clcwong Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Just bought it thou still in box. Thanks to Brick Friday! It was an good deal in UK, giving me 4 Christmas Set 2 & 4 PAB small box (still not sure where in UK has the most large PAB wall? London?) How do you find this set, and how do you keep this huge ball? =] Did anyone get some fine glass/plastic box for it? And what do you like most about this set? Quote
Werlu Ulcur Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 With the size of that thing I really doubt I'll ever buy it. Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I don't have it. I very much want it, but doubt I'll be able to afford it before it's discontinued, alas. I do intend to get it if circumstances permit, though. Quote
Tocko Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) I recently bought two from amazon.es (303€ each). I plan to keep one and sell the other one to support my Lego addiction :) Edited November 29, 2011 by Tocko Quote
ISDAvenger Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I have two Death Stars, one that is one display in my Lego room and the other I use for parts. I found a new in box one for $250 on Craigslist, but I decided against getting a third one. The one I have on display has its own little table that it sits on. I think it is a awesome set and a must have for collectors. Quote
AndyC Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I think I may be one of the few people who doesn't like it and doesn't want it. Even after having seen it 'in the flesh' I am largely unimpressed. Quote

Even after having seen it 'in the flesh' I am largely unimpressed. Actually I'm with AndyC. But I have every other UCS set from the OT so far, so this one is hard not to pick up for completeness sake. Then again $400 is pretty powerful disincentive. If I can get one much cheaper I'll probably pick it up if only because my kids would love it. Quote

I bought 10221 and 10210, but only got 1x since it was all on one transaction (but I got a 20% off peel-off, so no worries). I did get 4x PAB boxes though. Quote
Solscud007 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 My wife bought it for me last year. I was worried it would be sold out soon. At least that was the general consensus. It took us 2 days to build it. She loves to mix up the parts and find them for me. But the problem is that its faster to build than find the pieces. My favorite part is the hanger and the cute mini Tie Advanced. Quote

The store manager was really nice, the staff didn't know how many I could get, then she asked the store manager to come out and gave me these It will be in the box for quite a long time until I sort out how to sort it XD and I need some space as well Sandro: nice, you got 20% off from the peal-off, I only got 10% off >< yea..tey say the max was 4, or not it would be 5 PAB box. Still thinking where should I go in UK for the PAB wall My wife bought it for me last year. I was worried it would be sold out soon. At least that was the general consensus. Hmm before the Advent Calendar, it was the black R2 unit. and Grand Moff Tarkin came with Star Destroyer. But that is discontinued obviously. Quote
Brickmamba Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Grats on the purchase this set will be one if the all time classics, hopefully I can pick one up before it is discontinued and prices sky rocket Quote
mordatre Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I bought one to sell later on. My wife said I should build it instead so now it decorates our office at home. Great set and the kids love it. Took me 5 months of building on and off (I tried to get the most joy out of building it because I won´t build it again ). The black protocol droid is exclusive to this set. Quote
Huntleyfx Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I am definitely considering it, but I am not overly sure due to the size. Does anyone have decent measurements of the set in question? Quote

I don't know what changed my mind , but all of a sudden i really liked it..I think because all of the different scenes in it...It kind of tells the SW story.....So, i bought it and didn't build it yet...I'm saving it for a winter project.. Nightshroud99 Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 I got mine for free, it's an amazing set but I don't think I'll be keeping it assembled. It's just too big. Quote

Would been nice to get x4 xmas sets as these fetch fair bit on Ebay and prob selling x4 would almost cover the cost of 10195 which i just purchased. Did you also get the free Arf Trooper? Quote

I am from the US, not sure but I thought clawing was in the UK (since he's looking for the best PAB in the UK). I didn't know that about the PAB boxes. Maybe I should sell them to defray the costs of a 10188. And I didn't get any ArF troopers (now or previously). I didn't even know the stores had them. Quote

I too have seen it in person, not overly impressed myself. Of course the price, if I had that amount in a Lego store, there's more sets I want more than that. Quote

Even after having seen it 'in the flesh' I am largely unimpressed. I haven't seen it in the flesh yet but from the pictures I've never been massively impressed. I did end up buying one however . Largely because of some of the comments in the review here on EB and also because I knew that once it got deleted I'd regret not buying it. And remember... It's always better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done . Quote

It's always better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done . Very wise words! Just look at the UCS Falcon pricing thread for the amount of people trying to buy parts and paying crazy prices for sets. Also worth thinking about is that this set is only the price of 2 RRP 7965 Falcons (in UK) with 4X as many parts and 4X as many figs. I was very lucky with my Death Star. I was one of the lucky few who ordered It when it was first released in the UK with a price point of £200 . I think that only lasted a week before the price went up to todays price! Quote
StoutFiles Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 For a display piece it's amazing...it includes pretty much all the Death Star scenes while still keeping its shape. It's the most commented on set I own. Don't hate it because of its price, it's worth every penny. Quote
AndyC Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 It's the most commented on set I own. Don't hate it because of its price, it's worth every penny. The price never bothered me (I've got plenty of the big sets), I just find the whole thing a bit 'meh'. I guess it's because I've never been entirely enamoured with playsets, if I buy one it's usually going to become a parts pack pretty sharpish. I much prefer Death Star II as a model, even if it's a little flawed in places. Quote
legobodgers Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I thought that the black R2 unit also came in the discontinued star destroyer or was that a different one? Quote
