Bluto sees it best to go and hide until his turn comes up next, making him impervious to all damage in the meanwhile. Two enemies remain, and the battle still continues. If the party loses this battle, they will not fail the quest since the party is split up, but they will lose all the gold that Thothwick and Thormanil have. ~*~*~*~*~ Mr. Marmaduc, I presume? A pleasure to meet you. We come from the island of Uland, and we're here to take a look at the unicorns. "Ah, visitors from the Free Islands! How splendid! Unicorns, you say? They are a sight to behold, indeed. Right this way!" Marmaduc brings the party to a pen where a solitary unicorn stands apathetically. "Unicorns are wondrous beings. They look fragile but are fierce when angered. They never harm children, though, for they sense innocense. What is it that interests you in these noble creatures?" "I see you have nice place here, but I must ask why do you have a sentient being locked up like an animal?" "Sentient? I am afraid I do not know what you are talking about, milady."
Professor Flitwick Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) "Mr. Nahai, I think it might be best for you to take a potion, whilst I attack Saracen Sabredancer B, from the front row!" Edited December 7, 2011 by Professor Flitwick

It figures a necromancer would only work during the dark hours. What will the trio do now?

What will the trio do now? "Well, Mr. Nahai, after you have divided up the loot, shall we move onto the next location, or meet up with our companions in the Menagerie? I personally feel we should try to cove as much ground as possible, and thus move on to the Almagesta's palace."
Sandy Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 ~*~*~*~*~ I hear they have magical powers. How much do you know about that? "Indeed, the horn of a unicorn contains healing powers beyond the wildest imagination of any cleric. Of course, much of that power is lost when the horn is brutally cut from the animal's forehead. Removing the horn also unavoidedly kills the beast."

He turns to Bluto, "You've got a knack for brawlin', Bluto! Fought damn well." He holds up the sabre "Think you'd be able to brandish one of these badboys in combat, or is it a bit too unwieldy for you yet?" If Bluto is capable of using the sabre, I'll loan it to him for the duration of the quest. "Visiting the Almagesta's seems as good a choice as any, right now. We'll have to remember to come back here at night."

Being a Ranger, I pains me to hear that some would destroy these beautiful creatures for their own gain, but I suppose that's inevitable. Out of curiosity, how rare are unicorns and how much does it usually cost to obtain one?

If Bluto is capable of using the sabre, I'll loan it to him for the duration of the quest. OoC: Like the description says, a dream sailor is only capable of using harpoons and anchors as weapons. "Gee thanks, Mr. Nihai!" the boy exclaims as he excitedly takes the sabre from the barbarian. Alas, it is too heavy for Bluto to carry, and coming from a family of mages he has not even been taught how to fence. Shrugging his shoulders, Thormanil takes the sword back. Maybe he can offer it to some other hero when they get back to Eubric. Party: Thormanil Nihai (played by swils) *Party Leader* Level 11½ Barbarian Power: 18 Health: 18/18 Gold: 60 Inventory: Thundering Shadeaux Axes (WP:6, lightning-elemental), Tongue on a Stick (WP:1, Miss>Aim), Dull Greataxe (WP:3), Sabre (WP:8, unequippable), Pickaxe Thothwick (played by Professor Flitwick) Level 5 Rogue Power: 13 (10 for ranged attacks) Health: 11/11 Gold: 126 Inventory: Sabre (WP:8), Whip Chain (WP:6), Shuriken (WP:5, ranged), Potion, Remedy Venom, 2 Fire Bombs, Bedroll Bluto Ziegfried (NPC) Level 6 Dream Sailor Power: 9 Health: 6/6 Ether: 6/6 Gold: 0 Inventory: Harpoon (WP:3, ranged), Aquamarine (Water) "Visiting the Almagesta's seems as good a choice as any, right now. When they ask to enter the queen's garden, the guards act insulted and drive them away. They then remember what they heard at the harbour. The only way into the garden is to sneak over the wall, but it is highly risky as the Almagesta's guards would surely lynch them if they got caught. ~*~*~*~*~ I see. Being a Ranger, I pains me to hear that some would destroy these beautiful creatures for their own gain, but I suppose that's inevitable. Out of curiosity, how rare are unicorns and how much does it usually cost to obtain one? "Ah, you are here to make business! Why did not you say so immediately? I can offer you this miraculous creature for the lowly price of 500 gold. I have plenty of unicorns in my stables, you see." "Trading a life for a life doesn't seem right. What would an Undead Unicorn be? Have you heard of something like that?" "Undead unicorn?! I do not know anything of that, but you might want to turn to Nemeshtar, the local necromancer."
Brickdoctor Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 "Ah, you are here to make business! Why did not you say so immediately? I can offer you this miraculous creature for the lowly price of 500 gold. I have plenty of unicorns in my stables, you see." No, unfortunately not. We have neither the resources nor the need to purchase a normal unicorn. I was just curious. Like my comrade says, we've been assigned the task of locating an undead unicorn.

