Xyver Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I thought I'd try and build something not to minifig scale. This is based on the Holden Ute Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Well, it's more model team than town forum stuff and which model is it ? The headlights have my head scratching, not a HQ is it ? Anyway it's not bad design 'Xyver' and keep singing.....Football, Meat Pies, Kangaroo's and Holden Cars ! Quote
bootz Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 That's one massive hood and front overhang. It gives the impression of front wheel drive and something like a v12 under the hood. Good attempt, but the proportions are a bit off. Quote
Xyver Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 LT - I'm not sure which model it is, I just did a google image search and that's what came up. It's a HSV Maloo ute and I'm guessing its the current one (I like them, but don't know the series names). The lights probably should be plates rather than round though. Bootz - I was just using the parts I had from the Cool Cruiser set, so with their curved sections and archs for the wheels it put my proportions off a bit. Its about 4-6 bricks too long for the width, most of it in the front end. That's also the difficulty I had doing to windscreen, I'm not happy with it but don't have the know-how to fix it up, was running short of yellow by this stage too. Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I feel your windscreen issue could be solved by using tiles instead of plates, plus mounting the wing mirrors lower too. The body work seems to lack that modern feel, I would if I was you look closely at the streamlining of this ute and try and follow it as best as possible in a way that Lego allows. Trust me, building even minifig scale ute's is very hard. Keep going 'Xyver' and Drive On ! Quote
Xyver Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Thank you for the feedback, that's what I post on here for. Due to the way the windscreen is built, and the angle pieces I used for the mirrors, they can't be attached lower, though I agree it would look better. I also don't have any more yellow tiles, all the ones I have are under the doors (seriously lacking in pieces I know) It doesn't look as square in the brick as it does in the pictures, obviously proof that my photography skills are seriously lacking, but it does require more rounded pieces than I have to use.
