Kisvakond Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Anybody have a good idea on how to make a Jacob's bogie? Yes, one of my LUG-mate kvp has a good solution for this, so you can build one, this way for example (See the yellow-black coloured solutions): http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=437361 It was tested in his SIEMENS Desiro during several exhibition: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=478371 Quote
Dan-147 Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Jason Allemann from ParLUGment has a really cool design he used for his O-Train back in 2005. It has the added advantage that it is close-coupling and can handle curves very well. He has a lot of pictures of the O-Train and particularly the Jacob's bogies on his site: True Dimensions Hope this helps. Dan-147 Quote

Dan-147 Very clever solution which gives amazing natural spacing between the coaches! Quote
cimddwc Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 This is my solution: jbogies by cimddwc, on Flickr First version on the left, but (a) the rim at the bottom of the pin plates interfered with the cars lying flat, and (b) I wanted it to be as low as possible, so the version on the right is the one I used. The pins simply go into Technic plates that are part of the train's floor. (I didn't use the train base plates which were too short anyway.) Black paper (not as neatly folded as it should be) covers the passages – some day I'll make something nicer looking... curve2 by cimddwc, on Flickr Quote
Bricktrix Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 This looks very similar to the Eurostar bogies, heres a link to the ones I did a while back: Quote
Snapshot Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) Anybody have a good idea on how to make a Jacob's bogie? Im trying to make one for my 7938 rebuild. I use this design with my 7938 variants: It's really a bit long for the 24-stud baseplates but it's the shortest that will fit and give enough clearance between carriages in the curves. LDD file available on request..... Edited November 28, 2011 by Snapshot Quote
Spike the train builder Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 Thanks for all the help, Ive Been able to create one with features from all your suggestions. I might post pictures of the finished product. Quote
Loggii Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Hey Snapshot, does that design work with the baseplates that the Maersk train rolling stock uses? Quote
Snapshot Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) Hey Snapshot, does that design work with the baseplates that the Maersk train rolling stock uses? It certainly does although it's a bit longer than really necessary as it was intended for use with carriages. I have a another design that might look better as it's two studs shorter between the pivots. I'm sure I'd actually built two but I can't find them at the moment. <later> Just found the brick version and tested it - it's a stud too short. So here's what I hope will be the replacement. LDD only at the moment; will build it in brick later today. Edited December 12, 2011 by Snapshot Quote

I'm trying reduce the amount of wheels on the container cars so I can have some spare parts to build extra rolling stock, tried building one myself but it didn't work out too well after a few tries lol.
