HJR-Holland Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Hello folks, In 1997 Kenner came out with a smaller version of the T47 Airspeeder. Because the 'real' T-47 Airspeeder was rather pricey, KENNER decided to bring a smaller scaled, cheaper alternative on the merket. this became the 'EU Airspeeder', launched under the 'Power of the Force' label: For the geeks a film of the vehicle, which also explains the wing mechanisms: <param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_HivNMlmNg?version=3&hl=nl_NL&rel=0"> And a link to the 'original' with a lot of pictures Anyway, I made a LEGO version of this vehicle: The pop-up wings: The bottom side is also alike the 'original': For bigger pictures, see here Quote
Werlu Ulcur Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 VERY nice HJR ! Do you have any pics of the cockpit or with the cockpit opened? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Being a huge fan of the T-47, I love some of the shapes in this thing. The back portion of the wings does look a bit odd, though, with the wings not at the same angle as the front portion. Quote
Oky Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Nice work, HJR! Looks pretty accurate, although I gotta agree with what doc said about the angle of the front wings. Quote
M<0><0<DSWIM Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 This is a great idea and awesome build! I love how the wings fold like the "real" thing. Quote
Huntleyfx Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 That airspeeder was one of the first SW toys that I had, so I have some nostalgia for that build. Good job! Quote
CaptainBermuda Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I have that, and when I was little I had never noticed that it was different from the T47, but it was only a couple years ago that I noticed its difference. P.s. awesome Lego model of it Quote
Fallenangel Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Thought I’d finally get around to commenting on this unique MOC. I’m not familiar with this toy, but from the reference you’ve provided, your LEGO representation captures the feel of the original quite well. Folding wings are a plus. Some interesting shaping on this craft; the unusual shape reminds me a bit of the I-7 Howlrunner (which itself bears a resemblance to the Earth Directorate starfighter from Buck Rogers). A small suggestion; have you considered SNOTing 3L Technic beams to the backs of the repulsor drive units? They aren’t grilled like the 1x2 bricks that are there now, but I think they would represent the bits on the ship more accurately. Quote
gcanik Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Great build, I remember picking up this particular toy while I was in college. Nice to see it captured in LEGO. Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Excellent creation 'HJR', great detailing....looks very similar to the Kenner made model. Quote
