Henchmen4Hire Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) UPDATE: Finished pictures added! This is a WIP, it needs legs and some way to add hands. Maybe change the head to something more mechanical (it's not supposed to have a human driver inside). I'm not married to the design so if you have suggestions let's hear 'em. -Shoulders pivot forward and back -Elbows bend -Arms can rotate -Waist and head can rotate -The backpack is removable, not planned but it's simple to remove heh -I don't mind leaving the hand area as is, I'd rather just attach weapons directly to the forearm than add hands anyway Edited December 11, 2011 by DrNightmare Quote
Rocketbilly Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 I really like it! the proportions are really good so far. One thing though is that I don't think the hand connection would work very well in real life. Glad to see you're still making your SP3 MOCs, too. When I get my computer sorted I'll be uploading my own SP3 MOCs too. I tried a mech for the Police, but gave up after it became far too blocky. Nice work! Quote
LEGOMAN132 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Very nice mech you have there. If I mind me asking what is the hand piece? Quote
Rocketbilly Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Very nice mech you have there. If I mind me asking what is the hand piece? I think that that is the hand piece that the large trolls used in the Castle sets from a few years back. Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) Oooooh I see now, the slope isn't deep enough for the pin. Oh well, I'll build different weapons for the forearms instead! I admit I'm not a big fan of mechs, but designing this thing makes me appreciate how much work and troubleshooting is involved when I see everyone else's. Yessss, post more SP3 MOCs! I'm still hoping we get a female SP3 torso through the collectible minifigs. Edit: Yeah, I think it's a troll hand. Only reason I haven't posted instructions for this is because I'm still working it out, I don't mind sharing instructions Edited December 11, 2011 by DrNightmare Quote

I have a large backlog of MOCs across a few themes I need to photgraph and upload when I can but wont be able to for a while. But when I can my SP3 MOCs will be the first to go up since it's my favourite theme. Yes, that would indeed be awesome and perhaps could be made into a minifig, you never know. Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) Alrighty, did all I'm going to do to this bot and I think it looks pretty good. It has basic joints but they're useful. -No hands, but I can attach all sorts of different weapons just by changing that black clip held by the 1x2 dark bley plate -Added shoulder/back mounted weapons. -This bot is fairly poseable as you can see. Legs tilt inward and out, knees bend a little, legs can move up/down. If I grind off that white stud behind the knee they'll be able to bend all the way heh. -I don't know how stable it is but I definitely want to brickbuild it! charlieboy Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 This is very impressive! I would much rather see it in actual bricks so I hope you go ahead and do that. Did you use the trans red minifig head under the helmet? Quote
The Mugbearer Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Woah, nice Mech. However, if I were making this machine, I'd made some parts differently. Like that: Always think how this model would look and work in real. Spinning plate will not keep your arms in exact pose you want them to be. That's why I suggest to use 2x2 plate with one stud in center. It will ensure successful posing for arms. I can't tell you want else I think you can fix to improve your model - I like to experiment with parts by myself, but I am pretty bad with constructive criticism. It's better to show redone version and compare it with original model. =) But this is what I think: 1) You need to find an alternative to Orge hands, but not in complete parts. 2) Legs are a bit flat and not very good with posing IMHO so you should think this over and also try to add feet. =) Anyway, the whole design of the model is awesome, especially torso and backpack! Keep up the good work! Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) Charlie: Yeah, it's a trans red head under the helmet, I don't know if those exist though Yesss, I used one of those single stud plates at the neck to put the head on. It would work great where you pointed out, good point. I just hope it's not a rare piece. I'm not using the ogre hands anymore, I'm just going to make many different attachments for the forearms, like a Swiss army knife haha. It would be nice if I could make useful hands though. I like the shape of the feet, but the mech needs support for running poses. If I make another mech, I'll see what others have done for ideas to make feet more poseable. Right now the robot has an 80's vibe I think haha Edit: Added a round 2x2 plate instead of the square :) The shoulders get wider by one plate but it still looks good, makes it look more masculine if anything. Thanks for the tip! Edited December 11, 2011 by DrNightmare Quote
Rocketbilly Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Nice to see it finished, you've rounded it out really well! Are you planning on building this as a real model? Quote
The Mugbearer Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 If you want to make this as real model, then it's quite another thing. =) However if you planning to improve it as virtual model, you can search for my own models to see how I solve problems with articulation points and overall design. =) Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 Nice to see it finished, you've rounded it out really well! Are you planning on building this as a real model? I reeeeaaalllly can't afford to buy LEGO, but I kinda do want to make this thing. Maybe I should start a donation pool haha Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 Flamethrower attachment :) Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 Kind of a standard gun attachment, fires physical projectiles: Quote

Henchmen4Hire Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) Alrighty, last pic. I've modified all the colors as needed (some colors here aren't available) and uploaded the wishlist to Bricklink, now lets see if I ever get some cash to make this real heh. The weapons can be attached to either hand just by flipping around a clip or two. Edited December 12, 2011 by DrNightmare Quote