"Ah ok, well thanks for the tip. Now about the creature you call "gorilla", in the cage. You know, the one you are working on taming. Are you sure he is a beast? We have a friend who looks very similar but is indeed not a beast and is as intelligent as you or I. "

Are you sure he is a beast? We have a friend who looks very similar but is indeed not a beast and is as intelligent as you or I. " "Haha, that is certainly a very strange coincidence. I do not wish to insult, but your friend must not be much of a looker if he looks like a gorilla... Nevertheless, that fine specimen I caught myself deep in the Mistland jungles. It put up a real fight, but even the mighty king of the jungle can only succumb to Marmaduc the Master Hunter. Hence, I call him Prince Kong, since it is I who became king after that encounter!" As Marmaduc bathed in his own superiority, the captured Metasimian rattled the cage in fury. "Of course, everything comes with a price. That fine specimen is yours for just 1000 gold. If you add 300 to that, you can have the unicorn as well. No one has ever called Marmaduc unreasonable, you see."
Professor Flitwick Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 "Well, whatta ya say, Thothy? Or maybe meet back up with Cinna and Bartholomew, see how they're doing, and decide where to go from there?" "Well, Mr. Nihai, I dare say we'd have enough time at night to collect the exotic flora, and visit the Necromancer. We should go to the menagerie, and see how Ms. Cinna and Mr. Docken are doing."
Sandy Posted December 10, 2011 Author Posted December 10, 2011 Thothwick, Thormanil and Bluto decide to rejoin Bartholomew and Cinna at Marmaduc's Menagerie. There they encounter their companions talking to a man in a turban. The man's jaw drops as he sees Thothwick. "Is this the friend you were talking about? By the gods, he really does look like a gorilla!" What will the party do now?
swils Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 (edited) Taking a moment to be caught up on the events at the Menagerie so far, Thormanil addresses Marmaduc: "Aye, this here's Thothwick. Might look a bit primal, but he's quite the gent. Just don't try to put chains on him, too--I'd hate to have to start any trouble! Heh heh." Facing Thothwick, "Thothy, what's the chance you could communicate with the metasimian in the cage, perhaps get him to follow directions, display some advanced capabilities? If he's from a different tribe (or what ever social structure you all fancy), Bartholomew might be able to act as a translator..." And finally, to Cinna and Bartholomew "And, you two mentioned that unicorns are more trusting of youth, something about their innocence... Think there's any way we can use Bluto, here, to help us out in that regard? Edited December 10, 2011 by swils
Brickdoctor Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 That reminds me, I'd like to try to talk to the unicorn.

If he's from a different tribe (or what ever social structure you all fancy), Bartholomew might be able to act as a translator..." Thothwick walks up to the cage, and speaks to the trapped metasimian in two different languages. One, human English, the second, the langue of the Metasimian. "My dear kinsmen, what happened to you to end in such a predicament." <"My dear kinsmen, what happened to you to end in such a predicament.">
Sandy Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 That reminds me, I'd like to try to talk to the unicorn. The unicorn eyes Bartholomew suspiciously. "Neigh! <What do you want? Have I not suffered enough?>" <"My dear kinsmen, what happened to you to end in such a predicament."> "<Finally, someone who can understand me! I have been trapped in this cage with these filthy monkeys for a month already! I am Hoptet, a druid of the Manaki tribe. I was collecting herbs in the forest one day when these hairless men came and captured me. Please, help me out! I cannot bear this captivity any longer!>"
Brickdoctor Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 "Neigh! <What do you want? Have I not suffered enough?>" <Indeed, I do not doubt that there are few things which can cause more suffering than to be kept in a pen for the public to stare at. I'm a hero from Heroica on the Island of Uland, in the Free Islands. I've been assigned the painful task of locating the horn of an undead unicorn. Would you happen to know anything about those?>
Professor Flitwick Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 "Ah, progress! Lets hope I can keep remembering my home tongue well." "<Greetings friend, I am Thothwick, from the Mistlands just like you. You are in the town of Salmanda, and the you were captured by Humans, to be a trophy in this menagerie. Not all humans are barbaric, like the ones in my party, who would likely help me rescue you. All we need to know is what kind of security does the menagerie have at night?" "Also, if you don't mind me asking, what were these herbs you were collecting? If they are the herbs we're looking for, you could gift us them to show us your gratitude."> "Now then, Mrs. Cinna, Mr. Nahai, Mr. Docken, Master Ziegfried, I have a plan. Depending on the security, we can come here at night to release both the unicorn (with the help of young Master Ziegried and Mr. Docken), and Hopet here, and he just might have the flower we're looking for. We can lead the unicorn across to the Necromancer, who might just know how to turn him undead."
