your digital oganizer, or run errands for you on the internet. These PETs are largely based off of the robots in the original Megaman universe, both good guys and Wiley's "robot masters". Unlike most RPGs, the action is in real time, although there are turns. After a set amount of time, you can select "chips" to use that let Megaman use a certain attack once for each chip (each chip can only be used once in a battle). In between you can use your normal buster canon, and try not to get killed on a 3x3 grid (your opponent, another Navi or a virus, also has a 3x3 grid to maneuver on).

5. Super Mario World (SNES)

What can I say? Amazing graphics, fun gameplay, new items, new enemies, alternate paths, alternate endings, beautiful music. If you never played it, get it now.

4. Trauma Center: Life in the ER (NDS)

One of the hardest games for the Nintendo DS, Trauma Center made a name for itself with its fast cult following, making it sell out fast enough for a second run to be printed (similar in this aspect to its "rival", Pheonix Wright). In this you use the stylis to operate on a series of patients. About 1/3 of the way through, you move more towards a fantasy aspect, but still perform medical procedures. It uses real terminology, and the correct procedures, so any medical fans are sure in for a treat. Yeah, it's hard, but totally worth it. Satisfaction when you beat X10 is unbelievable.

3. Fire Emblem 7 (GBA)

Another long-running francise, Fire Emblem 7 (an sRPG) was the first game brought out of Japan from the series. The games tend to be in groups of two, so that if you haven't played the older ones, it won't hamper you from grabbing the newer ones. It's unique in the aspect that when you lose a character, they're gone for good. No revives. No Pheonix down. Nothing. They're dead. You also wear out items as you use them, and need to buy replacements. A fantastic game that requires a decent level of strategy, and a fun challenge on Hard Mode. A must-play for anyone (includes multiple support conversations for many playthroughs)

#10- Frequency (PS2)

One of the craziest games I ever played in my life- a true seizure starter.

#9- Mr Driller (PS)

You know, this is one of the most fun little games I have ever played. It's so simple but I just can't tire of it.

#8- Dragon Warrior (NES)

I actually just bought this game earlier this year, I thought it would be nice to own the first game from that series, seeing as Dragon Quest 8 was so much fun.

#7- The Legend of Dragoon. (PS)

Hey, if it's an RPG with a neat plot, I am bound to own it and love it. X-D

#6- Dragon Ball Z Budukai 3 (I think that's the number.) (PS2)

This is my favorite fighting game, probably because I am a big DBZ fan.

#5- Lunar 2: Eternal Blue. (PS)

Definately a fun RPG, after about 6 times I have palyed it, I have yet to win. (Just like most all my RPGs. :-D )

#4- Final Fantasy Tactics. (PS)

Honestly, is there anyone who has played the game that doesn't like it? Seriously, what's not to love about this game?

#3- Star Ocean: The second story. (PS)

Another great RPG that I have allways loved. The story and all the differant variations of item creation really grasp my interest.

#2- Dragon Quest 8. (PS2)

This game is extremely enjoyable, 100+ hours of fun. My only PS2 RPG I think.

#1- Final Fantasy VII. (PS)

Super-best game ever. Always been my favorite. Oh, and yes, I am one of those people who begs for a sequal.. :-)

Boy oh boy was that hard to compile. This is a really great thread by the way.

#1 Jagged Alliance 2 (PC)

My number one. You receive control over a group of highly trained mercs to free a country from a tiranic queen. The basic game was good enough as it is, but a group of fans went on where the developers stopped. They brough V1.13 to the community with loads of new items/weapons improved AI and loads of other stuff.

I'm very proud to be in the credits list as I helped with some of the new item descriptions.

And the rest, in no specific order:

# Broken Sword 1+2 (PC)

Point & Click adventure games. High entertainement value.

# Knights of the old Republic (PC)

One of the better rpg's where you are free to choose your own path, more or less..

# Neverwinter Nights (PC)

If you talk about a big game, that is the one. Probably one of the better RPG's available to date.

# Ace Combat (PS2)

Combat flight simulator.

# Road Rash (PS)

Riding your bike while kicking cops and opponents of theirs, working your way up the ladder.

# Half-Life (PC)

The mother of all shooters.

# Theme Hospital (PS + PC)

A golden oldie. I still install it from time to time, even if it's just to play only a few missions.

I'm too lazy to put them in any decent order.

- SOTtEoT

Best. RPG. Ever.

- Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal

Good smooth third person shooter, though a bit too easy.

- FFX

Storyline is trash, though gameplay makes up for it.

- Dark Cloud 2

Fun action-RPG with extremely innovative elements and a great storyline.

- Kingdom Hearts II

Mindless fun.

- TLoZ Wind Waker

I liked the graphics...

- TLoZ Link's Awakening DX

I grew up on this game.

- Soul Calibur III

Aside from some unskipable cutscenes and a crappy save glitch it's perfect.

- Pokemon third gen

Dunn'o, I liked them.

- Pokemon Snap

Don't shoot me.

- LEGO Rock Raiders

See TLoZ Link's Awakening DX.

I haven't found ten games I will forever enjoy or keep.

So far Fire Emblem, FE Sacred Stones, FE Path of Radiance, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, and Super Smash Melee are the only games I will not get rid of. I am sure some of the DS games or Wii games will be sure keepers.

Sadly, PC changes so often that even if I wanted to, my favorite old games are simply not compatible anymore.

I am hoping the next Mario Kart and Star Fox are really great and end up making my list of must have games.

