LEGO Guy Bri Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 In the past I saw a few other MOCs of cargo trucks with lift gates. So I decided I would like to at least have one, even if it didn't have the lift. After a few rebuilds, resulting from a weak chassis or length problems, I finished it's final design. The truck is actually assembled as a real one would be. It's cab and cargo box can be separated from it's complete, drivable chassis and steering column. I decided to also give it a lift gate and still have uphill ground clearance. Instead of keeping it completely white I gave it a bit of the only other color I had in that specific slope, used on it's quarter panel. Apart from the picture lighting quality, tell me what you think! Front Left View Lift Gate Retracted Cargo Space Lift Gate Down And Raised, and yes the lever is absolutely essential for proper functioning Comments and suggestions always welcome! Thanks for looking Quote
Rocketbilly Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I think that this has just the right amounts of detailing and functionality to pass for a proper LEGO set. I really like how you've gotten the brown tiles inside the truck, and the lift gate is very well done - simple yet effective. I'm not as keen on the colour scheme though, I think there are far too many white city vehicles out there though of course, they're probably where you got your pieces from! either way, I think the lime stripe adds a nice break in the colouration. Very nice. Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Excellent truck 'LGG', that's alot of old school 90's 3 wide and 6 wide 1x5 bricks eh ? I also like the floor of the van tiled - items can slide in and out easier ! Brick On Truck On 'LGG' ! Quote
dr_spock Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Nice truck. Given the big engine hood in the front, it looks like it could handle another axle in the back for heavy loads. Quote
L@go Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I quite like this - the overall accent is very nice, and the lime accents work very well. I'm not too keen on those grille slopes in the front, but that's a matter of personal taste. What I think would make it better, though, is actually an old-fashioned 2x6x2 windscreen instead of 3x6x2 - the way it is now there's just too little space between the mirrors and the rear wall of the cab. The lift solution is clever! I wish Lego would make some 1x3x5 doors though, those would look better - I have the same problem on a couple of my vehicles. Quote
ER0L Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Great MOC! The overall shape is awesome, the color combination works very well in my eyes - it brightens the rather massive appearance of a truck like this. I also like the technical features very much. Will there be some stickers? As a suggestion, you might change the two 1 x 1 cheese slopes at the rearview mirrors into one 1 x 2. Quote
HighFlyer Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Great van, I love the use of lime green here. Could I see a photo of the front please? Quote

Very nice. Thank you Rocketbilly! Unfortunately for me, you're right about the white pieces. Luckily lime was the only other color I had for the fender slopes Excellent truck 'LGG', that's alot of old school 90's 3 wide and 6 wide 1x5 bricks eh ? I do, indeed, have a small surplus of those wall pieces Nice truck. Given the big engine hood in the front, it looks like it could handle another axle in the back for heavy loads. Thank you 'dr_spock'. Indeed it could handle, another axel, unfortunately I ran out for the moment. Luckily she has a strong back bone. I've thought about giving it a tandem axel but, as I looked around, I noticed they make up the majority of my trucks. This one is a nice change for my collection I quite like this - the overall accent is very nice, and the lime accents work very well. I, too, am not as fond with the grill either but, using the flat grill tile looked less attractive, IMO. I will be replacing the windshield when the 2x6x2's arrive Great MOC! In a perfect world there would definitely be stickers but, until I finally get the necessary supplies, to create them, I'm afraid it'll have to stay bare. Hopefully sometime soon though Great van, I love the use of lime green here. Could I see a photo of the front please? Thank you 'HighFlyer'! I will have a few more pics uploaded tomorrow, providing a shot of the front Many thanks to everyone who viewed and to those who provided comments and suggestions! Quote
L@go Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 I will be replacing the windshield when the 2x6x2's arrive. Obviously, you'll need to extend the roof of the cab by one stud. But I think it'll look much better that way :) Quote

So here is the newly modified cab! 'HighFlyer' here is a shot of the front for ya For 'L@go' and 'ER0L', here is a side view of the new windshield and 1x2 tile for the mirrors. At least I hope thats what you meant by 1x2... or was it a 1x2 cheeser? As I had mentioned above, I had finalized this truck build by separating the chassis from the body. Once I had the overall length of the truck established, I started pulling it apart to redesign the chassis so it could be a complete subassembly. Here they are apart: Chassis Body And the marriage of the two main assemblies: Thanks for your suggestions! Hope I got them right. More photos can be seen in here or in my sig for the full collection of MOCs and stuff. Enjoy Quote
L@go Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I suspect he was thinking about an 1x2 cheese slope, yes. But I think it does look better now. And I like the front much better now that I see it from that angle - the grille slopes don't stand out so much from the front. It's a very nice truck! Quote
