Jason Allemann from ParLUGment has a really cool design he used for his O-Train back in 2005.

It has the added advantage that it is close-coupling and can handle curves very well. He has a lot of pictures of the O-Train and particularly the Jacob's bogies on his site: True Dimensions

Hope this helps.

Very clever solution which gives amazing natural spacing between the coaches!

This is my solution:

First version on the left, but (a) the rim at the bottom of the pin plates interfered with the cars lying flat, and (b) I wanted it to be as low as possible, so the version on the right is the one I used.

The pins simply go into Technic plates that are part of the train's floor. (I didn't use the train base plates which were too short anyway.)

Black paper (not as neatly folded as it should be) covers the passages – some day I'll make something nicer looking...

Anybody have a good idea on how to make a Jacob's bogie? Im trying to make one for my 7938 rebuild.

I use this design with my 7938 variants:

It's really a bit long for the 24-stud baseplates but it's the shortest that will fit and give enough clearance between carriages in the curves. LDD file available on request.....

Hey Snapshot, does that design work with the baseplates that the Maersk train rolling stock uses?

It certainly does although it's a bit longer than really necessary as it was intended for use with carriages. I have a another design that might look better as it's two studs shorter between the pivots. I'm sure I'd actually built two but I can't find them at the moment.

<later> Just found the brick version and tested it - it's a stud too short. So here's what I hope will be the replacement. LDD only at the moment; will build it in brick later today.

Ahhh, it looks great, would love to see the instructions if possible. I'm trying reduce the amount of wheels on the container cars so I can have some spare parts to build extra rolling stock, tried building one myself but it didn't work out too well after a few tries lol.

Email me and I'll send you the LDD file.