I know what you mean. :-( Trust me.

I also have high hopes on Mario Kart and Star Fox. ;-)

Really hard to condense my favorites to a mere ten games, so without further ado...

10) Super Smash Bros. Melee (GCN)

Fighting and madness at it's best. Also one of the few games I still play regularly after six years.

9) Super Mario World (SNES/GBA)

Classic Mario. Huge world, plenty of levels, secrets galore.

8) Paper Mario (N64)

I really loved all the Mario RPGs, but this one was a really interesting experience. The art style, the active battling, this one got it just right.

7) Earthbound (SNES)

Strangest game I've ever played. Turns the classic RPG on it's head, has fun doing it, and is still quite heartwarming. It also left me with a burning desire to play the sequel, Mother 3. ( I'm waiting, Nintendo. *sing* ))

6) Final Fantasy III/VI (SNES)

Massive, epic, great story, interesting characters, memorable music, fantastic graphics (for 1994) and just a joy to play.

5) Super Metroid (SNES)

Lots of exploration, intense boss battles, just incredible.

4) Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/Ages (GBC)

Two great games that mesh into one excellent adventure. I just love me that 2D Zelda gameplay. There's some good story in there too.

3) Sonic 3 & Knuckles (SG/MD)

My childhood in a nutshell. (before Pokemon) I know, it's two games stacked together, but this is Sonic at his finest. (Before the massive landslide) Just so hyper, fun, and addictive. Also, the first game I ever beat. ;-)

2) Pokemon GS (GBC)

I don't even want to know how much I've played these games during my young life. :-D Gold/Silver version was poke-perfection. Plenty of monsters to catch, great battle system, internal clock/day and night, Johto AND Kanto, and, of course, full GBC color.

1) Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)

A true classic. Need I go on? :-P

10.Super Smash Bros. Mellee (GC)

Ahh.. One of the best fighting games ever.

9. Super Mario 64 (N64)

I just love to jump around as a fat Italian and collect stars! X-D

8. Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii)

"AAAAAAAHHH!!!" X-D Those crazy rabbits made me laugh more than one time! :-P

7. James Bond: GoldenEye

Best Shooting game EVERR!! Crappy graphics, but who cares? BAM! X-D

6. The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GC)

Kinda cute, but doesn't give me the total Zelda feeling, and it's a little bit easy. But still a great game! :-)

5. Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)

Mmm.. How relaxing is it to own a cute little house in a little peaceful town, where everything and everyone is nice? Or go fishing, or catching bugs? :-$

4. GTA: San Andreas (PS2)

Hmm.. I get a good feeling inside myself everytime i SPLAT some innocent person with my Humvee.. Help, please? *wacko*

3. The Legend Of Zelda: Majoras Mask (N64)

A really, really nice Zelda classic wit loads of sidequests. Ingenious. :-)

2. The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time (N64)

One of the greatest games of all time.. over 10 years old, still a classic.. Who cares about graphics? :'-)

1. The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)

When I first got this game along with my Wii, my hands started to shake and tears started to flow from my blank and dreamy eyes. :'-) And I was not dissappointed, delicious gameplay and graphics from the beginning. It was just so quiet and peaceful, until.. BAM! :'-( There comes the bad guy! :-P

I don't have a top 10, but I always liked Baldurs Gate 1 and 2.

Morrowind is also very good, You can walk in it and it's like your in a touristic commercial to visit Morrowind.

(I still don't played Morrowind out)

#10 - Wii Sports (Wii)

Ever since I bought my Wii this has been the most played game on it. It's a hit with both family and friends (Sons, daughters and grandparents alike!), and never gets old. Can be very competitive and it's easy to get very worked up. Also good for drinking games. :-D

#9 - Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast)

The best Sonic game ever in my opinion. Possibly the only 3D Sonic that was done right.

#8 - Grand Theft Auto London (PSone)

Not necessarilly the best GTA, but the one that gave me the most enjoyment. It had so much charm and seemed so familiar. Not to mention the fantastic humour!

#7 - Unreal Tournament (PC)

One of my favourite competitive games ever. Really good over the web, excellent at LAN parties, and just a downright blast. CTF-FacingWorlds ftw!

#6 - Defcon (PC)

A really simple, beautiful, pick up and play game. Has given me endless enjoyment. Everytime I have a half hour to spare I play a quick game. Everybody dies. :-P

#5 - Command & Conquer - Tiberian Sun (PC)

I remember drooling over the screenshots in PC Gamer months before it came out, unable to control my excitement. It certainly didn't disappoint. The best C&C in my books.

#4 - SSX3 (PlayStation2)

I'm an avid snowboarder and so this should come as no surprise, but I feel that the third was the best, simply for the whole mountain ride. One single track, from the top of the mountain to the bottom. It takes a whole half an hour to complete! I believe my best time was 23 minutes.

#3 - Ridge Racer Type 4 (PSone)

I'm not a big fan of realistic racing games, but I love a good race every now and again. Just bombing it around a track, finger on the accelerator all the way round. Has one of my favourite maps ever, Nightime Airport Circuit.

#2 - Super Mario Bros (NES)

A classic. What more needs to be said. :-D

#1 - Shenmue (Dreamcast)

And my number one. An epic tale of epic proportions! It really sucked you into the game and made you feel a part of the game world. From waking up every morning and receiving your 200 yen from the housekeeper, to getting a job as a forklift truck driver down at the harbour. Simply amazing. Play it, if you haven't already (But you'll need a Dreamcast. ;-))
