The_Chosen_1 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I thought that the black R2 unit also came in the discontinued star destroyer or was that a different one? Yes, I believe that particular astromech came in both sets. It's also in the new Advent Calendar. Quote
Fallenangel Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Yes, I believe that particular astromech came in both sets. It's also in the new Advent Calendar. Actually, the droid from 6211 has a different dome print. Quote
Cwertle Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I don't have it. I very much want it, but doubt I'll be able to afford it before it's discontinued, alas. Same here Quote
clcwong Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 I am from the US, not sure but I thought clawing was in the UK (since he's looking for the best PAB in the UK). I didn't know that about the PAB boxes. Maybe I should sell them to defray the costs of a 10188. And I didn't get any ArF troopers (now or previously). I didn't even know the stores had them. In UK...u r right =] sadly...no ARF troopers as well... For a display piece it's amazing...it includes pretty much all the Death Star scenes while still keeping its shape. It's the most commented on set I own. Don't hate it because of its price, it's worth every penny. Seems a nice stand!~ Do you need anything to protect it from dust? It really worth it....i think~ finally got it this time after these few years Quote
Concept Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 I had the original Death Star II and did not really like this new set but after I spent some time looking at the finer detail and all the scene's which are played out I changed my mind (Lego collectors prerogative). Mine is still in its box until I move some time later next year. At that time I will rebuild alot of my larger sets to put on display (yes I am excited about this lol). Quote
Brinstar Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 As much as I'd like to own it I simply cannot justify spending that much on a single set. Even if I had the finances I think I would prefer to own the UCS Executor or the UCS Shuttle. Quote

I have the Shuttle from Imperial Inspection and that is more than adequate. The shuttle is so lack luster. It is just big. But the scenes of the DS is what really makes me love it. Quote

But the scenes of the DS is what really makes me love it. #1: The shuttle is 1:1 scale with the minifigures, so of course it's big. #2: Not seeing how you can call the UCS shuttle "lackluster" when comparing it to the horrible-looking System shuttle. Yeah it's expensive, but you can't knock it for that. You get what you pay for with these UCS sets in terms of accuracy and scale. Quote

I had the little system scale shuttle, but it just doesn't compare with the UCS version which is just absolutely beautiful, not to mention a much more satisfying building experience. One of my favourite Star Wars ships and easily one of my most favourite sets ever. Quote
Lobot Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I’ve debated getting this a couple of times; it’s good value for money & has lots of minifigures but it leaves me somehow underwhelmed which is strange for a large SW set! I’d much prefer to get the Death Star II Really? I refuse to get the UCS shuttle. I have the Shuttle from Imperial Inspection and that is more than adequate. The shuttle is so lack luster. The only downsides to me are i) the lack of a boarding ramp ii) the difficulty of dis-assembling it & iii) the fact that it's light cream rather than white! Quote
North Lego Star Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Ya I own it, I bought in may I love it from the little lights to the tractor beam Quote
Mofo Jones Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I don't have 10188 yet, but oh yes, it will be mine.* *at some point in the future, when I can rationalize it. Quote
Ackbar Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 This is an interesting topic. Of the later bigger SW-sets, the UCS Super Star Destroyer, Tantive IV and the UCS Lambda Shuttle, were must-buys for me. But I’ve always hesitated about the Death Star. First, I prefer the sets to be as movie accurate as possible. I’m also an adult collector so I use my LEGO for display, playsets don’t interest me as much. Therefore I always been more into space ships and minifigs rather than playsets. The Death Star mixes from Episode IV and IV and is essentially a playset. And a really expensive one. But I must admit it can look great as display (as shown in this topic) and it also holds some great minifigs and scenes. But as I said, I always hesitated about this. Was very close buying it a couple of times, going through an order process just to close down before hitting that “Submit order”-button. Since I had so many opportunities buying it, yet have not, I have come to peace with that this set is not for me. Quote
MaceWindu Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Yes, I have 10188 in my collection! Two moths I enjoy it, but than I understand how it is difficult to clean it... I can only wash it! Quote

C-3PO Chrome Gold Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 (edited) Lego star wars fan , must have it ! and I have one, but still not open Edited December 6, 2011 by C-3PO Chrome Gold Quote
wokajablocka Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Just checked out Amazon.fr where they where $350 euro or so, now they are $899 euro . I should have got one when they where half the price. I think its going to tale a long time to find one now at a resonable price. If anyone sees it for a resonable price please post or PM me. Quote
Flash Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 US amazon.com doesn't have it anymore, only through 3rd party for $499 (used to be $398) shop.lego.com has it backordered. Is this the end of the run for them? Mine's being delivered today thanks to the Target sale last week :) Quote
b4p Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 (edited) Is this the end of the run for them? i would say no. this probably just means it is still a VERY popular item (near christmas), so likely this would mean there will be another year of it. i see this as a good sign; like they did not expect the demand. i wouldnt expect lego to discontinue a set before christmas, right? They have discontinued a bunch of sets before this christmas, in fact they have been marking lots of items as sold out, and then in some cases setting the status back to available, so I'm fairly certain that if the item is marked as backordered it will be back in stock. The fact that this set is selling so well is great for us as collectors, as it means Lego will release other big sets in the future. I truly think the Death Star is an awesome set, it's a surprisingly interesting build. I'm sure it will be remembered as one of Lego's greatest sets in the future. Quote

I doubt the Death Star will get discontinued until a similar set is built (Cloud City?) to replace it. The Death Star doesn't compete with the UCS sets in its price range so there's no reason to discontinue it. Quote
AFOL SF Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Sometime last summer, a Lego store employee I frequent mentioned that this set is close to being discontinued. How true can this be, I don't know and have no confirmation. Nevertheless, I am working on getting a 2nd one, just in case. A friend of a friend offered to sell it for US$200. Quote
AngryChair Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I was under the impression that this was going to be discontinued at the end of the year. I almost came close to buying it a couple of months ago but on further looking at it I just couldn't justify the price in relation to the overal size of it. It's not a massive set is it.? Also I don't think there's enough exclusivity in relation to mini figs anymore. I'll be giving it a miss but really hope there's an ultimate Jabba's Palace or Cloud City Quote
aoxoa Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) Just got my second. I was told it would likely be discontinued after x-mas at the Lego store, so I swooped it up on black Friday. Sold previous one and immediately regretted it. A must have set!!! Various cubicals are great for displaying various scenes and its shape allows for numerous points of view on your shelf. Constant changes of layout reminds me of play sets as a kids. +++ As for the shuttle: If you've always loved this ship, like I have, It cannot be ignored. Highest quality build.
