What's peoples taughts on this set? I'm starting to collect older pneumatic sets misb of course and this came to mind!iv already got a new 8455 and just ordered a new 8459 too,I also have a mint 8868 :)

So how does 8436 compare to other pneumatic sets?

What other old pneumatics sets are good?

Honestly, take away the pneumatics and this truck is probably one of the worst flagships ever!

Haha ya i remember even as a child i was slightly disappointed. it is a cool set, but it is certainly not as complex as other flagships. I think the problem was that the truck only had 3 different attachments (or maybe two?), so there was not to high of a rebuild-ability.

the truck is basicly going to be like a air tech claw rig 2.0

Actually, I'd say it is not much like 8868 at all except that it is a truck with a crane. 8436 is a decent looking set in appearance. the functions of the truck itself are minimal: tilting cab, engine, diff. All of the pneumatic functions are self contained in the removable crane. There is no compressor. Rotation of the crane is not pneumatic, and neither is telescoping. Pneumatic functions only unfold the crane. There is no alternate model for the truck, but the crane can be build into multiple accessories including a tow truck lift.

You can see some feature comparisons here. As you can see below, the truck scale is quite large.

And to think that I just feverishly clicked that link all in the hopes of seeing if 1996 was posted.

Oh the pain.

Thanks guys, is there any other good pneumatics sets over the years apart from the ones I already postage which I have!also was there many pneumatic sets that came in the cool box with display tray like 8459 and 8868?

I see that you have 8455, 8868 and 8459, so you started correctly with best sets (8455 is THE pneumatic set, 8868 has compressor and 8459 air tank).

If you are seeking primarly pneumatic sets then 8436 is indeed you best choice, but otherwise I would recommend two really nice sets: 8421 and 8285. Both have pneumatics (not as many as above sets, but enough), nice mchanical transmissions and 8421 even has 9v motor (which is optional in 8285).

After that you can get 8436 and 8462 and that's it for pneumatics. (there is 8851 and 8862, but first is hard to get and not so interesting and second one is too similar to 8455, at least the back part).

I also have this one:

I found this one better because of the electric functions. :sweet:

Hi!

I think that's too much money for this sets...

You can get a almost new 8421 for ~100-150€ on e**y.

8436 go's out there for round about 50-100€.

Most of them come with original box.

I taught 299 for 8421 wasn't bad, these are also new misb sets,I don't buy second hand sets.

This is what new 8421 are costing on eBay!

That is crazy!

But what is the problem with a 2nd hand set that was only build up one time and then stands on shelf?

Would you let the new sets sealed and store for your grandson? ;-)

Some things i only buy new too, but pay more than the double retail price for a lego set, if i can have a almost new for the half? Hmm... that only makes sense if you want to let them sealed and never build it up like an financial investment...

Just my opinion...

No I do build them but keep all boxes too,I just like new stuff, for instance I ordered a new 8459 from 1997 but I could have ordered the newer version from 2001 8439 but is was only 10 euro cheaper so I went with the original for the better older type box,if there is only 50-80 euro in the difference I prefer new :)

I can't figure out why 8421 is so expensive cause it's not that old and is it really that good?

You may not have realised it, but we are now into what is called "The Silly Season" Some people in their utter sheer desperation will pay crazy money for a MISB set, or even for a good set, built once. I generally buy news sets earlier in special offers, or wait until Jan/Feb when the demand for used sets is lower and prices are more realistic.

I think so too.

The prices are too high at this time.

I want to buy a 8258 for christmas and prefer the new one from amazon, because the prices for a used one are as much as the new one costs.

Maybe the prices will fall in new year, but the 8258 is out of production and i fear that the prices could reach the level of the 8421, so i will buy one this year.

Or do you think the price of the 8258 will stay stable the next months? :sceptic:

To stay on topic: i think 300,- is okay for both new.

Brick link prices don't go up this time of year there always the same! I'd say 8258 will get more expensive in the next few months,I got 8258 this time last year in the shop they had the last few left and people told me to get it,I think I payed €149 for it,that set must be gone by now as it was 2009 set.just get it off the Lego.com shop.

On topic I'm trying to get 8436 and 8421 for 350€.
